Perpetual eucharistic adoration

Not to be contentious, but didn’t saints ‘speak up’ to their bishops and even to the Pope on occasion, when necessary? I’m wondering where we’d be if St. Catherine of Siena or St. Teresa of Avila had just sat back passively in the face of difficulties. . .
:amen: Thank you for showing your concern! :clapping:

Also not to be contentious, but if Tantum Ergo spoke up to his bishop or to Rome,
then that’s a worthwhile show of concern. Otherwise … ?

Otherwise what? I dont think it’s wrong to point out an error on the internet. If nobody does then who will protect the Eucharistic adoration? Catholics NEED to! And should every chance they get! 👍 Otherwise we sin!

But, not so much time and energy that you didn’t find the time to disparage other Catholics for their lack of humility, apparently.

I know I have to go to Confession over getting this ‘worked up’ over a priest I never heard of before, and suspect that this will be a recurring theme for me this year of the priesthood. 😦

I am SO fed up of everyone complaining, and publicly bashing priests and bishops, for any reason…and I feel most upset when it is a Catholic that is doing it. That video clip really bothered me! I wish I could listen to his point without all the emotional ‘buttons’… But I did say, that I didn’t mean to just pick on him, it’s just that he was the one doing the presentation on video. Any of us, when we forget that we all make mistakes that are just that -mistakes.

As for priests…
We NEED the priesthood! There is NO other way to get the Sacraments or the Liturgy of the Mass. If on the optional things, they digress, God will take care of bringing them back to order, or at least their bishop. But it is GOD who is in charge of a priest. God is in charge…we can trust Him! We can state disagreement…without all the disrespect though.

If we are offended or worried, maybe offering a prayer for priests would be useful. Temptations come in different forms, some are physical, some are intellectual, but we must stand behind our priests, especially publicly. They are being attacked enough by outsiders that we should also turn on them. WHO absolves us when WE make mistakes?

WHAT do we have to gain from publicly opposing them? WHO benefits from a divided Church? Of course, as long as we are not speaking of matters of doctrine or dogma…and I haven’ t checked the other links, just the one the OP put initially for this specific thread.

I didn’t make any comments on the veracity of Voris’ claims, comments or his credentials. 🤷
Sorry, I misunderstood you. I thought you said you should listen to it more because you liked his bashing… Maybe you didn’t mean anything like this. Sorry!

Apparently, he has years of education behind him, he should present himself with the ‘air of respect’ that is due to the subject matter he is presenting. I am sure that he believes he is doing the right thing…I disagree with a passion…even if we were on the same page with the devotionals that the priest disagrees with.

I know I offended his friend, and I apologized because I did not mean to offend her at all! I do feel that if someone goes forth publicly to bash another, then he should be open to be bashed in turn…sounds fair?
Feel free to bash me in turn, but I still will defend any priest who has not meant harm [he also thinks he is doing the right thing] nor goes against doctrine nor dogma, and whose authority has not been revoked…[even then, his priesthood would make me respect him, I think…]

Maybe, but where is St. Catherine here? Which one of us is the saint?
Not me! 😦

I also recall St. Joan of Arc obeying a rather ‘not nice’ bishop of sorts, knowing he was in the wrong. Most Catholic movies, and this amazes me, show how the superiors of saints were ‘less than right or charitable’ most of the time, but the saints submitted to them in humility and obedience, because that is the right thing to do.

Our Church is NOT democratic. It is very hierarchical, and has definite chains of command. This system has worked for over 2 millenia; still works today. It needs time to work because everyone must be careful to be fair. Misunderstanding lead to injustice.

The quote originated from NCR. That speaks for itself.
I’m certain that God Almighty protects Eucharistic adoration.
Through His grace, we do the same.

Yet, rarely does anyone choose to quote anything from NCR on this site.
One statement of disagreement might be more than enough.
Take a look at Post # 3.
It might be sufficient in itself.

If you think this is a noble obligation to “defend any priest who has not meant harm” then that is your objective.
Mine is to defend and strengthen the Church. 😉 It is my personal mission. We all as Catholics should adhere to our missions and talents that God gave us.

You also state that “his priesthood would make me respect him, I think…” So is ones priesthood a greater vocation to that of a married man or woman. We are all still the Catholic Church. Right? We cant let the modern watering-down of marriage and Catholic traditions weaken the Catholic Church.

Thats exactly it! Since none of us are Saints, we should not oppose Church traditions. But we can and ought to speak up when we see inconsistency! We can and should be heard as we are all part of the Catholic Church.

And he reduced the sacramental life to the Eucharist.

Theologians are not infallible, and when they do dissent the faithful have the duty to call them on it.
I’m curious to the above mentioned post ‘Catholic Culture’. Nowhere is this post on this thread and the poster ‘Catholic Culture’ doesn’t exist on CAF. Where did you reference the info on it about Father McBrien?

O.K. Agreed. But what about those who continue to sympathize with this and advocate the idea that it is a “step backwards”? It is clearly not! Promoting this idea, in my opinon, hurts the Church. Shouldnt we help them to understand? Should’nt we do this as an act of charity.

Of course. Address such individuals, in the interest of charity and justice.

Me too - I have no reference point to “Catholic Culture.”

Catholicculture.org was linked earlier in the thread, this information is at the end of their article on Fr McBrien.

If your mission is to attack a priest, then I doubt your mission is to ‘strengthen’ the Church? Seems contradictory…

Can you absolve me of my sins at the moment of death? Can you consecrate the Host so that I may ADORE it? Fr. McBrien can…even if that is not his intent.

Of course. Address such individuals, in the interest of charity and justice.
No I meant posters. Here on CAF. We should tell them (the posters) who believe Fr. McBrien, and lead them back onto the right path. That is charity and justice and Love.

We can also address the ideas, as not engaging on as important an issue is to surrender the field.

Posters post here as individuals.
You (an individual) can address any poster (an individual.).

Charity and love are used as the same word often, in Catholic teaching.
Your distinction of charity and love means what to you?

(Imagining a “we” and a “them” is too great a leap for me.)

I never meant that we cannot ‘speak up’ in disagreement…that would be ‘totalitarianism’…

I simply say, do NOT publicly bash, nor ridicule, nor accuse of ‘heresy’ someone rightfully ordained as a Catholic priest, even if you disagree and sincerely think you are right and they are wrong…especially on optional matters…and even on doctrine or dogma [speak up with respect] but know that we DO have a hierarchical system that works VERY well and that is guided by the HS!..as well as a promise that the ‘gates of Hell will not prevail against the church’!

Nor do any of the above to a theologian, who may have half his facts accurately and the other half ‘not so accurately’…that even happened to our Doctors of the Church!

I already posted that I personally disagree with his opinions because I pray the Rosary and Divine Mercy Chaplet DAILY in front of the Blessed Sacrament in a Perpetual Adoration Chapel …for years! That is sufficient. No bashing nor accusing nor ridiculing needed… In fact, I’ll pray for him on my next visit! 😃

I am not attacking the priest directly, only some of the things he says openly. Which other priests would agree are not true. How can we have one priest say one thing and the others say another. That is inconsistant and counterproductive.
I cannot tolerate these kinds of things and neither should you.

As a married man I can reproduce and father a child. This does not make me better than Fr. McBrien, and his talents make him no better than me. We are all good. And our works are what counts in God’s eye.
