Look, the Church is not harmed by infertility. It is harmed by contraception.
It also occurs to me that “we don’t want children” or “we don’t want children yet” may actually mean “my spouse doesn’t want children/doesn’t want children yet” but the speaker doesn’t wish to throw their spouse under the bus.I see where we got our wires crossed. I’m not saying that people should be able to contracept. I’m saying that just because you are talking to someone who says that they don’t want kids doesn’t mean a) that they contracept or b) that they actually really don’t want kids.
I was thinking in terms of the original post and what we should do when people say they don’t want kids. There conversation probably spun off from there and you were responding to a different train of thought. I apologize for jumping the gun there.
It’s not that great for those marriages, either, when it’s such a fundamental issue.Oh, yes… lots of those cases in our Church!
Is that not harmful to the Church?
