Tea partiers simply don’t want to be a part of the dismantling of the American economy that is now happening. They are not Democrats, They have principles other than saying anything and doing anything in order to maintain power.I love how the Tea Partiers are ensuring the re-election of the President!! Keep it up fellas. America is watching. . . .
The stimulus package obviously didn’t stimulate. Andall that is on the horizon is bigger spending projects that cannot paid for through taxing the rich, even if the taxation rate involved total confiscation of the propert of the rich, and taxing the 100 %.Bush tax cuts increased Federal revenue.
But they blew through that a long time ago.
Obama opened the wound up and dumped salt on it.
“In this present crisis, government is not the solution to the problem, government is the problem”
i agree with your statement. I would love that a politician put country ahead of party. I’m old enough to remember when actually happened. In the end, I don’t see this situation helping the GOP. Though it may be so on this forum, most American voters don’t see ousting Obama and putting the GOP in power as an end in itself. Refusal to compromise makes them look more like part of the problem, especially considering the amount of complaining they were doing about the national debt in the first place.
I’d rather something actually be accomplished then have to wait a couple more years. It’s always just a couple years away, after the next election, then they’ll start reducing the debt. Or maybe after the first reelection, when there isn’t so much pressure to get elected, and on and on.
In my view, these talks gave the ‘right honorable opposition’ a chance to show maturity and responsibility, a genuine interest in something other than sabotaging the incumbant and acquiring power, and has thus far let the opportunity pass by.
Ronald Reagan didn’t have to “sit here like this” if what I heard tonight was correct. I heard on one of the talking head channels that Ronald Reagan raised taxes 11 times. In any case I hope the President would take it to the American people. By American people I mean though more than just the Tea Party folks who seem to like to think they are the only people who make up the Ameruican people based on an electorate for one midterm election. There are polls showing the American people have supported raising taxes on the very top percentages of the wealthiest who can afford to pay more for some shared sacrifice. At this point, Cantor explained, the president became “very agitated” and said he had “sat here long enough,” that “Ronald Reagan wouldn’t sit here like this” and “something’s got to give.” Obama then told Republicans they either needed to compromise on their insistence on a dollar for dollar ratio of spending cuts to debt increase or agree to a “grand bargain” including massive tax increases. Before walking out of the room, Cantor said, the president told him: “Eric, don’t call my bluff. I’m going to the American people with this.” He then “shoved back” and said “I’ll see you tomorrow.”
I think spending needs to be cut on the right things, not things that are beneficial and helpful. Second, you also need to raise taxes, but not for the poor and middle class, but the upper class and upper-middle class.
If I’m a choir, you’re preaching to it Arkadin. Uh maybe because they can’t afford it?The poor and lower middle class pay nothing (nearly 50% of Americans pay nothing or get money back from the government). Why shouldn’t more people pay their fair share?
Which chunk of the nearly 50% can’t afford it? The bottom 10%? Sure. What about the top 10% of that group? What about eliminating the negative tax rates some enjoy?Uh maybe because they can’t afford it?
Holly, I remember you voicing your concerns about this awhile back. I am going to say a prayer for you tonight. And pray this does not end up unduly hurting you and others like you. It would shameful in my belief for it to do so. You and many others in similar circumstances should not have to bear the greater sacrifice on your backs. God bless you and peace be with you always.I honestly don’t understand the issue very well but I sure hope that I don’t end up losing my SSI checks, Medicaid, and Food Stamps over this. If I lost those things, I’d be in a major mess. I wouldn’t be able to afford my bills and such.

I agree. Whatever we do to the least of us you do unto me…sound familiar?Holly, I remember you voicing your concerns about this awhile back. I am going to say a prayer for you tonight. Yes as the Rev Al Sharpton said last night on a show I was watching, all of these yrs of the Bush tax cuts and look where it has gotten us. We were sold a fake bill of goods that they would create jobs. And yet still it amazes me some people still buy into it. And wow yes that Iraq war was costly. Peace.Agreed. Even former Federal Reserve Chairman, Greenspan said the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy have helped create these deficits. No one said a word about the huge deficits back during the Bush years. Idealogues are the problem in this country.
No let me put it this way. We are reaping what we sowed in Iraq. We now have a very divided country, a decimated economy and ‘shock and awe’ natural disasters.
It amazes me that people buy into big government at all. This is what you get, a lot of debt, and nothing to show for it. People who did not plan ahead because they planned on government being there for them will end up getting hurt. It would be even worse than it is now if liberals had complete control.Yes as the Rev Al Sharpton said last night on a show I was watching, all of these yrs of the Bush tax cuts and look where it has gotten us. B…b…b…but we had to be there! For…wait, what are we there for again? And wow yes that Iraq war was costly. Peace.
No and He even said render unto Caesar. He also spoke who the righteous should most care about in Matt 25:35-46. I know He said elsewhere something about a camel and the rich and an eye of a needle. But I don’t recall Him saying in those Matt 25 passages to be as concerned about the rich paying more tax. But I’ll go back and take a look. I might be a liberal and I know there was a thread about liberals and the Bible. But I have my Bible right here.Christ had no problem with taxes.
Why are you using a computer then? How many children had to suffer so you can be on this forum? It amazes me that people buy into big government at all. I wonder how many people talk trash about Wal-Mart for dealing with China, yet don’t talk trash about their SS check that’s being bank rolled by China. How many children had to suffer to make their life a bit easier?
It is a little crass actually for those who pay no taxes to vote for others to have their tax rates increased.Which chunk of the nearly 50% can’t afford it? The bottom 10%? Sure. What about the top 10% of that group? What about eliminating the negative tax rates some enjoy?
And are you saying that someone making $30,000/year with 2 children (below the poverty line) can’t afford even a 1% tax rate? With the deductions for children we are talking perhaps a total tax bill of a couple of hundred dollars for the year. I knew college kids that were getting money more back from Uncle Sam than they paid in, yet had a cell phone, cable television, and a car (my wife was one of them). Is this paying their fair share?
Note that I’m not suggesting that the most needy have their taxes raised. But as Ridgerunner frequently points out, the current tax system really is middle class welfare. Why shouldn’t all but the most helpless and vulnerable contribute something in taxes?
