Well, I used to donate to PBS, but now they have the same stupid and annoying commercials, so I wouldn’t donate to them any more than I’d donate to ABC now.
For the most part, I’m seeing a decline in their programming. I like The Antique Roadshow, Travels with Rick Steves, Town & Country, Liberty’s Kids, Magic School Bus (last 2 aren’t airing anymore), The Red Green Show. Nature and Nova have their moments at times too. My kids rarely watch any tv at all and none of the sugary-sapey-sweet kiddie drivel like Seseme Street or Arthur. Heaven forbid the worst offenders like Teletubbies! Goodness that stuff is mind-numbing! If prisoners had to watch it they’d be certain to never repeat their crimes!
NPR is interesting because I do find I get a much different perspective there than on, oh let’s say, NBC. However, it varies on whether it’s factual or comprehensive or objective. Some of the time I find it merely amusing, other times interesting, other times annoying. It’s a nice conversation starter I suppose. I like it mostly because it’s radio medium. We don’t keep a tv in the main area of the house and only use it to tape certain shows to watch later. NPR is a nice quick info gram while making breakfast or driving hubby to work.
As for government funding. I find this interesting because the government funds so much more through our media sources that NPR really is nothing more than a drop in the bucket.
I should say that my perspective may be different because the main reason we “got rid of” the tv wasn’t the actual shows. It was those blasted commercials!
I know what shows to avoid, but those sneaky, nasty, ignorant commercials just couldn’t be avoided!

Good one! But I was refering to summer. I should have made that clear. It wasn’t much of a job to get me to school, my dad worked at a sawmill and I had no desire to do that kind of work in South Georgia so I realized early on that I needed an education.What a lucky guy you were!
