I was utterly horrified, sickened, grieved and devastated by this inhumane murder of an innocent, exemplary life - as well as the two other men who were beheaded along with Fr. Francois Murad.

It is damnable that Obama has decided to aid the rebels, under the illusion that he can condemn Al-Nursa while supporting “moderate” elements of the opposition. This is an utterly pie-in-the-sky, fantastical, fairy-tale myth that has no grounding in reality. The rebel cause is almost entirely composed of radical Islamists now and any weapons shipped to the increasingly marginal “secular” elements will obviously fall into the hands of people like these beasts.

However, just as I would not have supported Franco and Nazi Germany in the Spanish Civil War on account of the atrocities committed by Communist elements in the Republican forces that made uncountable martyrs out of priests and religious, I likewise will not on account of these murders support Assad. He has committed crimes against humanity just like the rebels have, and I will not even begin describing Iran’s crimes.

There is no “good side” in this war. Both have unjust war aims (now that the opposition is dominated by such Sunni extremists).

I can support neither Sunni nor Shia extremists in this war, nor will I. Both sides have committed evil, just as in Spain in 1936-1939 Communists fought fascists/Nazis. I have no other words with which to describe it.

May the soul of Fr Murad and all other innocent victims who have perished in this terrible civil war whether they be Christian, Muslim or else rest in peace.

And may a peaceful, negotiated solution be found to end the bloodshed.

The Custos of the Holy Land, Father Pierbattista Pizzaballa, denied that friar Murad is one of the three people beheaded in the video, and confirmed that all the other priests in the area are still alive.
“The Custody denies news stories that claim that three Franciscan friars have been killed in Syria in the last forty-eight hours,” reads a statement. “The Custody keeps itself as informed as circumstances allow of the events in Syria and of the news of its friars who are still present there. Having received news today, Friday the 28th of June, at noon it vigorously denies these stories.”
The video was “uploaded by al-Qaida to terrorise Christians,” according to Andrea Avveduto, of the non-governmental organisation Custody of the Holy Land. “The corpse of Murad was intact. The friars in the region exclude that the priest was one of the people beheaded in the footage.”
The first user to upload the video on YouTube was SyriaTruth, a pro-Assad network that has been the mouthpiece for the Syrian regime in the last two years.
As the previous poster noted, the Franciscans deny that Fr Murad was beheaded or that any monks were killed or a monastery raided.

Whether it is or is not, my point remains that **WE CANNOT TRUST ANYTHING COMING FROM EITHER SIDE IN THIS WAR. THERE AREN’T ANY GOOD GUYS HERE PEOPLE. **

In a statement to the religious information service SIR, Father Pierbattista Pizzaballa has said the news reported by Radio France Internationale on the alleged beheading of three Franciscan monks in Syria is false.
”The monks in the region are all still alive,” said the Custos of the Holy Land. On June 24 Father Francois, ”a Catholic hermit”, had been reported dead.
The Franciscan missionaries have also placed a statement on their website:
The Custody denies news stories that claim that three Franciscan friars have been killed in Syria in the last forty-eight hours.
The Custody keeps itself as informed as circumstances allow of the events in Syria and of the news of its friars who are still present there. Having received news today, Friday the 28th of June, at noon it vigorously denies these stories.
The Custody once again strongly urges prayer and asks that all the decision makers work together toward a complete cease fire.

There is obviously something going on here.

Perhaps the monastery was struck during fighting. Fr Murad died, the other monks survived and then this fake video was created…?

From what I can gather, Fr. Murad must have died when the monastery was attacked by Sunni Islamists but the video is fake.

The reporting is so unclear…?

Fr Murad was shot dead by Syrian rebels. That is not him being beheaded in the video.

Lord have Mercy.
Christ have Mercy.

I doubt that. There are always good guys on both sides of a war.
