I respect both George and H.W. Bush tremendously as wonderful human beings. Their presidencies were average, at best. Bill Clinton was probably slightly more effective as President (second term only), but I have very little respect for him as a person. I have tremendous respect for Mitt Romney personally and professionally. But then I like politicians who compromise reasonably, businessmen who work hard for their shareholders, and private church-going citizens who donate generously to charity.

How about 'about a non-Catholic"?

I think that everyone can be subject to criticism, even fellow Catholics. Did you hear about the battering Cardinal Dolan got from conservative Catholics for inviting the President to that banquet? “Traitor to the faith” and “heretic” among other epithets.🤷

Now, I am for certain a supporter of the Cardinal, but there was little criticism of those holier-than-the Cardinal types saying that.
 
Obama definitely treats Muslim causes very kindly. I see no reason to parse his name because that might appear to be offensive to Muslims.

You can go right down the line, encouraging the protesters in Egypt, not encouraging the ones in Iran, Benghazi. And his statements and demeanour reflect this as well.

The birth certificate is one issue but I don’t think that makes one who questions it out on the fringe though that is not an important issue.

It might surprise some that I am Conservative liturgically. I love the EF and a well done OF. I CAN’T stand a more 80’s style Mass just like so many around here. It’s Mass though, so I remain prayerful in either type. I often go to a Maronite church which is near me because I don’t drive. I like their liturgy as well.

I don’t see a necessary connection between my liturgical leanings and my politics.

I asked if you found people saying William Jefferson Clinton, Herbert Walker Bush or George Dubya Bush offensive as well. I did not ask your personal opinions on these people.

I drink The Macallan Scotch and I smoke hand-rolled cigars made by Cuban Paradise Cigar & Cafe in Madeira Beach, Florida. I consume both quite regularly, thank you. Xicar cutter and lighter.

Sorry. I stand corrected. Criticisms have to be done within reason and based on reasonable facts. I think George Bush was criticized way too harshly by liberals and the media. H.W. Bush was treated rather fairly. Clinton was often too harshly criticized as President for matters he did in his private life. Clinton may have been a scoundrel, but he was a fairly decent President (second term only). I am positive that Obama is a great husband and wonderful father. But I think he is an abysmal President based on his record. I believe he is a true socialist and secular humanist at heart.

What others are called or have called others is irrelevant to whether or not using Obama’s full name is offensive in present-day discourse. I cannot think of any other reason to use Obama’s middle name besides attempting to call to the hearer’s mind some kind of insidious connection to some other guy named Hussein.

Yes, that’s his middle name. It is what it is. But to keep throwing it out there as if it is significant is just petty.

I think “Dubya” was used in much the same way to insinuate that Bush was an ignoramus. I think that’s petty, too. Of course, Bush embraced the “W” in his campaign efforts, so it’s not quite the same.

NC is long gone for Romney, much like “swing-state” Missouri. Not worth fretting over for either side.

I don’t watch all the shows. But Raymond Arroyo bags great guests, including Cardinals, and Bishops, politicians like Newt Gingrich and Paul Ryan. Good show.

One does not necessitate the other. My wife is conservative politically, but she is a devout Charismatic Catholic. We attend different parishes. I happen to be conservative politically and in my liturgical preferences.

I studied for my MBA at John Carroll University before receiving my Juris Doctor at a secular university (Cleveland State University). I know Jesuits!

You are arguing with the board contrarian. The one who won’t vote for either candidate, but will take issue with anyone who dares attack Obama or the Democrats. You could tell him you are wearing a blouse, and he’d tell you “no, you’re wearing a women’s shirt, Jeanne.”
