You misread what I said: I acknowledged that police are NOT everywhere. It seems unusual to me that a police officer advocates this. Is this a common attitude?
Yeah pretty much. If I could make all guns in this world disappear I would! But it ain’t happening! Most of us got in this job to protect, but we are not superman, we can’t be everywhere at once, and not everyone can afford their personal body guard. So then let people who are sane law abiding citizens carry to protect themselves. Who am I to take that right away? A lot can happen in two minutes!

Exactly. Now kids won’t need to out in public to get shot for wearing hoodies or playing loud music…your underwear’s showing and you refuse to pull it up? Look out…
And these are the “good” people with guns.

What can possibly go wrong?

Abortions account for only one or two deaths…at a time. So by your reasoning, I can ignore the aggregate impact of all these killings and focus only on “mass killings”. Wow, that makes the whole problem go away!

Hmmm. :hmmm: I don’t think so.

Statistics, Guns, and Wishful Thinking
Daily Kos?

:rotfl:

I’m sure it’s about as balance as the Mother Jones in depth analysis.

You should see the study by William Landes and John Lott.

Ther are numerous examples of an armed citizen stopping a (potential) mass shooting. Clackamas being the most recent.

On the same day that 20 children were killed at Sandy Hook by a gun, there were over 2,000 children killed by abortion.

Yet, no calls from our President to ban abortion.

Seems that the President is more interested in banning guns than saving the lives of children.

It’s your problem if you didn’t understand.
I don’t understand your way of thinking. You advocate to eliminate guns, and argue that on life saved is a life saved, but yet you don’t argue to eliminating knives, swords, ingredients to makes bombs because? As you said a life saved is a life saved.

Since now seems to be a discussion about gun control, I have a question.

I served in the Marine Corps, have been a hunter, and own guns. So I am not in the anti gun camp. However, I can not wrap my head around the idea that there is any valid reason for an individual to own an assault weapon.

Outside of your constitutional right to own one. What useful purpose does owning an assault rifle serve? The only thing I can think of is self defense if being attacked by someone else with an assault weapon.

How many people are killed by bombs and how often? How many people can be killed by certain types of guns at a time? How many people can be killed by knives and swords at a goal?

And does the number matter or not?

You can’t have a mass shooting unless a mass of people were shot. So ergo, there has never been a mass shooting stopped by anyone. How do you argue with that logic?

In July there were 7 theatres in Colarado showing The Dark Knight Rises. Only 1 of those 7 had a ban on concealed permit handguns and guess which of those 7 James Holmes targetted? Theatre with the ban on concealed permit weapons which was not the biggest theatre in Colorado or the closest to where he lived

Gun free zones are attracting mass killers because they know they will not be able to be repelled and they will be to create carnage. Portland Oregon shooting, Sikh temple Wisconsin shooting, Columbine High School shooting, Virginia Tech shooting, Aurora Colorado shooting and the Newton Connecticut shooting all took place in areas where concealed permit weapon handguns are banned
Maybe most people just don’t carry guns, regardless of the laws. 🤷

Maybe but if you take away all the bullets, they wouldn’t kill anyone.
You want to guns to be banned? How would nearly 300 million guns be rounded up? Even if you got rid of all guns how would that stop illegal guns from entering the US?

If you banned cars and knifes many people would be saved because there would not be car crashes and knife attacks

So let 3/4 of the states ratify an amendment, which will contain two provisions:

(1) that all guns and ammunition be confiscated;
(2) that all abortions be banned.

Balanced and can be done without Congress.

Guess what? If you removed guns then bombs would be the next big issue. I am sure bombs can kill more people in an instant then a lone gun man.
