Would you seriously equate your Catholicism to a Rotary Club membership? If so, why? If not, why make that comparison with his Christianity?
I ask again. Unless someone believe there something inherently wrong with being a Muslim why would they care if people thought Obama is a Muslim? I have yet to get an answer to this and as many have pointed out it very much reminds me of the famous Seinfeld episode.

Not that there’s anything wrong with that! Now I have images of George and Kramer in my head. I need to go grab my complete Seinfeld DVD collection and dig in! 😃

I have repeatedly answered you but you seem to be looking for some other answer than what lies in my heart! Don’t you think the desire for truth is adequate reason to care what people believe…about Obama’s faith…about anything of consequence? Should I desire instead that people cling to a lie? Should I be indifferent to it?

P.S. Since you seem stuck to this question, maybe I should redirect it to you: is there anything inherently wrong in the President being a Muslim? Personally, other than the fact that some among us would restrict how near Ground Zero he could worship, I would have no problem with him being one.

Insisting on the truth and on respect for someone’s publicly stated faith is “some libs work”? Excuse me while I dust off my copy of the catechism…
Instead of addressing my post, you accuse me of subverting truth.

Add that to my list

Many libs cannot accept the fact the righties don’t search for truth

I respect Obama’s publicly stated profession that he is a Christian. If he thinks he’s a Christian, so be it. LDS think they’re Christian too. Just doesn’t fit my definition of a Christian. Doesn’t fit the Catechism’s either. I just don’t believe he acts like a Christian. That is my personal opinion. You claim that I am not seeking truth if I tell you I don’t think he acts like a Christian. In fact I am seeking truth. I told you he is not a Muslim by my definition of a Muslim, as another poster said, Obama believes among other things,

the right to abortion

the dignity of women

gay rights
.

These are all Muslim tenets.

BTW, I don’t have to dust off my Catechism. 😛

If beingMuslim is totally benign no one should care. The fact the Left is so outraged over this belief shows deep seated prejudice against Muslims, IMO.

Whoa, whoa, whoa. Let’s not get all confused here: I was responding initially (in this present round of back and forth) to a poster who categorically stated that she believed he was lying when he said he was a Christian. You’re more than welcome to jump in the fray, but my statements about insisting on truth as opposed to the blatant opposite, were mainly directed at her viewpoint, not at you.

I have noticed that the more controversial the statement, the more aptly rebutted, the more likely the response and subsequent posts are to be taken up and championed by someone other than the one who started the controversy; whatever makes everyone happy I suppose…

If anyone is interested in truth, we all should care…Oops! There I go again with that truth thing - sorry I realize we’re talking ideology here, silly me.

Of course they shouldn’t care but they’re political animals. This mosque thing is a feeding frenzy for all. Republicans are going to seize on emotions and anger and outrage from 9 years ago and ignore the religious freedoms they constantly claim to fight for and the Democrats are playing their usual “sympathy for the underdog” stuff I spoke of in a previous post. The Dems want Obama to “look” Christian to the public; it’s an image thing. The majority of voters are Christian, not Muslim. It’s all about demographics. Like the way Bush pandered to Hispanics and the way Democrats pander to them being anti-Arizona law. The Democrats, as I stated earlier, disagree with almost everything about Islam: abortion, feminism, gay rights, faith, war, you name it. HOWEVER, they perceive the Muslims as being the poor, misunderstood, trapped-in-a corner minority shaking and shivering while the white majority persecutes them supposedly. This instinct Dems have to pull for the underdog kicks in and they ignore what Islam stands for.

Both parties are willing to set aside their values here: the GOP claims to love religious liberties. Obviously not for Muslims. The Dems claim to be pro-choice, pro-gay marriage, pro-feminism, etc. yet they’ll now pull for Muslims.

As usual, my assessment is that they’re BOTH hypocrites and the reason why our country is on the path to destruction is that we jump back and forth putting our hopes in far left loons and ‘mama grizzlies.’🤷

Presidents’ get called liars all the time. The degree of outrage from the Left about this ,however , indicates there is far more involved here than just an accusation of him being a liar,

Interesting take on the issue and you are right in much of your analysis of the politics of religion. My take on the issue is more personal: I hate to be lied about and I hate to see others lied about - especially on a Catholic forum before the whole world - it’s as simple as that. Let them try some other tactic and we can slug it out, but the attempt to make the president a Muslim just so he can become part of the “other” which is okay to beat up on, is just not kosher.

