Indeed. Justice Kennedy inserted something similar into his opinion in the Casey decision:

“At the heart of liberty is the right to define one’s own concept of existence, of meaning, of the universe, and of the mystery of human life.”

Some conservatives might even like this idea. The ultimate freedom is the freedom to ignore reality, to decide for yourself, to go against reality itself. It is the ultimate in subjectivism, and it leads to legal and social chaos.
It can be a very seductive proposal!

Yes, there are many Catholics who believe that State sanctioned gay ‘marriage’ is okay, but they don’t think the Catholic Church needs to approve of it.

As far as women priests, once you have women priests you really accelerate the female dominated tendency of churches. I think there’s more a practical reason for reserving the priesthood for men. I was going to a tiny Episcopal Church that had a woman pastor, and basically, no men were even attending anymore, save one husband of one of the ladies.

You do understand that the Church IS NOT a political entity,don’t you?
You do understand that in the Catholic Faith we have Sacred Tradition,Sacred Scripture,Deposit of Faith.
You do understand that the truths and teachings of our faith are God’s Truth,we cannot bend them to suit the whims of society.
ThevCatholic Church has survived for over 2,000 years.There are now over 38,000 plus Christian faiths,this because somebody,starting with Luther thought they had a better plan than Christ.
Poor cathechesis,is what causes these poorly informed responses from those who identify as Catholics,…
Well, I’m not going to respond to everything you are throwing at me in that rant-esqe post. I don’t see what the Reformation has anything to do with what I said. 🤷

I do not see the gay marriage debate as a “religious” or “Catholic” issue. The Vatican can teach and approve what it wants like it always has, and churches should be FREE to define marriage as a union only between a man and a woman.

It becomes problematic when traditionalists try to deny others the legal protections under the state that they claim for their own. Period. It really is that simple. You don’t have to agree with homosexuality. You don’t have to like it, but don’t try to deny equal protections under the state to others based on personal religious convictions.
 
Not surprising. A lot of people have many positive interactions with kind and loving gay friends, co-workers, relatives. These temper their opinions. It’s difficult to be too hard hearted when it’s personal like that.
You are right, it is hard to be hard of heart. At one time the church excommunicate a person for believing the earth was not the centre of the universe. Today, science is providing pretty good evidence homosexuality is innate and are teaching might adapt as it has to other scientific facts - Time will tell. Regardless, we are all called to love others and not judge individuals as that is Christ’s job on his return.
 
Nothing from that link refutes the poll. Again, small samples can be extrapolated, but have a margin of error to 95%. There is a 95% chance that the number is between 48% and 58% of weekly-Mass Catholics. Just saying “oh no there’s only 392 total, that’s such a small number,” as Donahue does, shows an ignorance for statistics. Use the statistics as encouragement for better catechesis; don’t deny them.

Also, as for the comment on “lumping together” non-weekly-Mass Catholics, that doesn’t affect the 48-58% number at all, regardless of its accuracy as an argument.
It would be interesting to have them poll our clergy given that between 30 - 50% are gay depending on their geographic setting. Because their averages are so much higher than the general population, I would assume their support for homosexuality would also be greater. At least most Catholic theologians believe the issue, along with birth control and the role of women needs to be looked at again.

The results would be interesting. They should also poll younger millennial Catholics. I suspect a majority would support marriage equality.

It’s not churches that have defined marriage as between one man and one woman – it’s an inherent law of nature. Defying it leads to a severe disruption of the common good, as it leads to the unhappiness of those in homosexual relationships themselves, in addition to misraising of children; AND the more it becomes recognized, the more and more discrimination against Christians will be the norm.

Therefore the government should not recognize gay ‘marriage’. Any Christian who advocates that it does, will be held accountable before almighty God.

It doesn’t matter if homosexuality is innate or learned.

The tendency to commit adultery may well have genetic causes; that still wouldn’t make it right.

Marriage equality was achieved a generation ago, when the last vestiges of discrimination against interracial couples was abolished.

The false “equality” that secularists seek today is nothing more than a slogan to endorse a sex-centered lifestyle. No love, no accountability, no truth: just maximum sexual pleasure. If marriage is twisted to refer to a non-reproductive institution then it is thoroughly meaningless, and the injustices against people who resist the tidal wave is only beginning.

I’m not judging, I’m quoting what I read in the Bible, we judge people everyday, courts of law do it etc; only God judges a soul, Priests administer advice in the Confessional, Jesus told the woman, "go away and sin no more " that’s not judging, it’s correcting and directing her along the narrow road.

There is zero evidence for that “fact”.

No Catholic theologians in good standing believe any of those things need to be looked at again. All are settled doctrine.

Homosexual relations and artificial contraception are intrinsically wrong. The ordination of women is an impossibility.

The Church teaches these things, and has always taught these things. No one has any authority to change them. Not a Pope, not a Council.

Anyone who attempted to change them would be committing heresy, and would vacate their ecclesiastical office.

Very prophetic that “lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God” immediately precedes “holding the form of religion but denying the power of it”.

Your thumbs up at the original post led me to believe that you are on board with female priests,SSmarriage,etc.Now if I misunderstood and you don’t support those issues as a faithful Catholic,then I apologize.

You mentioned homosexuality and contraception. Interesting that you didn’t also mention abortion, since that’s the ultimatum of the secular lifestyle which eschews any personal obligations or responsibility vis-a-vis contraception and homosexual ‘marriage’.
