Obama vs Romney, who are you voting for and why?

I will vote for Romney because of the teaching of the Church regarding: abortion; homosexual “marriage”; the HHS mandate - religious freedom; and embryonic stem cell research.

One would think more people would see this. When you have a president who says he will work over the heads of Congress if he does not get his way, what does this do to our Constitution. Of course, more and more of our fellow citizens know nothings of that document and many who think we should trash it. People seem to think that Obama is going to help the poor. Fat chance with the policies he is aiming for. Even if I were not opposed to his radical abortion stance and other non-negotiables, I would be opposed to his radical ideas which he is trying to foist off on the reast of us. Sol Alinsky is alive and well in the White House.

He is for extending the temporary Bush tax cuts when they are set to expire again. When you don’t allow something that was temporary to expire and renew them you are giving a tax cut again. Obama did this at the end of 2010 in a compromise with Republicans. It is my understanding though Obama vows not to extend the portion of them that were for the rich again. He seems to understand better that we can’t just try to balance the budget on the backs of the poor and middle class, asking them to carry the burden without asking greater sacrifice of the rich.

And I realize it is September now and sometimes it can seem Romney’s positions on issues can change like the weather. But here is an analysis or two on Romney and his cohort Paul Ryan on taxes.

Well I’m a Social Worker so a Romney win isn’t going to do much for my prospects. 😃

You mean seek out one that agrees with you and your confessor? I know we are not to question a candidate on what they profess in faith and are to leave it between them and their confessor or spiritual advisor. I’m not sure or not if the same is to be extended to non candidates and their confessors and spiritual advisors though. But I know the interpretation of the Catholic bishops’ Faithful Citizenship guide sure gets a lot of differing interpretation here.

How so? I’m sure there are prospects available through many charitable organizations that serve the needs of the poor.

Under the Obama Administration, the poor, and the gap between the rich and poor, have increased considerably, so I can see why you would believe your prospects will improve, if we stay on the current trajectory. 😉

Matt, “the rich” are paying a fortune in taxes and regulatory fees *already". To the point where they are having trouble hiring and investing! Did you ever consider how wealth is created? I’ll tell you, all government can do is confiscate wealth from private individuals who have created it, and re-distribute it. Socialism can spread poverty and misery, but prosperity inevitably wanes.
Did you ever get hired gainfully by a POOR person like me? I guarantee you that you haven’t. Try reading anything by the great Thomas Sowell or the late Milton Friedman about how a society becomes prosperous. Sowell, BTW, was a flaming Communist in his younger days, before he spied the light of freedom. 🙂 Rob
 
Intrade currently gives better than 75% odds that the lemmings will get their wish. So all you people who still think Romney’s going to win, how do you explain this? Do people just like to throw their money away or what?

My husband and I are heterosexual, both of us worked hard all our lives until he became disabled and we have a disabled child as well that means I need to stay home to care for them both. We are now poor. It had nothing to do with gays or with not having an intact family.

And no, I don’t mean poor with cable TV and smartphones, etc. I mean the three of us live in a single room, the person who owns the rest of the house rents it to us and he has internet so we get to use that and that’s it.

No I’m not. I’m just saying gay marriage undermines the family. It’s not too hard to understand imho. 🤷

But if you look at the big picture, you’ll see that a common thing for poor people is lack of an intact family.

I’m not “you people”: but I would say that most folks who bet money like that **will lose it. ** Last time I checked on numbers (I don’t recall if they were intrade or not), more people were betting on Obama but more money was bet on Romney.

Look at what happened in elections since November 2008. They’ve almost all favored republicans.

The good news is that a Romney win would enable them to earn some of that money back fairly quickly, depending what happens in the Senate.

The GOP will cut funds for grants which go to charitable organizations which means less funding for programs assisting the poor. My previous job was cut do to the removal of a governmental grant- thankfully I had left a few months earlier.

Charitable organizations like Catholic Charities depend heavily on governmental funding. Bush actually did RELATIVELY well for this (for a GOP), You get a tea-partier in a position to effect change in funding and it would be BAD news- well, for the poor that is.

Church collections and donations just don’t it- not by a long shot.

The GOP is no friend of the Social Work profession- by-and-large, from the BSW caseworker, the MSW clinician, the private practitioner, or the college professor.

The only reason the Bush tax cut was temporary was they did not have the resolve to make them permanent as they should be, at least most of them.

Matt, I have a question for you. In what administrations have the lower middle class and the lower class income earners become non-payers of federal income taxes? I am not talking about payroll tax as in SSI and Medicare, federal income tax. Who were the presidents that made those cuts which shifted the majority of the tax burden on the upper middle class and the upper class income earners? This was not always the case you know.

What is a reasonable amount of income tax that should be applied to the lower middle and the lower class wage earners? On the same note, what is the rate at which the upper middle and upper class wage earners should pay? Thirdly, what is the proper, or to use a term others may use, what is the “fair” tax rate for capital gains?

Another question for you, what in your mind would disqualify a candidate for your vote? I’ll list a few;
  1. in favor of slavery
  2. self-proclaimed racist
  3. legalize child labor
  4. child porn legalization
  5. supports abortion rights
  6. supports the death penalty (you name the offense)
  7. same sex unions
These are just some that stick out in my head as hot button items. Would any of these disqualify the candidate for you?

One of my few caveats about the GOP; too much libertarian influence.
