I would ask to consider what happened to Nebuchadnezzar when the prophet Daniel said he must be merciful to the poor and Nebuchadnezzar refused.

Not related to my question, but I must say that is the absolute best biblical reference I have seen in relation to the government and the poor. Excellent job.

Putting forth your hand to the poor and needy is quite different than forcing someone else to put their hand forth. Why don’t you address your accusations that I’m a racist though, I’d be grateful to hear your interpretation of what’s in my heart.

Using a central government as a charity organization is not a wise idea.

I feel your pain. I thought I might be the only one that saw the racist element. I don’t think that this is the type of evangelizing Christ had in mind.

If we lived in an agrarian culture, community support for the poor, the disabled, the elderly and the sick would be the norm for people of Christian faith, but we do not.

Let me give you a personal example. I took in a developmentally disabled adult who was not related to me because he had no family willing to do so. I could only emotionally and physically endure it for two years. The man is now in a group home. It costs about $200/day for each person. Do you think the church or anyone else is willing to take care of all these people in group homes, nursing homes, half-way houses and re-hab centers across the U.S.?

As far as the racist issue is concerned, you would not make a point by painting with a broad brush.

I think you might go back and read forum rules before you continue your posts. Invectives such as calling people racist because they do not agree witth you is poor form and against forum rules.

Bob, this might come as surprise to you but Gitmo, while not a major problem for me, is one of my problems with Obama’s first term. But not such a major problem where it is something that would keep me from voting for his re-election. I have multitudes of things to ponder when I vote. 👍
