One issue I have with the Second Amendment crowd

🤔 didn’t the NRA used speak out about the violent video games?
Some members as individuals perhaps.

But the NRA doesn’t really involved itself in issues outside of the right to bear arms, and a shoot em up video game isn’t in their crosshairs.

PS: I don’t want this to become a thread where people start coming together to bash the Second Amendment or gang up on gun owners but rather a calm and civil discussion about the topic on hand. I know my rhetoric may come across as coming in “bad faith” but supporters of the Second Amendment, I would like your response, especially in relation to the concepts of social justice.
Yet this is what you just did. Why is it the only, the only, solution is always for government to spend more money.

That was before Ollie North came on board.

I doubt very much that we’ll hear him speaking out against violent video games, given that he’s accepted money to endorse them.

Did he accept money to endorse all of them or just select game(s)?

There is a difference between military games and games where you can violently kill civilians with chainsaws, shotgun to the face, etc

When I was a kid they would close school when it got too cold (-50F). Now the same schools stay open when it gets that cold because they are afraid to have school age children left at home.

So what is it with Americans…are we more mentally unstable…more violent…why are our kids slaughtering other kids…why not kids in other countries…they play violent video games don’t they…they have mental health problems don’t they…they have liberal gun laws like we do don’t they…oh!! wait…

The right to bear arms to a natural right. Mental health isnt. Your very premises is wrong.

Since we had the liberal gun laws a good hundred years before this started, it can’t be the cause. Maybe it’s the confluence of several factors, gun access being one of them

Actually, those jurisdictions here in America that DO have draconian gun laws, places like Chicago and Washington DC, have the worst gun violence. Chicago is a brutal killing field, Washington DC is so bad that a US Senate John C. Stennis got held up on the street, and highly connected political operative Sean Rich was slaughtered and its like “who cares” they have so many other victims.

Agreed…so what could the other factors be…

Health and well-being isn’t a natural right? Yes, our rights as constitutional traditions may be important but what about the millions of Americans who are hurting. Where is their recourse? Surely, there is a better way, especially since so many hurt in our society.

no it isnt a natural right. A natural right is a right given to us by god. if “Health and well-being” were a natural right we would all be born in perfect health and well being.

If the right to bear arms was a natural right we’d all be born owning guns.

The first humans had health and well-being. They did not have weapons.

By “Second Ammendment people” do you mean Americans or just Americans who own guns?

Lets assume that youre correct that health and well being is a natural right. Just like my second amendment right it is my responsibility to protect my family and myself. Like wise it is up to you and everyone else to protect their health and well being. Not the governments job.

Mental health has been abandoned or allowed to languish as it is costly and requires that a judgment be made of some form of mental illness. Those who decry the judgment of other human beings (except those they disagree with politically) have either directly caused this, or have allowed the decline of the safety net. The liberal buzzword “mainstreaming” came about in the 80s and has moved many patients out of facilities and simply given them apartments. There is no charity in that, as they are vulnerable human beings.

In each and every case of mass murder, innumerable hints, clues, suggestions were given by the perpetrators - and routinely ignored! How can you stop a murderer that you ignore? One who would still be alive if living in a controlled environment? This is not a “crowd” situation. It is for you and I to work on.

Murder, no matter how it is accomplished - whether by bare hands, fertilizer bomb, blunt object, knife, gun or vehicle, has nothing, zip, zero, nada to do with the 2nd Amendment. It occurs in maximum security prisons and jails nationwide! No, murder has to do with the human heart and controlling criminality - a classic failure of the left wing.

It has to do with the media culture of death. We reap what we sow. Where is the uproar over the abuses of the First Amendment - fake news - that causes terror and despair which lead some to commit murder? Just try to control the First Amendment and see who comes out of the woodwork!

The Second Amendment was created to prevent a tyrannical government from lording it over the people. Those who feared President Obama, and who now fear President Trump should understand this. Unless they seek a tyrannical government, that is.

Oh, the closet lefties sure come out when the NRA is mentioned.

Q: What, exactly, my liberal/progressive friends, does the NRA have to do with the rise in violent crime/mass murders?

A: Nothing. It represents the law abiding people who love ALL of the amendments. But only one of those amendments is under attack.

Hmmmm…

The NRA pushed for enforcement of existing (ignored) statutes during the Clinton years. It favors mandatory sentencing for armed crime. It does everything it can to budge liberals off the dime and put the law to work. In return it is branded with every imaginable slur.

Oh but liberals have an anti-NRA agenda, so ignoring laws, keeping criminals on the street and watching with delight as murders increase helps the leftist anti-NRA agenda.

Who really has the blood on their hands?
