A friend of mine threw a fit over this and said it was more dishonest and absolutely a bigger deal than the administration’s handling of the attacks in Libya and Fast & Furious. I finally had to tell him, “Nobody died when Ryan washed & dried.”

sorry Abyssinia , this video clearly shows there were no dirty dishes . pure photo op youtube.com/watch?v=M2WVJNxOpvY
Wrong. I have cleaned many a pot after my wife has cooked spaghetti, and that white foam scum you can see inside the pot is exactly what you need to clean, as well as the cooked-on foam on the outside when it boils over, as it often does. The same thing happens when you boil navy beans. When you boil brisket, it’s a little less white, but it’s still white.

And not all were unhappy with it, it seems. From the cited article, the following was from a woman who was working there.

“The woman on site told the Romney staffer that some of the volunteers had already left, but that most were happy to remain until Ryan arrived, according to the aide. After Ryan left the soup kitchen, the woman approached a campaign staffer and expressed gratitude for Ryan’s visit, the aide said”

So, they knew in advance that Ryan was coming, and at least some of the regular volunteers waited for him. One guy who incorrectly described himself as an independent, but who is really a Democrat, complained.

Typical Obama stuff.

That’s pretty slimy. Showing up at a soup kitchen to get your picture taken to make it look like you care about people and do good? Ugh, that’s why the guy gives me the creeps.

I’ve worked in soup kitchens for years. They are busy places and the people that run them and work there give so much and are so busy. They people that use soup kitchens are some of the poorest and most desperate in our country. It is very wrong to show up and pretend to help just to have a picture taken to score political points. That is not what they are there for. Some things you just shouldn’t play politics with, and taking fake pictures in a soup kitchen is over the line.
Oh, how silly!

I sometimes cook and/or clean for K of C charitable events, and sell tootsie rolls in front of Walmart or on the street. If somebody like Paul Ryan asked to make an appearance and put on that apron and sell tootsie rolls, even for two minutes, he would be welcomed in a NY second! Imagine how many Tootsie rolls your chapter could sell!

The parish priest in a parish I often visit was visited (well, the whole town was, really) by G.W. Bush after a natural disaster. Somebody took a photo, and the priest had it blown up hung it up in the vestibule of the school. The priest is not a particularly political man. It’s just an honor to have a visit like that from someone of that stature.

Good thing not all charitable organizations are as tight-puckered as this guy Antal is.

hilarious!😃

Guess he had more important places to go!
I don’t see any prominent democrats helping out a soup kitchens.

I guess to them, that work is beneath them.

What have you done for the poor, ringil?

Having an individual running for public office come to yyour organization is a bit more complicated than any ole’ joe wanting to come in to help- there are implications.

You can’t just “show up” with an extensive entourage, cameras, security etc. It’s rude and disruptive.

when I worked at a soup kitchen they had to know I was coming. I couldn’t just show up. People have “stuff to do” you know.

This political stunt is as transparent as they come.

Minorities, babies, women and the poor are all expendable for some of the progressives.

No expense can be too great for the utopian dream.

It’s a political photo-op: politicians do this sort of thing. Most appropriate for such “compassionate conservatives” as Ryan and Romney. The larger issue is what ringil mentions.
We can’t afford any more liberalism or Bush/Rove “compassionate conservatism”.

Romney and Ryan are not that.

Remember when Michelle volunteered @ the food bank wearing $500 sneakers?

Romney and Ryan are whatever their precious magical bipartisan committee says they are. Oh wait…it doesn’t exist so right now they’re nothing.
Look at Mitt Romney’s record as governor and compare it to Reagen or Bush.

Romney has the best fiscal record of the three.

That is who he is and what we need.

I remember, according to the left wing media, she can have an expensive dress but it’s a problem is Sarah Palin does.

What’s really cool is that Palin probably would’ve beat this president in a landslide.

That is who he is and what we need.
We don’t need a man who has no plan of action other than to wait for a bipartisan committee to form and decide his policies for him. Thats not how you run a nation. Thats not leadership.

The clear difference being that Michelle Obama didn’t use campaign contributions to sack Neiman Marcus so she and her husband could have a new wardrobe.

Romney’s plan for the economy will work. He’ll get us energy independent, won’t bailout unions and crony CEOs, and he’ll lower the tax rates on job creators and his plan will increase the revenue to government.

