In these times, it seems like the ‘Great Accuser’ has been unchained and is attacking bishops. True, we are all sinners, we bishops. He tries to uncover the sins, so they are visible in order to scandalize the people.

Anyways, this news article bothers me, because it sounds like Pope Francis is saying that trying to get to the bottom of the abuse crisis (“uncover the sins”) is the work of the “Great Accuser”, who it seems clear from the rest of the article is implied to be Satan…
A bishop’s strength against the ‘Great Accuser’ is prayer, that of Jesus and his own
What other entity could be “unchained,” and would bishops need to pray “against”?

And to be clear, if Pope Francis said “lie and exaggerate about claims,” that would be one thing. But no, he said “uncover the sins.” Reveal actual wrongdoing.

Is this meant to suggest that those calling for transparency are doing the will of Satan? 😦

Yes, this makes me very sad to read. These are very confusing times we live in. Very, very disturbing. So disappointed. Where do we go from here? Please, Lord Jesus, light a path for us. It is so hard to navigate all this through the darkness.

So let me get this straight… Satan tries to uncover the sins, so they are visible in order to scandalize the people. Does this then make those bishops who covered the sins so as not to scandalize others to be saints?

This just seems extraordinarily tone-deaf, to put it mildly.

If I was cynical I would say it’s a set up for and an indicator of the direction of a more public statement on certain accusations against high ranking clerics.

The Holy Father is right. You cannot go wrong with prayers. In an important matter such as this, our mind should be immersed in prayers, to allow God to speak to us.

Let our action be dictated in the atmosphere and mindset of prayers. It is true that the enemy, Satan, would attack the Bishops, and being the Deceiver, he can be very subtle with his trick and deception.

Only prayers can we be steadfast and to fight against the Evil One.

I don’t understand what he is saying at all. That it is wrong to uncover sin? Is he saying that bishops should cover up abuse? Very sad remarks by our Pope.

Read his words carefully, read them a bunch of times. The English translation loses some flavor:

My interpretation:

All humans are sinners and have fault - including Bishops. Perhaps investigations should have gone deeper, instead of trusting certain Priests or Bishops. Perhaps people who could have stopped abuse were negligent in their duties but not necessarily accomplices.

So now satan DRAGS THESE SINS KICKING AND SCREAMING into the DARKNESS of the internet and the court of public opinion, which causes a firestorm of JUDGEMENT and ACCUSATION (with or without merit).

Which causes ALL KINDS OF SIN to be unleashed.

Have you read the comments of message boards and here? THE LINES FOR CONFESSION should be 12 miles long at all churches.

yes I am yelling the all caps parts.

Pope Francis’ homily was nuanced. which is lost on most, including me at the start.

So here’s what I see as satan’s influence in this mess.
  1. influencing the original offenders to sin via pornography and destruction of moral virtues via sexual revolution.
  2. influencing whistle blowers to have agendas
  3. influencing Catholics to leave the faith or turn on their faith and leaders
  4. influencing others to sin and sin often on Catholic Social Media.
The original human criminals are guilty, as are anyone who covered up for them. But GUESS WHAT? Jesus died for them to, news flash THEY CAN BE FORGIVEN. But not by social media.

I would like to believe that you are correct; however, I believe you are mistaken. The pope’s homily on Monday was brilliant, and then this “Great Accuser” homily on Tuesday… The pope should become familiar with Eph 5:11-13 “Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead EXPOSE them. For it is shameful even to speak of the things that they do in secret. But when anything is exposed by the light, it becomes visible…” it appears to be the job of the holy ones to expose sin. Or how about 1 Tim 5:19-20 “Do not admit a charge against a presbyter except on the evidence of two or three witnesses. As for those who persist in sin, REBUKE THEM in the presence of all, so that the rest may stand in fear.”

like I said, I am done with it. People that have a right to be angry at the way this has been handled. Yet this pope is telling us the devil made me do it. Maybe just maybe I have Prayed and GOD is telling me to be angry and let the church leaders know you are angry. Until this Pope is gone, I am dome with the church. PERIOD. Lets get us an African Pope that will rid the remove all the evil church leaders that have caused so much damage.

I feel like we have been fed only baby food for decades, and we are now supposed to consume subtle steak.

This is insanity.

No, you’ve missed it. satan is using the scandalous revealing of sins (through scandalous accusation and social media) to insight the sins of others. Wake up!

satan will not win in this. Do not be fooled by comments on social media.

If we close our eyes to the massive crisis of the acceptance and protection of unchaste behavior, primarily sodomy, in the priesthood (as exposed by the McCarrick case that should have been addressed when the first letter was delivered to the Vatican in 2000), are we not “fools”?

The scandal is NOT that sodomitical behaviors, accepted and minimized in the episcopacy, are being revealed, but that WE are called satanic for noticing the scandal!

Surely people aren’t looking at the scandalous revealations and deciding to also commit sodomy? I’m not sure what sins you think are being incited?

I couldn’t follow your logic…it’s confusing.
  • Exposing the sodomy rampant in the episcopacy is causing original offenders to view pornography?
  • Identifying the grave evil that prelates are allowed to continue (because there hasn’t been much action taken to STOP it) is contributing to the sexual revolution? Ok…I agree. These same prelates are trying to convince us that Jesus loves homosexuals just the way they are, He made them that way, it’'s not disordered, God’s mercy is so boundless that He forgives every sin even if there isn’t the firm purpose to stop sinning, etc…
But you are essentially saying we shouldn’t expose the sodomy…so how would it be disciplined? The hierarchy isn’t correcting and hasn’t done so for decades. Drawing attention to it just MIGHT spur them to save face and take action, no?
  • Whistle blowers aren’t the problem. The sodomy and cover-up is. If you are insinuating AB Vigano has an agenda - you can read in his testimony why he felt it necessary to reveal the corruption instead of imputing evil intent.
  • Catholics leaving are due to the SINS committed and covered up. How can they TRUST the Church leaders? If they witnessed bishops donning sack cloth and ashes, publicly begging forgiveness for sins of commission and omission along with swift action to correct every unchaste prelate in their midst, perhaps they could regain trust and wouldn’t be fleeing the from the corruption?
Exactly WHAT are the sins committed often on Catholic Social Media?

You’ve missed his point ENTIRELY.

Sin, mon ami is when we fly off, half cocked accusing everything and everyone and burning down the building with everything in it.

Blatantly and unapologetically asking the Pope to resign without any hard evidence is SIN - END OF STORY.

Have respect for the Chair and Office of St. Peter.

Calling for inquiry like the American Bishops did is right. Calling for the Pope to resign is SIN.

satan has used social media to his benefit for the DAMNATION of souls.

What sins?

Lets see:

Slander, leaving the faith, slander, slander, slander and more slander.

Social media is a HOTBED for satans trickery. Or do you close you eyes to his reality? I hope and trust not.

MY FINAL POINT: Its one thing to report the news and comment on the news, its another thing entirely to SLANDER others.
