The public schools here are absolutely abysmal. Oregon has the shortest school year than any other state and, because of budget trouble, they are think of shortening it further by 25 days!
Oregon public school students score lower on standardized tests than every other state except Mississippi.
And then there is the mandatory homosexual education starting in the 3rd grade.
Public schools in rural areas, especially in central and eastern Oregon, actually seem to do a better job of actually teaching kids.
If you are going to live in the Portland, Salem, Eugene, Medford areas, I would avoid public schools there like the plague.
There are some excellent private and Catholic schools and many parishes have tuition assistance. There are also some very good home-schooling support groups.