I’ll bet real money that you’ve got some selfish excuse for supporting this president.
Thats not leadership.
The current administration and Senate majority leader cannot lead. This president is in over his head and is a complete and total failure.
The clear difference being that the first lady didn’t use campaign contributions to sack Neiman Marcus so she and her husband could have a new wardrobe.
She and her husband just use taxpayer money to take themselves and their friends on vacation to places like Spain and they also use taxpayer money to campaign.

There’s also evidence to suggest they are getting money from foreign donors.

Romney has the experience. The president just has Carter-esque class warfare and worthless faculty lounge solutions that don’t work in reality.

Romney has the same stale ideas that have been implemented before and never worked. For all his moaning about corporate tax rates he always seems to omit the fact that the effective rate is lower than what the average American wage earner pays in most cases. In fact, 2/3rds of businesses and corporations in the United States don’t have any tax liability at all. You’re telling me that Romney is going to do better than a big fat zero tax rate?

Their friends payed their own expenses. All of the griping was about the fact that they were on Air Force One which was going to Spain anyway.

Right.
Romney has the experience.
Romney’s experience consists of laying people off and shipping their jobs to China. No amount of dish washing on the part of his running mate will change that fact.

Romney has the same stale ideas that have been implemented before and never worked.

They worked in the 1920s and under Reagen.

Even JFK proposed tax cuts after taking office.

It didn’t work under Reagan which is why he took a 180 and raised taxes. Of course, he referred to tax rate hikes as “revenue enhancers.”
Are you kidding? We have the highest tax rate in the industrialized world!
Not kidding. We might have the highest tax rate at face value on paper but the mountains of deductions and write-offs leave 2/3rds of businesses and corporations with a tax liability of zero and, sometimes, the government winds up owing them money instead. In fact, as this article points out, 300 out of the fortune 500 had a federal income tax rate of only 18%. Funny that the vast majority of companies don’t pay taxes and multi-billion dollar corporations pay a lower tax rate than I do yet Romney thinks they need even more breaks.
The article states precisely what I said; their friends paid their own expenses.
Romney saved companies and thousands of jobs working with Bain. The reality is that whenever companies do overhaul the biggest expense are salaries. Either they trim the workforce every now and then or the entire company goes under and everyone loses their job.
Employee compensation is entirely tax deductible so I don’t buy that.

What’s really sick and sorry is the lack of gratitude. Yes, gratitude.

If Romney gets elected he’s going to rescind the HHS mandate on religious organizations and that grouchy bureaucrat isn’t going to lose his job. He’d ought to be grateful for that, but Nooooo.

I’ll tell you what, I don’t want Obama to win for a lot of reasons, but if he does I’m going to sit back and watch the fireworks. Some of these self-important tunnel-vision bureaucrats are going to get the shock of their lives if that happens.

I’m telling you, the liberal establishment that’s enshrined in Catholic institutions is on a collision course with the Democrat party. If it doesn’t happen this time, it’s only a matter of time. And it isn’t going to be pretty. It’s going to be a train wreck.

One thing Romney almost certainly knows about is the degree to which corporate decisions are driven by tax considerations instead of straightforward business considerations. One of the problems Reagan dealt with, and to some extent successfully, was curing some of the misallocation of resources that can occur when loopholes pile upon loopholes in an ever-more-complex tax code, causing corporations to do things for tax reasons instead of productive reasons.

One can be skeptical all day long about whether Romney would tackle misallocations caused by the tax code and the degree to which he might succeed in resolving them. But even a person who is only passingly familiar with taxation knows the misallocations exist and at least some of the reasons why they exist.

A lot of “loopholes”, deductions, credits, were created to encourage certain kinds of behavior the government at the time thought to be beneficial to the economy. Some, of course, were to serve some constituent of some powerful legislator at the time. Not all of those things actually serve any useful purpose in the economy, but they still influence investment decisions. I’m no expert at it, but one might at least mention in passing the deductions wealthy people get for operating these silly alpaca farms. They don’t make money. There’s not much of a market for anything but alpaca breeding stock sold to rich people. But they get substantial tax benefits from them, benefits that were actually designed to encourage the production of livestock that actually add to the food supply. Without even considering the tax dollars that don’t get paid to the government, perhaps the worst part of the deal is that it’s a terrible misallocation of investment resources. That money could go into some productive enterprise that actually makes money and adds to the national stock of useful goods, but it doesn’t.

What’s missing here is that Romney and Ryan have been doing this sort of charity work their whole lives.

There’s just something so wrong about the left lying about this whole event. The damage is done. I saw it on my nephews fb page. It’s a low and cheap blow.😦
