I don’t disagree with anything you say there but the question of whether or not homosexuality causes abuse is not any concern of mine whatsoever. It’s not something I consider.

To me it is one culture simply being incompatible with another culture.

If the church continues to allow them within the ranks of the hierarchy, it is a de facto stamp of approval of sodomy. The Church has a history of enabling abuse.

It needs to stop and I have my suspicions that a major concern is a lack of enough priests.

That may have not been true many decades ago, but today it may very well be true.

So, how to achieve more vocations from heterosexual men who can absolutely devote themselves to Christ?
And it’s obviously not impossible for such men to do so. Many saints and priests, and many lay people, both men and women, have succeeded at living lives of holy chastity.

The current media-internet culture discourages chastity and encourages wrong thinking about sexual activity.

According to psychologists, adolescence can last until age 25 or so, right? Particularly in men. (Or last their lifetime, as in my case 😃)

I’m not entirely sure I agree with that. It’s more a failure to recognize that in spite of a person’s best intentions, putting a homosexual male into an all male environment with other homosexuals present is likely to be too powerful temptation for even the best of intentions to overcome.

If for some reason women priests were became approved by the Vatican (hypothetical… I’m not suggesting it should happen!), putting heterosexual young males into seminaries with heterosexual young females would equally cause breaches of chastity… with the added bonus of unwanted pregnancies.

Custody of the eyes, and occasions of sin are the same whether one is hetero- or homosexual. Put the wrong mix together and inevitably some are overcome by temptation.

Yes, but it’s clearly not for everybody. We are all have different abilities in that regard. I suspect that many who succeeded may have had sex drives, if not abnormally low, certainly at the low end of normal.

You win the obvious statement of the week award 😉

Yes, I saw that article.

I can’t argue with the suggestions proposed.

I try just to let the good part shine. The joie de vivre, the love of football, the general helplessness at laundering, etc.

Edit, I wasn’t sure what “adolescence not yet superseded” meant, so I looked up the same document in my native French. It means, essentially, adolescence not yet completed.
I understood what they meant by “adolescence not yet superseded”, but its an awkward phrasing. Probably a too literal translation of the Latin. No one talks like that…

Two points:
  1. A few years ago I was required to undergo the “Ethics and Integrity Workshop” prior to working with kids at our church. I remember the video pointed out that pedophiles often seek positions which will provide more “opportunities” for their behavior. I don’t recall if the same was said about homosexuals. Are clergy required to undergo such a workshop?
  2. IF a person is a Catholic will homosexual tendencies, and that person is truly striving to live in accordance with Church teaching against acting on those tendencies, why would that person intentionally place themselves in a position which provides greater temptations and opportunities? I, for example, would NEVER seek employment in a Krispy Kreme Donut shop!
