Sure it could have. The president had the same power to fire an IG then as now as Obama did 6 years ago. This firing of 2 IGs could not have happened 3 years ago.

Its because of the ever increasing power and scope of the federal govt at the expense of the states.I don’t know why you think the 10th Amendment is dead
Not at all. It should not have been trampled on for the last 100 something years. It still does not mean it is now OK to trample it.
I get the feeling that the Democrats new found love for the 10th will vanish as soon as we have a Democrat President again. That said, I almost fell out of my chair watching progressive DNC media reporters referencing it.
Along with the constitution generally.JonNC:![]()

Does he work at the pleasure of the chief executive? Yes. The chief executive has the legitimate power to fire him.But an IG is created by statute specifically not to be " his people" from a loyalty perspective.
If loyal, the IG SERVES NO PURPOSE.
That is what has been misrrpresented
What IG did Obama fire and was it for disloyalty?
Obama’s move follows an investigation by IG Gerald Walpin finding misuse of federal grants by a nonprofit education group led by Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson, who is an Obama supporter and former NBA basketball star.
The reasons for Obama’s actions have been listed several times in this thread, and those reasons were at the advice of many others, and were independently justified. Trump’s, not at all.LeafByNiggle:![]()
I’ve provided instances where the previous president did exactly the same.Whether or not it is permitted, it is not appropriate to fire the IG who has oversight over your actions.
Because of an investigation of an Obama pal. Like I said, he had the power to do so.The reasons for Obama’s actions have been listed several times in this thread, and those reasons were at the advice of many others, and were independently justified. Trump’s, not at all.
I’m sure Schiff will investigate, if he has time around making upThe statute provides a notice provision to Congress and a requirement of good grounds.
No loyalty is specifically not a good ground.
You are confusing power to fire for unqualified power to fire.
The great thing about “stories” like this is the “Trump is a dictator” crowd act even more absurdly than the “Obama is a dictator” crowd did.
Trouble is: Trump, in effect, said it. And looking the other way - don’t take him literally, has benn worn out.The great thing about “stories” like this is the “Trump is a dictator” crowd
