Aboard the papal plane, Nov 1, 2016 / 10:36 am (CNA/EWTN News).- During a press conference Tuesday aboard the papal plane from Sweden to Rome, Pope Francis said the issue of women priests has been clearly decided, while also clarifying the essential role of women in the Catholic Church.

His words are interesting. He uses the words ordination of women is clear.

He doesn’t use the words ordination to the the priesthood he says ordination.

I think he was meaning he was also saying no to women deacons.

I think we need to wait on that – he was answering a question specifically about presbyteral ordination. It’s not clear that he meant his answer to apply to the diaconate as well.
 
The Pope was quite clear. His reference to the formulation used by St. John Paul is also critical. The issue is closed for all time.

I would assume he means ordination of women in any way. At least I HOPE so! God Bless, Memaw

As a husband and father of two daughters, both of whom are professionals and who are custodians of confidential information in their professions, I find that remark insulting and demeaning to women.

Regardless of what he meant in that particular sentence at that particular moment, there’s no doubt that the Church as a whole has settled this question. So even if he was answering only about priests, it changes nothing.

If someone asks Pope Francis “can you baptize a cat?” and he says “no, I cannot baptize a cat” it would be erroneous to think that he intends to say that he could baptize a dog.

Oh brother! I’m sorry it upset you. I’m a woman! I was making fun of myself too. :o

It’s a well known fact that women tend to be chattier and more gossipy than men. 🤷 That’s all. It certainly doesn’t apply to all women. Just a joke. :o

I can’t resist, please forgive me.

A bloodhound a labrador and a siamese were discussing the finer points of baptism. The bloodhound blissfully recalls how he as a Baptist was immersed in a tank at the front of the sanctuary. The labrador boasted of the superiority used in his Methodist church by dunking him in in the river. The dogs turn to the siamese and ask “how about you, were you immersed in a tank or dunked in the river?” The kitty while grooming her face with her paw purrs, “heavens no I am a Catolick.”
