What does it mean to quote Jesus as saying the poor will be with us always - that we shouldn’t bother trying to help them? Jesus never said anything about abortion specifically - does that mean we should not be concerned about it?

Sorry, I cannot in any way agree with that-and I’m thinking nobody that lost loved ones to Osama could either.

As an Obama supporter, I’m also happy with the Ryan choice mainly because I think Ryan is a strong candidate and his inclusion on the ticket makes the parties’ ideological and visionary differences that much clearer. But make no mistake: politically, Ryan is a threat to Obama’s re-election despite what many say about his alienating the seniors’ vote. He takes some of the pressure of late off Romney with regard to his tax returns, Bain Capital record, Romneycare, etc. since people will now focus more on Ryan’s plan for Medicare. More important, Ryan adds youth, vigor, an articulate style, and a keen intelligence to the campaign. He appears to be a Jack Kemp kind of Republican. Although I still disagree with some of his proposals, I feel he has a firmer grasp of the economic issues than either Romney or Obama and should probably be at the top of the Republican ticket.
 
CBS Doesn’t Want You to Know Ryan’s Mother Is On Medicare
For some reason ‘60 Minutes’ sent out a transcript of the Romney-Ryan interview but decided not to air the portion where Paul Ryan tells Bob Schieffer his mother is a “Medicare senior in Florida.” Don’t you think this is an important piece of information considering the Democrat Party’s central line of attack against Ryan is that he “ends Medicare as we know it?”

PAUL RYAN: My mom is a Medicare senior in Florida. Our point is we need to preserve their benefits, because government made promises to them that they’ve organized their retirements around. In order to make sure we can do that, you must reform it for those of us who are younger. And we think these reforms are good reforms, that have bipartisan origins. They started from the Clinton commission in the late '90s

Romney has spoken in the most general terms – content mostly to criticize Obama’s policy choices – and has consistently avoided offering any specifics with respect to economic policy. With Ryan on the ticket, Democrats will have lots of opportunities to point to the specifics in his economic policy, which Mitt has endorsed. Ryan will solidify the Republican base but will do nothing to make Mitt more appealing to undecided voters. To the contrary, when people learn more about Ryan’s plans for entitlement programs, Mitt will lost votes.

Overall, in interviews after his selection, 38 percent of all Americans express favorable views of Ryan, 33 percent negative ones. (Before the the announcement, Ryan was somewhat underwater, scoring 23 percent favorable, 32 unfavorable.) The most recent national numbers on Vice President Joe Biden are from a July Pew Research Center poll showing a split decision, 40 percent favorable, 37 percent unfavorable.

One of the largest movements on Ryan’s favorability numbers was the 21-point jump among conservative Republicans, but the initial movement was positive among independents as well, doubling from 19 to 39 percent. The shift among Democrats was similar in both a positive (up 10 percentage points on favorability) and negative direction (up eight on unfavorability).

Before the announcement, senior citizens split 28 percent apiece positively and negatively on Ryan, but afterward his favorable number shot to 46 percent with no change on the other side of the equation. Seniors are likely to get even more outsized attention in the coming months due to Ryan’s controversial proposal to change the Medicare entitlement. A Post-Kaiser poll released over the weekend shows broad, cross-party opposition to such a change.

The Post-ABC survey included interviews with 667 randomly selected adults leading up to Saturday’s announcement, and 522 afterwards. The first three days of interviewing also included apparent GOP vice presidential contenders Ohio Sen. Rob Portman (who was unknown by nearly 60 percent of all Americans), former Minnesota governor Tim Pawlenty and Florida Sen. Marco Rubio.

Rubio – the only one of the four to rival Ryan among conservative Republicans in the early numbers – was also unknown by 45 percent of those surveyed.

Just 14 percent of conservative Republicans held “strongly favorable” views of Pawlenty before Saturday, well below the 36 percent who did so of Rubio and also below Ryan’s 24 percent. (Ryan’s “strong” number leapt to 44 percent after his selection.)

Oh PUH-LEASE. Why can’t the Left use the word deduction? Big oil gets no “subsidies” in the manner of Solyndra or ethanol. The companies can deduct the business expenses associated with their company’s operations. Just like Apple gets deductions or just like G.E. Funny how no one talks about Obama’s pal Imelt getting “subsidies” that avoid taxes. A double standard! Shocked, I’m SHOCKED I tell you.

The Left is either lying or just plain ignorant. I heard a Senator talking about “income taxes” on gifts. DUH…funny how they don’t even know basic concepts. And these are the people who are supposed to run the country?

Maybe you don’t know but Ryan was “raised” by Jack Kemp at Empower America. He (Kemp) and Bill Bennett were two of Ryan’s earliest mentors.

While I cannot fathom why anyone who sounds so intelligent and is so articulate in expressing your opinions, would vote for Obama, I have to give you credit for not being a hidebound partisan hack like so many Obama supporters. I see their noses growing during every interview.

Please tell me what Obama has done to engender your support? As a fiscal and social conservative I consider him the worst president since Woodrow Wilson. He has the integrity of Nixon and the ability of Carter…sorry I just don’t get it but I hope you will take this seriously and explain. Thank you

If pro-lifers were really concerned about life issues, they’d be promoting politicians like Bart Stupak, who not only was against abortion, but also scored really high on pro-environment votes. (He and his family also received death threats instead, supposedly from such “pro-lifers.”)

Methinks Romney/Ryan supporters care less about life issues and more about paying less taxes, stiffing the poor and sick, and poisoning the water and air so as to guaratee low fuel prices.
