Pope’s climate views press Catholic candidates

I would think he’s pandering more to the right wing evangelicals with this.

The left were never going to vote for Jeb Bush anyway.
Actually the question was designed to give political cover to Democrat Catholic who will , as always, be looking for rationalizations as why they vote to support unspeakable evil . And given the mainstream media does not ask questions about the Popes views on other issues to Democrat candidates the game they are playing here is quite apparent

Much like they ignored the Pope’s views on economic policy, they will ignore what the Pope has to say about the environment…
Aside from general statements about the objectives that are the proper end of a fair economic system, there really is little one should expect from a papal view of economic policy. I’m pretty sure that’s more the purview proper to economists. The same is true of statements on the environment. A discussion of goals and of our obligation to care for the environment do not translate into specific proposals in how to achieve those goals.

I am reasonably familiar with arguments for and against AGW, and quite literally nothing the pope says on the subject will matter for the simple reason that my position is based on my understanding of the science involved. I may well be wrong. My understanding of the science may be entirely backwards, but unless a better scientific justification can be presented, why should I accept that what now appears scientific nonsense has suddenly become scientific fact because the Vatican has taken a position on the matter? If papal pronouncements cannot make the sun circle the Earth they cannot validate AGW.
… conveniently voting for the party they claim is pro-life but is really good at cutting taxes and starting foreign wars.
The worst part about arguments like this is not their casual nastiness but their utter irrelevance. My position is either right or wrong, and it doesn’t become wrong because I support it for mendacious reasons. Even if your charge was accurate it would no less meaningless.

No need to throw stones at Mr. Bush over this issue. Whether we agree or not with him or Pope Francis, the vast majority of us in some respects are “cafeteria Catholics” as we pick and choose what Church teachings we wish to accept.

God Bless and Peace to all.

I wonder if the mainstream media will now start asking Democrat candidates whether they will accept the Popes advice on abortion and , homosexual marriage. Or how about asking Hillary Clinton “Knowing what you know now do you still support the right of your daughter to have aborted the grandchild you love so much ?”

In the past we have heard dire warnings about not voting for Catholics because they will take orders from Rome. Now they’re criticizing Catholic candidates because they won’t !. And thus is the bizzaro world of the modern American left
They will use any stuck available to beat on a republican.

That being said, Jeb is probably one of the worst republicans in the primary.

MMGW isn’t a “Church teaching” though.

Suppose the Pope gives some good advice on climate change? The encyclical hasn’t been released yet. How hard would it have been to withhold comment until the report is actually released? I’m ambivalent about Bush’s candidacy, but this seems like an unforced error to me.

So which advice is he speaking of?

The advice actually given by the pope or the advice the media claims the pope to have given?

Experience has taught me that the media has a difficult time reporting fact where the pope is concerned.

But during this election season liberals will swear it is 11th Commandment
Yes, an encyclical (from the Greek egkyklios, kyklos meaning a circle) is nothing more than a circular letter. In modern times, usage has confined the term almost exclusively to certain papal documents which differ in their technical form from the ordinary style of either Bulls or Briefs, and which in their superscription are explicitly addressed to the patriarchs, primates, archbishops, and bishops of the Universal Church in communion with the Apostolic See.

However, your above statement pretty much sums up what some Catholic voters (if they even take this issue serious) will use as justification how they vote.

God Bless and Peace to all.

But if these folks waited, they wouldn’t have all this Pope-bashing fun! 😦

The world is a bigger than the US and climate change isn’t considered political in many parts of the world. It is simply seen as fact. The Pope is addressing the worlds faithful, not interfering in US politics.
That is precisely it. 👍

MMGW is a religion all it’s own. When data/reality don’t match the religion it must be modified to fit the faith. If the thermometers don’t show the warming that must be there according to MMGW, it’s the thermometers that are wrong- not the theory.

Except that the evidence you say is not there really is there if you look at it.

Evidence that the stock market is going to crash very soon is there too, if you look at it. Also that it’s going to improve. Also that it will neither crash nor improve. And every promoter of every view of it has his statistics to prove it.

You mention the list on your list.

That’s just silly.

Get the Bishops to release your list and I will give it some gravitas.
That’s like saying, “get an imprimatur for every post you make.” Shall we hold you to the same standard?

I’m willing to accept that there is evidence on both sides of this question, but apparently styrgwillidar is not willing to concede even that much.

Who can deny that we live in a crazy world? It’s issue after issue after issue… Much better if we ignore these crazy political issues and better prepare ourselves for Heaven.

The “faith vs good works” argument has been going on ever since St. Paul talked about it.
