THe suburban explosion in the 40’s and 50’s and the phenomena of “white flight”, in the 70’s and 80’s have certainly caused enormous problems in the American landscape.
Actually, suburbanization started even before the turn of the century. In fact, segregation by income was fairly common even then. What you call “white flight” is actually repeated by members of minority groups whenever their incomes increase. When minorities do it it is called taking advantage of opportunity, when whites do it is called racism.

Rich, you’re probably a nice guy, but I find such a comment inappropriate for a joke. In 2007, my daughter, then a a freshman at Ohio State, was called a racist b*tch because she wouldn’t sign a petition at an Obama campaign table. She said nothing to the Obama supporters except “no thanks, I’m voting for McCain”. As an OSU senior, she received a similar but milder response a few weeks ago when she wouldn’t accept an Obama pin and campaign sticker at a campus event. So I don’t find implications of white racism funny.
Good for your daughter. “Sticks and stones…”

There is, however, both white racism and black racism in society, and in particular on college campuses, so while I would certainly take your daughter’s side, I would not feel constrained from making racism the butt of a joke.

Its disgusting how low they will go. How did Obama get elected if voters are so racist???

I say there is racism on the left for any person of color who does not toe the liberal line.
Racism isn’t the perogative of either the left or the right. I hear enough remarks about “finally getting rid of that n*****” from some Romney supporters. And, yes, contrary racist remarks from the left as you note. 🤷

Good point. St Louis is a designated settlement center for displaced foreign nationals. We have a lot of Viet Namese and Bosnians. They start out living in the City of St. Louis. But as soon as they move up the ranks, usually within less than a generation, they move out of the city.

I wish people would just stop with branding people. Yes, I hear some white people say racist things. Stop giving it airtime. It is not representative of the larger population.

Why ever? St. Louis is a fine city.

The Vietnamese boat people who were processed here at Ft. Chaffee tended to stay in the Fort Smith area. I’m proud to say that as a Vietnamese speaker, I assisted those people some in getting established.

White guilt.
I have no guilt.

My sister and brother were little kids when my mom (white French) came to the US for a visit to start on her citizenship. She was in Florida with them and got on a bus. She went to the back of the bus because of the two kids being rambunctious.

The driver told her she wasn’t allowed to sit there. 😛

Good for you!

The parts of the city they could afford when they first come here aren’t the nicest. The suburbs are cheaper than the nicer parts of the city. And no, they can’t go live on The Hill. 😃

I agree. Racism does not represent white thought, even in the South, and I think that overall, it’s only the tool of those who would exploit it, regardless which political party they support.

And that ticks some people off.

My blonde haired blued eyed wife gets nasty comments all the time from black women when she is out with our daughter.
Where ever do you live? Never heard of such a thing in Little Rock. 🤷
