In college, we prayed a rosary together each night. We would say intentions before each decade, and the intention he said for the last decade was for all engaged couples (we knew several), and all those about to be. He then dropped down on one knee, and as they say, the rest is history. 😃

Hey I live in Charlotte, NC…
cool…hey neighbor…🙂

We had gone to Baja California to see a solar eclipse. We live in Knoxville, so we flew to San Diego, rented a car and drove down the coast. Incredible sights! We pulled off the road, went inbetween the sand dunes and the ocean and set up camp.
The next day during the eclipse, we were lying on the sand dune. As the sun is slowing being covered by the earth’s shadow, he starts talking about this is truly a gift from God. Then he turns to me as says, “You are my gift from God. Will you marry me?”
Now, I had been married before and it was a horrible, violent marriage. My former husband had been addicted to cocaine and when he was on a high, he was extremely violent. I had never truly regained trust in another human being. So that day, I said no, that I wanted to keep our relationship the way it was.

3 years later we were married. The most romantic thing I found about my husband is that he stood by me those three years until I was ready to marry him. He was so funny, in that he would check every few months about getting married. He would say, something like - "Well do you think you are ready?’ If I answered no, he would give me a kiss and say, “Just let me know, but I will keep checking also”

We now have two beautiful children, a daughter, 7 and a son, 4.

No romance at all! He said, “We should buy a house.” I said, “I will never buy a house with someone I’m not married to.” He said, “Okay, let’s get married.” So three weeks later, we did. He’s been a great husband, though he hasn’t a romantic bone in his body. Forgets my birthday, our anniversary, etc.

some men are like that, my guy defiantley is like i said our engagement was the only romantic thing hes ever done! but i look at it like this, at least we never expect to much out of them, the little things seem more romantic when they dont do the big things!

My husband and I have been married for almost a year. When he proposed, we were at his house. I was making dinner and he had disappeared to the other end of the house for quite some time. I was irritated because he said he would help me cook dinner, and I had a bad day and wasn’t in the mood to cook and clean all by myself. When he came into the kitchen, I had decided to ignore him because I was mad. He came up behind me and put his arms around my waist. I softened a little, but then he moved one hand behind his back. He was moving his hand around, and I asked “what are you doing?” He said “oh, my butt itches.” I started laughing and pushing back on him to get him off me, then he moved his hand around to my front, and in it was a open box and a beautiful ring! I gasped and put my hand up to my mouth, my eyes filling with tears. I turned to face him and he got on one knee and asked me to marry him. It was my parents 23rd anniversary that day, so it meant so much to me!

(oh, I guess the ring box got stuck in his back pocket, and that is why he told me he was scratching his butt…what a sense of humor, eh?)

I know this doesn’t exactly answer your question – but we both agreed that we wanted to keep it a secret forever, so we never told ANYONE (not family, friends, etc.) how we got engaged…

I actually think that’s kinda romantic…😉

He took me to the Louisville Zoo one weekend. I wasn’t expecting anything, but we had been talking about engagement, so I wasn’t totally shocked. Well, we got to the monkey display and I turn and he’s got this box out and I start smiling like a moron and he asks and I stammer out an “of course” and continue smiling like a crazy person the rest of the Zoo trip! I don’t remember many other animals we saw that day, though! 😃
Jennifer–married 10 wonderful years

He didn’t propose. I did. SOMEONE had to make a decision, and Lord knows, it wasn’t going to be him.

My favourite movie proposal is the scene in Moonstruck, where the guy whips out a ring in a crowded restaurant, gets down on one knee, and says, “I’m askin ya in fronna God an all dese people, will ya marry me?”

She says, “This is not a good time for this.”

He says, “I’m askin’”

She says, “Don’t do this here.”

He says (fully confident), “Honey, I gotta know.”

She says, “No.”

My parents had the same secret! It drove us kids nuts; we made up all kinds of stories, but they’ve been married nearly 50 years, and we still don’t know…It’s lovely.

Me too Penny… I asked him. I knew a good thing when I saw it, and, well I just did it.

We got engaged on his birthday…He kept insisting that I not buy him anything because he would get what he wanted for his birthday. I was pretty upset about it because in the past he has bought himself gifts that I was planning to give him, but I decided to just buy him a shirt and a bunch of gifts to make him laugh anyway.

