Pope Francis speaks out against racism

I agree with the Holy Father, and agree that racism exists and is still a problem. If we leave it there, we are good.

Once we start labeling WHO we believe is racist, or which ideology has racists beliefs or tendencies, we might diverge.

So practically speaking, it becomes difficult to root out racism since not every agrees it is there when someone else sees it. Most of us agree it exists, we just can’t agree who is guilty of it.

Because some would claim not to be racist, while dividing up society into racial groups and isolating themselves by race, or pandering to a particular race politically because I is an easy way to garner votes/ That is hardly promoting the dignity of people, but does it fit your definition of racism?

The problem would appear to be that there are those who would even deny that it exists. How do propose to solve that?

Racism exists and is an evil to be recognized and rejected. You can debate the genesis of it and you can debate the motives of various agendas surrounding it, but it is alive and well.
I mentor a black teenager who is 14 years old, 6 foot tall with 6 inches more of hair and a little man-beard, and I can tell you that he is feared and targeted by white neighbors and police because of his appearance.

He’s been handcuffed for walking on the sidewalk at the wrong time, when a crime was committed down the street he had nothing to do with.
He’s been singled out and arrested out of a group of 5 teenagers, 4 white and him, when a shopkeeper complained about a shoplifting incident that one of the other teens did. He was exonerated, but he just happened to be black and the other kids white, so it was assumed that he needed to be hauled in.
When we walk into a shoe store together the salespeople look at him and watch him with extra suspicion.
At age 14 he has not been racially conscious yet, but he is developing a sense that he is unfairly targeted and it makes him angry.
So I’ve had to tell him that no matter how angry he is, if police approach him, do not resist them. Comply, don’t talk back, and for God’s sake show them your open hands so they don’t suspect a weapon. He needs to take his hands out of his pockets palms up.

I never believed that racism was a problem in the past. But it is evident that racism is a very real thing and you probably have to be a victim to understand that.

For a population that is “statistically insignificant” they sure do have a lot of organizations:

Honestly, I’m stunned that this thread has garnered 60 replies and they haven’t all been, “Great, thank you Pope Francis for speaking out against racism because racism is bad.” How can you say anything else about racism? We should be ashamed of ourselves here.

Racism is disgusting and anti-Christian. People need to admit that privilege is very real and those with privilege (rich white men) need to do their part to help those who are less fortunate. Everyone should be equal and yet sadly women and minorities are not treated fairly

Even the Church has acknowledged that in many cases sexual orientation is not a choice.

The number of nazis in America is statistically insignificant. They’re nothing but 'tards living in their moms basements, if it wasn’t for cable news needing to fill every minute of a 24 hour day they’d remain in their irrelevance and never get the attention they crave.
Mmm. So there are racists in the US? And I just pointed out one group before you had to conceded that. How many more do you want me to list? Aryan Nation? The American Freedom party? Christian Identity? The KKK?

And these are just the organised racists. You know, with members, fees, web pages, offical statements, spokesmen, meetings etc. There are dozens of these moronic groups all over the US. And here’s what one of the scum thinks of Trump’s recent comments:

“Man, President Trump’s Twitter account has been pure fire lately. This might be the funniest thing he’s ever tweeted. This is the kind of WHITE NATIONALISM we elected him for,” wrote Andrew Anglin on his Daily Stormer site – one of the most highly trafficked neo-Nazi websites.

“And we’re obviously seeing it only because there’s another election coming up. But I’ll tell you, even knowing that, it still feels so good.”

And you had the temerity to post that there was no racism in America.

Racism is another offense against transcendent human dignity.
Human beings are made in the image of God, and the degradation of one human being of any race, creed, stage of development, class status, or any other status, is an offense against all human beings.

And so we have these inconsistencies, where people align along political visions of human dignity rather than objective bases.
Some will not tolerate racism but will tolerate abortion.
Others will not tolerate something like abortion or euthanasia but racism is invisible to them.

And both visions distort objective human dignity and perpetuate injustice.

At the core, these injustices are the result of ignorance and stupidity, not necessarily ill will. And the loss of reason goes hand in hand with sin and injustice.

None was definitely too hyperbolic. I’ll retract that.

There aren’t enough in the country to matter. They’re such a tiny minority of opinion we shouldn’t give them an acknowledgement.
So we have moved on. From ‘there aren’t any’ to ‘we should ignore them’. The bar is set so low in this thread that I guess we could call that an improvement.

So when we have torchlit marches by neo-nazis then the best thing to do is to ignore them.

“With a single tweet, Trump was able to win back the sizeable deluded portion of the Alt-Right, eager to take another trip on the merry-go-round,” prominent white nationalist Richard Spencer wrote on Twitter. Spencer, who infamously declared “Hail Trump” following the 2016 election at an event where people were seen apparently giving the Nazi salute, told CNN he now thought Trump was talk and no action. Spencer was one of those who led a torch rally in Charlottesville in August 2017, during a weekend when a neo-Nazi drove a car at a crowd of counter-protesters, killing one woman.

Read that last bit? They killed a woman. But hey, there’s good people on both sides, as someone said at the time. Nothing to see here. Just a tiny minority. If the press report it they’re part of the problem. Whereas comments such as ‘send them back where they came from’ is just honest political comment.

Do you truly believe that almost half the country is racist?
Nazis are a tiny minority in this country, and should not be either used for political points, nor should they be given attention beyond their actual scope.

And at the same time, racism is deeply imbedded in the hearts of a lot of people, even people of good will. It’s like an undiagnosed disease, and politics and posturing are never the cure. The cure is Jesus living in the heart of every person and changing that heart.

God doesn’t create disordered attractions so we can say it’s a result of original sin. The temptations and inclinations must be rejected.

This is what I’m talking about, blaming Trump for racism. It doesn’t matter who the Republican is in office, the Dems always label them a racist and a homophobe. Trump doesn’t play the political correct Saul Alinsky game, and that’s why he won the election. The Dems tricks are running out, shame on them for wanting power so much as to manipulate people.

How do you know that these white power racists aren’t getting paid that moola to fire up the crowd and praise Trump when his comments weren’t even racist?

How is this a topic? Why is it not agreeing with the Pope and moving on?

He is doing a great job I must say, not in every aspect but in many, many aspects especially the pro life cause.

His own military adviser upon discovering he (Trump) wasn’t appointing new diplomats said this:

" When you don’t replace diplomatic matters with people I have to buy bullets."

That is not a good job. That is a terrifyingly horrific national issue.

Pope Francis too, I pray everyday for the Pope and the President.
