And Cardinal Marc Ouellet weighs in on the matter, goaded as he was by Archbishop Vigano’s last public letter. Of course I have no personal knowledge about former Cardinal McCarrick, but I will admit that I did not and do not like the way Archbishop Vigano went about bringing these charges against Pope Francis, especially his demand that our Holy Father resign. Cardinal Ouellet’s response is as strong a refutation, from someone with actual knowledge of the situation, of both the charges and the manner in which they were brought to light that I’ve yet seen.

I think it is abhorrent, however, for you to use the clamorous sexual abuse scandal in the United States to inflict an unmerited and unheard of a blow to the moral authority of your superior, the Supreme Pontiff.
The problem with this statement by Cardinal Ouellet is that everyone knows the sex abuse scandal goes far beyond the US. We also know that Archbishop Vigano says that the problem in the Church clergy is homosexuality. Cardinal Ouellet smells of more clerical coverup…quintessential clergy coverup.
