Don’t you know this was an attempt to blame Bush and the Republicans, when the Democrats are at fault just as much. But you’d never hear them admit it.
There were two shutdown in the 90’s. The first happened with the liberal republican Bush the elder to force a tax increase. He caved on the no new taxes pledge to keep his bellicose opposition to Iraq takeover of Kuwait. The second with Gingrich as speaker during Clinton’s presidency.

The media has always produced the demopublican talking points in every one of these supposed crises. Still got to like Regan’s response when O’Neil shutdown the government on him. “If the government shuts down let’s see if anybody notices” or something like that. 👍

HatTip to iamrefreshed :tiphat::tiphat: Thank you:)
And I’m saying it bluntly, that this administration is the greatest wet blanket to business, and progress and job creation in my lifetime. And I can prove it and I could spend the next 3 hours giving you examples of all of us in this market place that are frightened to death about all the new regulations, our healthcare costs escalate, regulations coming from left and right. A President that seems, that keeps using that word redistribution. Well, my customers and the companies that provide the vitality for the hospitality and restaurant industry, in the United States of America, they are frightened of this administration. And it makes you slow down and not invest your money. Everybody complains about how much money is on the side in America.
You bet and until we change the tempo and the conversation from Washington, it’s not going to change. And those of us who have business opportunities and the capital to do it are going to sit in fear of the President. And a lot of people don’t want to say that. They’ll say, God, don’t be attacking Obama. Well, this is Obama’s deal and it’s Obama that’s responsible for this fear in America.
The guy keeps making speeches about redistribution and maybe we ought to do something to businesses that don’t invest, their holding too much money. We haven’t heard that kind of talk except from pure socialists. Everybody’s afraid of the government and there’s no need soft peddling it, it’s the truth. It is the truth. And that’s true of Democratic businessman and Republican businessman, and I am a Democratic businessman and I support Harry Reid. I support Democrats and Republicans. And I’m telling you that the business community in this company is frightened to death of the weird political philosophy of the President of the United States. And until he’s gone, everybody’s going to be sitting on their thumbs.

I should have been more explicit in my two party opinion. The one party is the corporate party who don’t really care much about the US or its future as long as they get their slice of the political spoils. The other is the minority who has the party bosses all in a huff. They may be derisively referred to as the tea party but the price of supporting republocrats they now seem to be holding corporate leadership hostage. It will be interesting to see if they can be bought off and cave.
Of course such an attitude allows one to sit on the sidelines and throw stones at everybody. As voters we have tough decisions that have to be made and like it or not we have a two-party system. Pontificating about minor candidates who are “perfect” in every way other than the they don’t have a snowball’s chance in hellto be elected does nothing to solve the problem. Making wild statements about Republicans not caring about the US or its future, is utter nonsense, even when yolu couch it with cute ad hominems like “Republocrats”. So my advice to those of you who want to criticize everybody while offering unworkable solutions is a get the hell out of the way and let those are ready to make the tough decisions and do the heavy lifting do their jobs.

I agree completely with you sentiments and I do support and vote across party line for any candidates who even remotely seem to be close to advocating the same things I think are necessary to change the path this country is on. With that being said, after watching what goes down as politics in this country I still maintain the games the boys and girls play at the upper echelons is only a game of one up man ship. The distinction between the parties through the last half dozen election cycles has been a choice of either heavy handed liberal nonsense and liberalism-lite nonsense. Until I can detect a distinct philosophical difference that might define the party platforms and there is some on social issues although depth of commitment is questionable, I remain skeptical if either will put the interest of future generations at the front of their agenda’s.

The problem here is that neither party is willing, nor have they ever been willing to do any heavy lifting. The republicans controlled the White House and the Congress from 2002-2006 and they were not willing to do any heavy lifting then, so now we are supposed to believe that they are the party of fiscal responsibility?

Because the Democrats are committed to much higher taxes [expiration of Bush tax rates … which are way too high … uncompetitively too high … PLUS much higher Obama rates PLUS corporate tax rates MUCH higher than competing nations], much more stringent environmental rules [MUCH higher energy costs … $10 per gallon gasoline as in Europe and MUCH more expensive electricity (skyrocketing up, per Obama’s campaign promise) and energy and industrial plants shut down)] … PLUS the hugely high costs of ObamaCare which will hit in 2013.

