I hope he consecrates Russia in the manner pleasing to Our Lady 🙂 So I hope, so may it be!

Has the message of Our Lady of Fatima been fulfilled? Is there any need for us to look to her almost 100 years after the Miracle of the Sun?

World War II still is echoing in the world and it has really changed the world with the introduction of nuclear weapons.

Where else might the peoples of the world turn for hope in these times?

This is wonderful news.
He is truly turning out to be a unique Pope.

I had always heard that Sister Lucia wrote a letter in which she said the consecration had been completed properly. Am I incorrect?

The Russian Orthodox have already come out with statements hoping that Pope Francis will not support Eastern Catholics, particularly Ukrainian. I suspect he will openly support Eastern Catholics, which will not make the RO happy at all. In addition, they were on record prior to the conclave in hoping for a traditionalist to be elected Pontiff.

I strongly doubt that we will see any major improvements in Catholic-Russian Orthodox relations. Though for the record, I hope I am wrong and you are right.
The term used by the Orthodox Church for those Eastern Churches in union with Rome is “uniate”. As it is considered a derogatory term, it is not used within the Catholic Church any longer when referring to them.

It would appear that the Greek Orthodox may have fewer problems with the Eastern Churches and/or Rome than their Russian brethren. It is a long history, and unlike the United States, which has relatively so little history, memories run long and far back in Europe and Asia. Our greatest continuing “friction”, if you will, goes back to the Civil War. How much of the troubles in Bosnia, Serbia, etc. goes back 800 years or more?

for the consecration to be valid, it is said that the Bishops of the world must participate with the Holy Father in making a public profession regarding Russia. This has not yet occured, though various Popes have discussed the matter in an individual sense.

Let’s review an important fact here. When some affirm that the consecration was not done in the manner requested by Our Lady, we are not speaking of the words of Our Lady of Fatima, but of the words that Our Lady spoke in a subsequent private revelation to Sr. Lucia years later, specifically on June 13, 1929.

If we are to give assent to this subsequent set of private revelations, we must also therefore give assent to what took place on August 19, 1931. On this occasion, Sr. Lucia was also praying for the conversion of Spain, Portugal, Europe, and the world. Our Lord spoke to her in private revelation and dictated two prayers to her:
You please me very much by praying for the conversion of those countries. Ask this grace also of My Mother.
"Sweet Heart of Mary, be the salvation of Russia, Spain, Portugal, Europe and the whole world.
“By Thy pure and Immaculate Conception, O Mary, obtain for me the conversion of Russia, Spain, Portugal, Europe and the whole world.”
Ever since, quite a few consecrations had been done, but none - Sr. Lucia says - in the manner requested by Our Lady. Then on March 25, 1984 Pope John Paul II renewed the Consecration once more in St. Peter’s. In preparation to that event, Pope John Paul II wrote a letter to all bishops, clarifying that this consecration of 1984 was to renew both the consecration of the world and Russia. When he spoke, before repeating the act of consecration with the wording of 1982, he stated:
I will today entrust to her Immaculate Heart — in spiritual union with all the bishops of the world — all individuals and peoples
Some have said that the wording of 1982 is not specifically mentioning Russia. This however is not keeping into consideration the fact that the Lord was pleased to include several other countries in the request to Our Lady. Thus, John Paul II, within the consecration of the whole world, added the following very clear statement:
In a special way we entrust and consecrate to you those individuals and nations which particularly need to be entrusted and consecrated.
Christ knows (and so does Our Lady) which individuals and nations particularly need to be consecrated. It is a mere coincidence that when Sr. Lucia spoke of Spain and Portugal and Europe, Our Lord said that this was pleasing to Him. As far as we know, it is fairly possible that other nations by 1984 needed a special consecration.

On August 29, 1989, Sr. Lucia wrote:
this same Supreme Pontiff, John Paul II wrote to all the bishops of the world asking them to unite with him. He sent for the statute of Our Lady of Fatima – the one from the little Chapel to be taken to Rome and on March 25, 1984 - publicly - with the bishops who wanted to unite with His Holiness, made the Consecration as Our Lady requested. They then asked me if it was made as Our Lady requested, and I said, “YES.” Now it was made.
It is written that wisdom is justified by its works. The consecration took place on March 1984. Around that very same time, the constituent republics of the Soviet Union started legal moves towards potentially declaring sovereignty over their territories. On November 9, 1989 the Berlin Wall falls. On April 13 1991 the Catholic Church established in Moscow the Apostolic Administration of European Russia (later to become the first Metropolitan Archdiocese of Moscow). Finally, on Christmas, December 25, 1991, Gorbachev resigned as president of the Soviet Union, declaring the office extinct and dissolving the USSR.

It is wonderful news to hear of nostrum Papa consecrating his pontificate to Our Lady of Fatima. I pray that Our Lady grant him much grace during his years in the papacy, interceding for him, the cardinals, bishops, priests, nuns, and all religious. 🙂
+1

I just started doing First Saturdays consistently and really thinking about what the Fatima prayer in my rosary means: pray and sacrifice for sinners.

