The people of Western Ukraine, being unaccustomed to the Russian yoke and witnessing the Holodomor, preferred the Nazis to the Soviets. Tough call. I can understand that the Galicians are strong opponents of the Moskaly and vice versa. But the Russians have been equally brutal in Zakarpattia, and beyond.

What both Constantinople and Moscow and all other Orthodox Patriarchates teach is that in case of reunification, Byzantine Catholics must return to their Orthodox Patriarchates,
Yes, this is true. And in the joint declaration of the Pope and the Moscow Patriarch they said:
" It is today clear that the past method of “uniatism”, understood as the union of one community to the other, separating it from its Church, is not the way to re–establish unity."

If Vienna fell, or if Mongols reached Atlantic, or if communists took Germany, the planet would still rotate.
That is a rather laissez faire approach to take when the consequences would have been nothing less than disasterous to Christianity.

Sorry to see Fr Simon shilling for the MP.
A shill is someone who pretends to be impartial but is a knowing accomplice of a swindler. The shill pretends to be sincere but in fact he is being rewarded for intentionally circulating dubious information.
To use the word “shill” is derogatory and name calling. It should be against the rules to make derogatory comments about clergy, including disrespectful and insulting comments against Orthodox priests.
Some posters here claim that Orthodox are anti-Catholic while we see that it is apparently OK for a Catholic poster to use insulting terms against a Russian Orthodox clergyman?

No, this is false. Where on earth do you get hte idea that this is true.
For pity’s sake the multiplicity of “Russian” Orhtodox groups in America have not been able to come together. Who on earht at some very preliminary stage be putting conditions on affiliations? How absurd.

This is true, sadly, and sorrowfully obvious.

The MP is dishonest about the evil it perpetrated against Greek Catholics. Brazenly dishonest.
If a former Catholic clergyman, who abandoned the Catholic church, parrots the MP party line, that person is also being dishonest. I will pray for Fr. Simon.

Let’s never forget for one single second that the birthplace of the fraud known as the Protocols of the Elders of Zion, that favorite anti-Semitic screed among Jew haters, was Russia.
The political satire, Dialogue aux enfers entre Machiavel et Montesquieu ou la politique de Machiavel au XIXe siècle, was written by Maurice Joly in 1864 and is the source for the Protocols of the Elders of Zion. IOW, France, not Russia, was the original source and basis for the Protocols. The Protocols were published in Russia in 1903. And in 1920, the American, Henry Ford, paid for the printing of 500,000 copies to be distributed in the USA.

Fr. Constatin Simon, SJ, was Doctor of Philosophy and professor of Slavic and Russian History in the Pontifical Oriental Institute (Rome) and he was the vice-rector of the Pontifical Oriental Institute in Rome, and advisor of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian unity.
He gave lectures around the world on Church history.
Some of his books:
Russicum: Pioneers and Witnesses of the Struggle for Christian Unity in Eastern Europe: Leonid Feodorov, Vendelin Javorka, Theodore Romzha: Three Historical Sketches, Volume 1
Rome: Opere Religiose Russe, 2001

Russicum: Pioneers and Witnesses of the Struggle for Christian Unity in Eastern Europe: The First Years 1929-1939, Volume 2
Rome: Opere Religiose Russe, 2002

Constantin Simon, S.J.: Pro Russia: The Russicum and the Catholic Work for Russia. Rome: Orientalia
Christiana Analecta 283, Pontifical Oriental Institute, 2009

His mother was a Ukrainian Greek Catholic. His home parish, St. Mary’s was a UGCC.
Some posters here go around with their insults, suggesting that he is a dishonest priest, but I doubt that they have the credentials on Eastern Christianity that Father Simon has. I wonder if they have read anything that he has written.

You are the same poster who emptily suggested that i should attend a DL.
Now you make empty remarks about credentials.
In general it is better to post about things that you know about.

I am not unfamiliar with Fr Simon or his departure from the Catholic Church… His history doens’t chnage his present or the history of the church. Pray for him.

Father Simon knows far more about UGCC than you. As he has said in that video, the role of UGCC is to create division between Rome and the Orthodox Church, and i am afraid you are playing that same role, because you spread extreme version of Ukrainian nationalism.

That is likely to be true. But he probably knows less that Fr Taft whom I have been referencing.

I am not sure what Fr Simon - a Jesuit from the Russicum now working with the ROC. I am happy to give him the benefit of the doubt. But whatever his long term goals in his interesting new role, I will call out nonsensical revisionist history when I see it.

The idea that Ukraine is an independent nation is not the least bit extreme. The denial of that reality is extreme.

There are no dishonest goals in Fr. Simon’s life. Now he lives in a Orthodox Monastery as a monk-priest, leading strict ascetic Orthodox Monastery life, unlike the life of Vatican professors that he had, the life which lacks discipline when compared to the Orthodox Monastery life.
What i am trying to say, he gained nothing earthly by converting to Orthodoxy and living in a monastery, it is opposite actually.
It is his heart and education that led him to Orthodoxy.

I am fine with that. And I am fine with the number of former Orthodox priests that are now serving within my particular church. But in all cases, people need to be careful with their words and are not immune from criticism when they err. I love the work that Lev Gillet after translating to the Orthodox Church, particularly his great writings on the Patristic teachings on the Immaculate Conception. The quotes from Fr. Simon on the Unia, not so much.

Yes, 1 January is the birthday of Stepan Bandera.
Тhe image of Stepan Bandera helps the national mobilization.
Moscow has hit Ukraine to destroy the spirit of Stepan Bandera, and it so happened that this spirit took possession of the country, in the country there is amputation of Russophilia. The Russian Orthodox Church in Ukraine is the fifth column of the Kremlin, theirs priests are agents of the enemy state.

Stepan Bandera is a war Criminal and NAZI collaborator of Hitler, if his image helps mobilizing UGCC to slauther Russians, then it tells us enough about many things.

How many priests are in your parish? 100, lol. And no body asked you anything about your parish. While Father Simon is relevant to this debate here. Immaculate Conception also not the subject. I don’t see what are you trying to pull off? Justifying your union again? Even pope said it was historical wrong.

Just as a reminder, the entire Soviet Union was a Nazi collaborator. Molotov–Ribbentrop Pact anyone?

many priests are in your parish?
What do you ask about my parish? Are you unfamiliar with the term “particular church”? If so, just ask.
Even pope said it was historical wrong
Not quite, but a rendering from you well within expectations. It is always amusing to come across another from the Pavel Checkov line of historians. 😀

One more point: Sorry if you find the content of my posts challenging, but I decide on their content independent of your whims.

Practically the whole Ukrainian population welcomed the Germans as liberators from the monstrous rule of the Soviets. Later they learned there was little difference between those two oppressors.