You can bet that unemployment … 5% under Bush … 9% under Obama … will rise to 15% under Obama II … no sane company will open an office, or a factory or any other facility in the United States … the Las Vegas casinos are all exploring developing their operations in Macao and elsewhere in anticipation of Las Vegas becoming a windblown desert bump in the road. High taxes in the U.S. would be suicidal to any company when lower taxes were readily available elsewhere.

There are Canadian companies, Tim Horton comes to mind, formerly incorporated in Delaware have reregistered themselves in Canada. This is money out of the pocket of the United States.

But, the Democrats are committed to that.

Look at Argentina … it used to be a first world country like the United States. Then it embraced Peronism … and became a third world country.

You can look at Argentina under Peron for the future of the United States.

Look at socialist Greece for today’s example of the future of the United States.

Look at Zimbabwe … It used to be the most prosperous country in Africa … the breadbasket of Africa … when it was Rhodesia … now look at it … it is the basketcase of Africa … rife with thugism. Everyone is starving. Same country … but now under socialist crony management.

The (only) alternative to that socialist future for the United States is the Republican party … and not a phony third party … guided by Tea Party principles which are based on the original intent of the Constitution.

Keep waiting. i unnderstand an exercize in futility when i see it.
Exactly. And I have also stopped replying to them on this thread because they were discussing me personally yet it is supposed to be against forum rules. And then they tried to compare it to me discussing the rich collectively. You apparently learn quickly though Sub Rosa. God bless you and peace.

The top 25% of earners in this country party pay 84% of all federal income taxes. . How much do you think they should pay in order to pay their fair share? . Are you willing to pay more income taxes given the fiscal problems this country is in?

I notice the abject silence of the rebuttal voices since Monte posted that long line of government sourced data regarding debt/deficit trends and military spending of GDP. Facts are interesting things.

. The only way to significantly increase revenues is to increase the number of people working. You don’t accomplish this by increasing the cost of doing business.
I think we had to go through this to learn how things work and don’t work. Obama is not delivering on all his promises because he cannot. The country is turning back to conservative principles because they work.

It’s been found that welfare does nothing to help people better themselves, it only creates a welfare mentality. Abortion and birth control has done nothing to reduce the number of children born to single parent families. Out-of-wedlock births have skyrocketed since the “Great Society” programs of 1965 and the legalization of abortion in 1973.

He probably thinks this is some sort of “personal attack” - however it is a fair question.

And to what extent was the unemployment rate a function of Bush’s policies? Unemployment was similarly low during much of the Clinton years. There is not much that Bush did that affected the economy much one way or another. Also, the Fed kept interest rates very low during the Bush presidency and had an expansionary monetary policy, which led to a bubble which popped. To what extent is Bush responsible for this? Should he have tried to have a tighter rein on the Fed?

It was Bush who started the socialism. After all, Medicare part D was pure socialism and it has Bush’s name all over it. Our country has zero future if we let the republicans guide our economic future. They are no better than the democrats.

No one was discussing you personally, just your posts.😉

You were hypocritical and got called on it.

Since you judge others as rich why can’t you be judged?

Remember…Judge not lest ye be judged?

The Gang of Six Is Back, Presents Bipartisan Deficit-Reduction Plan
July 19, 2011 1:46 PM
ABC News’ Sunlen Miller (@sunlenmiller) reports:
The gang is officially back.
The recently rekindled Gang of Six, a bipartisan group of senators that has been meeting since the start of the year in an effort to hatch a deficit-reduction deal, this morning presented their $3.7 trillion deficit-reduction plan to their colleagues.
The presentation was significant for its attendance alone: 50 senators – both Republican and Democrats attended and were briefed by six senators – Republicans Tom Coburn of Oklahoma, Saxby Chambliss of Georgia and Mike Crapo of Idaho, and Democrats Dick Durbin of Illinois, North Dakota’s Kent Conrad and Virginia’s Mark Warner.
The meeting was also significant in its response: Senators from both parties came out of the meeting abnormally encouraged.
“We went from a Gang of Six to a Mob of 50,” Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.V., said, leaving the meeting. “Great promise.”
“The gang of six plus is back,” Sen. Mark Warner, D-Va., exclaimed as he left the meeting.
At the White House, President Obama called the reemergence of the “gang” "good news.
“I think it is a very significant step,” Obama told reporters in the White House briefing room. “The framework they put forward is broadly consistent with what we’ve been working on at the White House.”