Who’s calling who liar? You seem a mite confused. If I accused someone of lying it was certainly not the president. I have no basis on which to accuse him of lying about his faith.

… It follows the argument that we ought not to oppose Muslims on any given issue, for it will drive some Muslims to extremism and violence.
ROFL …

That reminds me what my dear departed father, addicted to nicotine, would tell my mom when she “nagged” him about his smoking, especially after discovering hole burns in his clothes. “It’s because you drive me to smoke!” All of us children would laugh, including both of them, because the whole family gets the humor, the ridiculousness of the argument.

But going to the point in the OP: Obama supporters find something sinister at play, not humor, with the conundrum that he himself caused, with actions that do not match his words, at least when it comes to his identified faith as a Christian. During his campaign to be president, he took on without apology the reality of his Muslim middle name and background. He came across as honest and genuine, which impressed a lot of voters, including Christians, as election results show. Perception is reality there.

It is puzzling that people now get upset that he is rumored to be a Muslim, following his recent statements and actions favoring Islam and Muslims. Perception is reality here.

It is possible he is conflicted, and it is also possible, with our secular society moving away from religion, that he is also not just the religious type, and would be happy to find and practice one that suits him, a one-size-fits-all religion for political purposes. How sad, if true.

 He was supposed to apologize for using his given name?? So what exactly happened to increase the numbers who think he’s Muslim - did they get the memo late?

Where I come from, Christians whose actions do not match up to their words go by such names as: lapsed ----------- (fill in the blank with the denomination), non-practicing ----------, or even hypocrite ----------. I have never seen such Christians referred to as Muslims, have you?

He publicly practices no Faith. When you give people a blank slate they tend to come to all sorts of different conclusions.

As to Obama “practicing no faith” in the public eye: Obama has mentioned Jesus and God more times in his speeches from 2007-2010 than George W. Bush did in his speeches between 2000-2008. Obama’s not putting religion into his policies is him being a politician faithful to the 1st Amendment, which is separation of Church and State.

‘my muslim faith’

more on ‘his muslim faith’ and ‘I know because I am one’ and a clip where he’s citing the Holy Quran…

THAT one is fox news with his brother talking about how Obama is a muslim, and has a pic of them…all in muslim dress. ((shrug))

Yeah, I guess your right…if someone keeps repeating a message over and over…
#1: I’ve read Obama’s books, heard many of his speeches. So I know his manner of speaking and the way he phrases his ideas. So I know that when he says “My Muslim faith”, he doesn’t mean it the same way I’d mean it when I say “My Catholic faith”. He means it as a heritage. His grandfather was Muslim, his father was Muslim (but became Atheist according to his book “Dreams from My Father”), and his father’s other children are mostly Muslim. So his “Muslim faith” is simply the customs of Islam that his father’s side of the family follows.

#2: Same thing as above

#3: “Muslim dress”? Are you kidding me? There is no such thing as “Muslim dress” besides the Hijab that Muslimahs (Muslim women) wear. He was dressed in traditional Kenyan clothes right there, and that photo was when he was in Africa visiting his Kenyan brothers, sisters, uncles, and cousins. And most of his brothers and sisters wouldn’t know a thing about him seeing as to how he’s only spoken to them and seen them once in his entire 49 year life. Only one sister of his would know him, and that’s his Indonesian sister because they grew up together.

He’s named after his father. His father’s middle name (Hussein) comes from his father’s father’s first name (Hussein Obama). “Barack” is a Swahili name that comes from the Arabic “Mubarak”, meaning “Blessed”. His mother named him after his father because his father left them after he was born, so she wanted something to remember him by. You can’t blame a man for being named after his father.

Is he under some sort of obligation as president to openly practice his faith? I know Catholics who rarely go to Church, some for good reason, are they open to having their religious identities unilaterally reassigned?

Maybe his fault lies in having the “audacity” to be fathered at all…😉

 He was supposed to apologize for using his given name?? …
Seekerz, you get yourself so worked up. No, Obama spoke very well, showing he did not have to apologize for his middle name, which his detractors were using against him unfairly, to help Obama’s opponent pull to the lead during the campaign. Everyone agrees, including people who did not vote for him, that he ran a good campaign.

I think Obama is one of those people with double faces.
In public he acts like a Christian, but from the inside he behave as a Muslim…

He’s talking about how the left constantly called Bush a liar, and even photo-shopped pictures of him to make him look stupid.
