NotWorthy:
In OS’s Defense (no, don’t worry, this isn’t the 7th sign!!!), I consider all Protestant Reformation churches to be apostate, but I don’t consider all non-Catholics to be going to hell. I **think **my view reflects that of the Catholic Church.
If I recall correctly, that is what you said that Old Scholar claimed. If I’m mistaken, then I’m sorry.
This is what I claim:
That Bible speaks
frequently, and in glowing terms, of the church.
Kingdom of God, Bride of Christ, New Jerusalem—these are some of the names given to the church. So what is the church?
Romans 12:5 tells us that: So we, who are many **are one body in Christ, **and individually
we are members who belong to one another.(NET) Most every translation says exactly the same thing.
We are all one body in Christ.
Notice it says
ONE BODY. Sometimes called, “the body of Christ.”
Col 1:18 And
He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn of the dead, that in all things he might have the preeminence.
What happens when one becomes a believer?
Acts 5:14 And **believers **were the more
added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and women.)(RSV)
The Christian Church is not an organization, it is not an institution, it is not a building,
it is people. Specifically, people who believe in Jesus Christ as their saviour.
The church is the body of believers who have been baptized into the church.
1 Cor 12:12 For as
the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many,
are one body: so also is Christ. 13) For by one Spirit
are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.
This doesn’t leave room for different people. Believers are belivers, not Protestant or Catholic or Mormons, etc.
GA 3:28 There is
neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither
bond nor free, there is neither
male nor female: for
ye are all one in Christ Jesus.
EPH 4:4 There is
one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; 5) One Lord, one faith, one baptism,
So we are told that
the church is the people—all people who believe in Christ as their Savior and Lord.
This tells us that the church is the mystical, intimate union of all people who believe in Christ. The Holy Spirit converts people one by one. But he doesn’t let them remain alone—detached.
Once I **have faith in Jesus **and I
am united with Him, I
am automatically untied with everybody else who is united with Him. Jesus gives us **our oneness **as we all trust in the
same Jesus.
From this we learn: By bringing them to faith in Christ, He makes them members of Christ and fellow members of all believers in Christ. Thus,
the church is one body, one family, one fellowship: the communion of saints. We all address God as **“Father.” **Those are family words.
Why is it we want to split up into groups and believe different things? Shouldn’t we merely believe in Christ Jesus and follow His word?
