I left because my mom needed to go home. She had a doctor’s appointment in the morning and couldn’t be out all night. And she can’t drive at night, she’s blind at night. Don’t assume I left out of being impatient.

I agree with Irishmom. Your anger seems very out-of-place.

No offense, but if it had been me, I would have stayed until the bitter end of it meant my mom could be prayed over.

You were at Mass with the Blessed Sacrament. You could have spent those 2 or 3 hours in prayer for her, saying a Rosary or Divine Mercy or other prayers. Or just enjoyed the extra time with Jesus. Or joined in prayer for all of the suffering people there who needed healing.

I understand your frustration, but you would have been better served offering up that frustration to God and focusing on why you were there in the first place.

Have you ever been to one of these masses before? You in effect, allotted a half hour for your mom to be healed. There is no way that was going to happen.

No I never have. My diocese rarely has them. And we did sit in the front. We got there an hour early so that my mom could be prayed over. We got there around 530, the mass began at 630. The flyer said 630-900. How was I supposed to know when she’d be able to get healed or not. Why are you accusing me

No one is accusing you. But when someone comes on here and is venting and upset about something, most of us are curious to know the facts about what happened.

I’m sorry you were both disappointed. I hope you make an appointment soon for your mom to have the Anointing of the Sick. I will say a prayer for her healing.

That’s not what happened here. Many of the people who cut were young and not sickly. They cut people in wheelchairs
I understand your frustration, but not all illnesses are visible. I have a chronic illness and I’ve attended healing masses. By looking at me, you would never know that I have an issue.

A similar thing happened at the local Roman Catholic church here which has a marker behind which you are supposed to stand while waiting for confession. It is set a certain distance from the confessional for privacy of the penitent. Well, a few people came late and cut in front of us who had been standing in line waiting for confession. When we showed them the plaque indicating the front of the line, they just shrugged and ignored us, and entered in the booth ahead of everyone else.

I’ve never been to a healing Mass. But now that I’ve heard some about them…they sound awful, thanks for the warning. I wouldn’t want to be at Walmart when they open the doors on black Friday either.

Please, do not assume they are all like this, because they aren’t.

Well…convince me.
I’ve been to several (even in midtown Manhattan) and I’ve never experienced anything like the OP and his mother did. There seems to have been some very poor planning on the part of the organizers.

What bothered me the most is that the ushers didn’t even do their job as ushers. They all were standing around laughing and talking in front of the blessed sacrament. When I finally got up there I told them to tell these people to move back so that the ones who were here first can go or at least be able to get out of their pews they just dismissed me.

I mean fine, if they don’t want to deal with a huge crowd of people then don’t be an usher

For the record I’m not against people wanting to be healed. But hey this isn’t Black Friday. Can we be all form neat lines and respect those who came first? And let’s not crowd around the pews while people are trying to get out of the pews. Serious fire hazard

Same for me, Denise. Orderly. Row by row. Ushers catching people and laying them down as they fell. Not everyone fell, but everyone was prayed over. 2 priests from our parish also prayed over people with the same results as the visiting priest. He explained that all priests can do what he did, there is nothing “special” about him. It is the prayer and the presence of God, not the man, that heals.

That sounds nice. This is like the first time I’ve even heard of a healing mass near where I live.

The guy in the healing ministry should have brought a healing ministry team with him (which is also done in my country) so that no one was left without individual prayer ministry.
And someone should have been in charge of making sure this was done in an orderly manner. Somebody seriously dropped the ball here, and I don’t blame @SacredHeartBassist a bit for being upset.
