President Busha nd his friends are rolling in big bucks.Texaco has higher profits than in its entire history. Americans wil be chilly this winter in homes they can’t heat because President Bush won’t curtail the excess’s of his buddies. Many Americans who voted for The President are about to get a very Rude awakening.

What an ignorant post.😦

The oil companies are making tens of BILLIONS of dollars profit a year, while poor Americans (and Europeans) are struggling to fill their car with fuel and keep their businesses running.

That can’t be right.

Profit is not bad. In the US oil companies have had their hands tied by the various environmental groups. They cannot spend their profits on drilling new wells, or building refineries – which would help with the supply of oil and lower the cost.

Seeing profit as bad is the thing that can’t be right.

Profit isn’t bad at all, but greed is; and I think oil companies are the greediest ones on the face of the earth.

Why don’t you just quit supporting the greedy oil companies then? People all over the world are self sufficient in their energy needs. They walk wherever they want to go, gather firewood for heat, carry water from the river. You don’t have to contribute to the energy companies. If you think the prices are too high, don’t buy.

Not possible.

Exactly. Whatever one’s views on profit, excessive profit is just greed, and tens of billions of dollars while millions of ordinary people are struggling to make ends meet is greed, to put it mildly.

Record profits on the backs of record prices is a very bad thing for our economy. The reason these companies are able to make the money they are comes down to this Free World Wide Trade. China and India are willing to pay $60-$75 a barrell of oil (but only pay their workers an average of $6 a day)eventhough much of the oil comes from both Canada and the United States and cost them, the big oil companies such as Exxon Mobile and Texaco between $10-$15 to get out of the ground. This is the best and most obscene example of big business running full tilt without the concern of government regulation. They have tripled there refining fees in the last 3 years again, because they can. Lastly, the latest pork filled energy bill gave these companies tax incentives to further their technology in developing new energy alternatives. I guess they just cant afford to invest their business in alternative energies, that they need the government to foot the bill.

I am for drilling in ANWAR, but, I believe we have an obligation to the people of our country to mandate in the legislation that the oil must stay in our domestic markets. Otherwise, no, dont let them drill.

Who was complaining back in the 1980’s when oil went bust and those same oil companies were LOSING billions each year?

The silence I hear is deafening.

Maybe we should just socialize the industry. So what if that doesn’t work, it would keep the price down, at least temporarily.😦

Is this in regards to plane crash in Texas that led to all the problems?

I am always amazed by the fact that so many people whine about oil company profits and greed but none of them direct any anger at the real beneficiaries of gasoline sales…THE GOVERNMENT. If you look at a breakdown of where your gas money goes you find that the government gets more revenue from taxes than the oil companies receive in profit and they do not even do anything to get the gas to us. There is the real greed and price gouging.

The government isn’t a black hole. It spends that money on programs that benefit us all.

The company isn’t a black hole either, but it spends that money on the lucky few who have the money in the first place to afford shares in the company, and who don’t do anything to get the gas to you either.

That tax money is used for the highways and interstates.

I have my own opinion on that 🙂 but nevertheless there is certainly a point when profit crosses the line from reasonable to excessive. The oil companies are very far on the wrong side of the line right now.

My memory is fuzzung, but back in the 1980’s there was a plane crash in Texas that killed several oil big-wigs. Caused all kinds of financial problems, etc.

So who gets to decide what reasonable is? Wouldn’t that be the consumer?