Well, his birthday was on a Sunday and he was planning to ask me right after Mass and then recieve a blessing from the priest. He had it all planned out with our priest and was so sure he’d surprise me. Sunday morning came and he woke up very early and very nervous. Around 6:30 he came over and tried to wake me up. I kept telling him to go away and I had no idea what he was trying to tell me. Then I thought I was hearing: “I love you. Please marry Emily. Will you be my wife?” I thought he was joking and opened my eyes to glare at him, but the first thing I saw was a white velvet box and the most beautiful ring I’ve ever seen. I jumped up and yelled: “YOU’RE SERIOUS??? YES! YES! YES! YES!”

When we got to the Church, we saw father and in a sheepish voice he said: “Uhhh, I couldn’t wait, father.” 😃

We had both graduated from the same college and went back to the same home town, each to our parents home. It was a lot different than the freedom we had at school.

One night, in the car, we were driving somewhere(?) and he, out of the blue, says “I was thinking we probably ought to get married”. I said, “OK, but my mother says she needs six months”. We were married six months later. That was 1978. In 1999 after my mother-in-law passed away, his sister gave me grandma’s diamond. “You never had a diamond, and I know my mother would want you to have this”. I have worn it to this day.

It has been a sometimes stormy 26 years, but most of the time I’m crazy about him.

We had a tickle fight. We were both out of breath from laughing, and he says, “So, when are we getting married?”

We eloped (LONG story). He couldn’t afford an engagment ring, only the wedding band. We’ve been married 21 years now.😃

We had been dating for exactly one year. It was my graduation day (from high school). I walked out of the Civic Center and found my whole family standing around in a circle and when I walked up to them, he got down on one knee and opened the box. He didn’t even have time to ask me the question. I grabbed the ring and gave him a huge hug. He then wispered in my ear “Will you marry me?” and of coarse I said yes. (My mom took a picture of us while he was on his knees and he is giving me the cutest “please!” face)Then we all went out to eat and he got the waitors to announce to everyone in the restaraunt that we just got engaged and they all clapped. We got married 3 months later at the court house and went on our honeymoon to Gatlinburg Tn 3 months after that. It was wonderful. We still plan on having a ceremony one day, probably on one of our big anniversaries and when we have the money to do so. We have been married for 3 years and are expecting our first child. A boy due in February!

My husband was very romantic during our short courtship, so I expected a romatic proposal. Nope, it didnt happen…

We were talking about marriage in general one day and he said “lets get married” and we got married about 2 weeks after that. I never even got an engagement ring.

:crying: These stories make me so jealous!:crying: I want my baby to propose to me NOW!!! (It will be sometime this year though, we looked at rings on bluenile.com last night. 😃 )

I’ll keep you all posted!!!

He proposed 3 weeks ago!

We were at his parents cabin in Houghton Lake, Michigan! It was about 40-degrees, ice had just melted off the lake earlier that week. So we put on lots of clothing layers and went out to do some evening fishing on the lake! Towards sunset we were packing up and getting ready to call it a night.

He was standing by the edge of the lake and called me over saying “get over here and give me a hug” in his fun, playful way. So we stood by the water at sunset “bubble gumming” as my mom would say when he got serious, told me he loved me and asked me if I trusted him. I told him of course, that I trusted him with my whole heart! Next he proceeded to get that passionate crazy look in his eyes as he picked me up, threw me over his shoulder and started running into the lake…me laughing and wailing the whole time!

So into the lake we went fully clothed and proceed to be fully soaked. After he put me down he grabbed my hands (so I didn’t run back to shore) and went down on one knee in the lake. He pulled out the ring (it was tied around his neck w/ fishing line) and asked me to be his wife. I said yes three times…it went something like “Of course, you know I will, YES”!!!

He said it was the “baptism” of our life together!

He is my bestfriend, we were “college sweathearts” and I love him so much. 😃 We share so much including our Catholic faith and I couldn’t be happier!

We were at our favorite restaurant, and he arranged ahead of time to have the ring and some flowers brought in on a plate, as “dessert.” I was very surprised and touched… and said “Of course!” immediately!

My parents didn’t know him very well, since I lived far from home at the time… they only knew he was quite a bit older than I. We went to tell them, and my dad dutifully brought out his best whiskey for a toast. Then while we were sipping that, he asked, “So, when’s the wedding?” We said, “Oh, eighteen months or so… the fall after this coming fall.” He broke out in a relieved smile, poured another round with great gusto, and we finally realized (though he never said it!) that Dad was afraid that we had to get married! We still laugh about that!
