Let’s not string him up. Until we know all the facts we can’t judge. I personally don’t think he’s guilty. I get this sense that while he is a character, he is being unfairly treated. As someone who’s met him, I believe he is a Holy priest. His only flaw is that he has a backbone unlike most of the priests I have met. In fact, if more priests were like him maybe the Church and the world wouldn’t be in there current states.

Did you read my message just above yours? NO ONE is “stringing him up.” Everyone is praying for him. However, and it’s a big however,

He is currently disregarding a direct order to return to the SOLT community and drop his lawsuit against the woman who accused him of impropriety. That means, even if the other allegations are not true (but SOLT has said that they have more than enough evidence that the allegations ARE true), he is in disobedience to his superiors. He is indeed a priest and is therefore under authority of his order, his Bishop and the Church, whether he wants to be or not. If more priests were like him, the Church would be in a great deal of trouble. The faithful would be falling away in droves.

I would imagine that if “vows” or “promises” concern chastity, obedience and poverty, perhaps those are the 3 virtues where it has been noted that religious people are most tempted/likely to sin against… I would argue that within the context of the Catholic Church, for a priest to have a backbone without a good measure of obedience to temper it is next to worthless.

Just read the National Catholic Reporter article that had this quote.
Meanwhile, Bishop George Leo Thomas of Helena, Mont., the diocese in which Father Corapi lives, told CNS July 5 that he met with the priest only once, about five years ago, to discuss his work.
“I told him I do not allow freelancing,” Bishop Thomas said. "I want any ministry to go through my office. He never did that.
“He had a very low profile (in the diocese),” the bishop added. “To this day very little is known about him.”
I’m not sure of the timeline between when Fr Corapi moved to Montana or when Bishop Thomas came to this diocese, but it concerns be greatly that the bishop can say that in 5 years “very little” is known about Fr Corapi’s ministry and that he never met with or worked through the local bishop’s office. I had heard before that he never requested facilities to say Mass or offer other sacraments in the diocese of Helena. That is not a good sign and so sad.

I have grave doubts about what has transpired here. It is strictly one sided from SOLT’s side. It strikes me as strange as to people who sign a confidentiality contract will all of the sudden go against it and be paid for it also when she signed. Then SOLT asking Fr. Corapi not to sue her come on! What is really going on here!

The entire mess of things are sad. I don’t know who to believe in this anymore. I have not been following except a friend wanted updates. Whatever the Church decides then that is what I’ll be okay with. I am suspending judgment and instead praying for all involved.

Truly a sad situation.

God bless.

Perhaps, the Evils of Socialism talk he did before this blew up… but that is just a thought that haunts me.

Maybe I am just naieve. I think there is more to this than meets the eye. Thanks for the correction. I did not mean to say you guys were stringing him up. I just feel that we are missing some information here. He strikes me as someone who’s been put up against a wall. He’s doing some irrational things but I don’t believe his intent is evil. I have been praying for him daily in front of The Most Blessed Sacrament and I know this will turn out according to God’s will.

I am sorry but the fact is that there is some smoke coming from the Corapi corner and where there's smoke there's fire and I think something is burning.
I fear you are right.

plus he is a heretic in as much as he is no longer a priest and he is preaching anyway plus he is generalising (SP?) his topics.
In this you are not right. There is absolutely no evidence that he has embraced any heresies whatsoever. He could be found hypocritical, just as St. Peter was, for not living according to his own teaching, but that is not the same.

There is no heresy involved in talking about general topics.

There is no evidence that he has asked to be laicized.

He fell he can get back up again and beg his order to take him back and live in their residence.
I fervently pray he will do so. 👍

SInce he doesn’t want to be called Fr Corapi by his own admission (refer to his messages in the past couple of weeks), I have no problem dropping the “Father” part, personally
He does not have much choice about this. He is forbidden to do so since he was placed on leave Ash Wed.

All we know is that =
a.) he was accused

b.) he was declared to be guilty

c.) he was never given an opportunity to reply to the accusations before he was declared to be guilty of the accusations.

d.) his ministry was set up to be exactly what it is – independent living as he served. But now, SOLT has changed their internal structure to be different than it had always been.
I don’t think this is an accurate rendering. For one thing, the investigative team was not charged with the responsibility of finding him “guilty” or not. Their function was to gather and assess evidence. They unearthed sufficient evidence for SOLT to determine he is not fit for ministry. They made no “declaration” of guilt.

He has been given “opportunity” from day one, and has consistently refuesed. Even with the publication by SOLT, they are still directing him to return to the community. He has refused to submit to the canonical process, and decided to throw in the towel instead.

SOLT has been trying to get him to move in since they were able to purchase a property in Texas for the headquarters. He has consistently refused. Living with the community would have made a duplicitious life much more difficult.

Sounds to me to be a very similar pattern to cases of perfectly innocent priests having been declared guilty of a particular something (crime) with only having been accused of that crime. Weeks and months and even years go by without their having a chance to defend themselves.
Yes. Sadly, this has happened.

Meanwhile, the Devil dances. With hardly any effort at all, he's taken out another priest. Remember -- the Devil is a LIAR.
One of his favorite places to whisper lies is into the ear of the priest.
Code:
Ya know.. people can accuse. And provide what THEY consider to be proof of whatever it is that they're accusing the person of having done. Then, the accused person is considered "guilty as charged."
As far as I can tell, you are the only one here classifying him as “guilty”. This is not a word that SOLT or his bishop used.
Code:
Without the accusers being investigated, themselves, to determine whether what they're saying should be considered to be true. Then - bang! The accused is deemed to be guilty.
Even if the accusations brought by the woman are found to be spurious, there are so many other problems that at this point, it is irrelevant. The most distressing is his refusal to submit to his authorities. Innocent or guilty, this needs to be done.
Code:
I think it's the case that SOLT's "management" themselves, has rolled over!!
So you think all those things they published were not their own findings? They took bribes from someone?
Frankly, I don’t know the all facts of the case for Fr. Corapi. All I know is what I read in the news of his having been accused and condemned of whatever it is. And what I read and hear/see him say, himself, on his Website. And I hear as announced by Raymond Arroyo on The World Over.
Corapi has not submitted to the process. Fair or not, it is his duty to participate in it.
Code:
I don't blame him at all for doing anything he CAN do to defend himself.
Is that what “turn the other cheek” is all about?

…I do understand that SOLT does not, nor necessarily should, operate like a business in America according to American law.
Actually, the dioceses are moving to set up each parish as separate legal entities so that future lawsuits don’t find their way up to and including the pope for the wrong-doing of a particular priest, nun, employee, or volunteer.

Consolidating redundant threads. Please continue your discussion on one of the other Fr. Corapi threads in this sub-forum.

Thank you.
