If the encyclical talks about taking care of the planet and reducing pollution, that is good stewardship, which is entrusted to man, this is a moral issue. If the encyclical claims that global warming/climate change/climate disruption/etc is a reality, then it is giving mere opinion and speculation. So tell me again why an encyclical on responsible stewardship of creation, proper respect for the environment and on the need to protect the earth (our common home) for future generations, does not fall under ‘morals’?
Climate change and related environmental concerns, other than say fracking, is not a politicized left-right partisan issue in many other countries as it appears to be in the U.S. Why would the pope not use the scientific consensus on the dangers facing humanity vis-a-vis our abuse of the environment and fossil fuels, to elucidate these moral truths for today’s generation? This is what the church has always done.
It’s sad that this isn’t more of an issue in other parts of the world, because it should be. More Catholics should wake up and recognize who they are laying down in bed with. The people promoting this are socialists and others in favor of population “control”.
