Wasting even a second letting your child sit in Purgatory is exponentially more uncharitable. I get that some on here value sweet words in the moment over helping the child escape from purgation onto Heaven, and I get that, but I do not, and do not what that for any loved one. Ergo why my wife and I so love having gregorian masses said for anyone who dies.

I pray for the dead all the time and have gotten Gregorian Masses for a bunch of people including one suicide. I just had to order another set today. But I still wouldn’t want to sit in a church with my dead loved one’s coffin listening to the priest talk about how they might go to Hell. If you’re the type of Catholic who is even bothering to have a funeral Mass or a Catholic service for the dead, you’re probably already sadly aware of the potential for Hell. That is why you are there at Mass.

By the way, if anyone reading this wants to get Gregorian Masses for their loved ones, CNEWA.org offers them and has a much lower suggested donation than many other orders and shrines.

I know of a young man who died from suicide when he was a senior in high school.

His Lutheran pastor told those in attendance at the service that he was in heaven in the arms of God. While I sincerely pray that he is, I also didn’t think it was a wise thing to say in front of several hundred high schoolers.

I agree with what you said about praying for the souls of everyone because we just don’t know.