God bless Pope Francis.

That’s right. Besides, Russia has its own big Marian feast, The Protecting Veil of the Theotokos, based on an apparition recognized by the Orthodox Church. If the Theotokos had asked the Russians to consecrate the West to her Protecting Veil, so as to prevent the Western nations “to spread their errors throughout the world”, and if the Russian Orthodox Church had decided to follow her request, I doubt any Western nation would be delighted.

I believe the “errors” referred to are communism, atheism etc, not the Orthodox Church.

Yep. That’s why I avoided use of the term.

Of course it wasn’t about the Orthodox Church.
But the “errors” of the communist - atheist regime are history now; Vladimir Putin governs the country together with the Orthodox Church.

Nevermind, it sounded to me like you meant that the Orthodox Church was being included in the “errors” mentioned at Fatima and thus they wouldn’t like being consecrated. I see what you mean now

Hi Vames, I was wondering if I could bother you and if you would be so kind, with supplying a picture or icon of this image of the Theotokos. Please and thank you:)

I understand that this message has been interpreted to mean “Russia” as in the Socialist government that would spread it’s errors. But after following many threads and reflecting and praying a lot about it I am lead to believe that this message of Our Blessed Mother Mary at Fatima may have an even deeper meaning especially for us Catholics.

Please bear with me as I try to explain myself.
One of the things that struck me was the timing of the apparitions. They took place in 1917.
Vatican I: 1869-1870
Vatican II : 1962-1965

I thought it was almost uncanny that the apparitions at Fatima took place almost right in the middle of these two Councils.
The other thing that struck me was how I have heard, read and witnessed how some had a or have a very hard time accepting the Papal Infallibility that Vatican I did or was trying to define. Vatican II from what I understand confirmed this in some way. Right here on CAF you can find númerous post by people who do not like either of the councils very much. More so with VII than VI. Even that tells me Our Lady of Fatima could have been warning people about the errors of Russia being spread if they did not change thier ways and start accepting these councils. One of the issues that people seem to have the hardest time accepting is the complete understanding of Papal infallibility. It is my understanding that this was one of the main.issues that split the Eastern and Western churches.
This struggle is something that is still going on…the refusal to accept the Pope as the Authority on all matters of faith and morals. People in general seem to struggle with this to include those who claim to be catholic. I also remember something my father had mentioned about a book he had found that brought up the point that if the Eastern and Western church’s had never split we probable would not have so many Protestant religions. Meaning the church might not have kept on splitting apart. Anyway it gave me a lot to think about and and as much az it pains me to say it I am now almost sure that the errors of Russia also includes the Russian Orthodox Church.
Anyway just thought I would share some of my thoughts on the subgect. I am not a scholar or anything just the way I see it right now.

The timing of the apparitions is even more amazing when you consider that the Russian Revolution which brought Communism to power started in March 1917 and the apparitions started just after in May 1917, and the Russian Revolution culminated in October 1917 while the apparitions stopped in October 1917.

When I first realized that my jaw dropped.

Kind of makes you wonder what else was being addressed through the apparitions that we are clueless about but others have the wisdom and knowledge to see and understand.

If Russia was consecrated in a manner pleasing to Our Lady in the exact way that she asked why:

a) Is Russia still thoroughly Orthodox and showing no sign of converting (and in fact blaming the Ukranians for a whole lot of things)?
b) Is Russia one of the worst places in the world for abortion, prostitution, crime syndicates and child pornography?
c) Is there no world peace as Our Lady promised? You think the world is in peace today?

The fact is that Our Lady’s request has not been followed. Every single Catholic Bishop in union with the Holy Father must consecrate Russia to the Immaculate Heart. That has never happened.

Russia has not been consecrated. Sister Lucy on other occasions after 1984’s consecration of the world (i.e. not specifically Russia) that in fact the consecration had not fulfilled Our Lady’s command. In any case, it was never a fact that Sr Lucy was the final authority on what pleased Heaven in this regard. The only person who could say that Russia has been consecrated in the way that Our Lady demanded is the Pope himself - and no Pope has ever explicitly said that he has consecrated Russia to the Immaculate Heart in the manner demanded by Our Lady. After the 1984 consecration of the world, Bl John Paul II was reported as saying “Enlighten especially the people whose consecration and entrusting you are awaiting from us.” Strange no? And what about Pope Benedict’s recent statement that the message of Fatima is still relevant today. Could we take that only to mean that we must pray the Rosary everyday? Perhaps. But he could’ve just said that’s what he meant. No, it seems rather that he meant something to do with the third secret and the consecration.

Saviour of the world, save Russia! God Bless you.

The information there is coming from misinformation.

And Sr Lucia was not happy that people still thought it was not done – when in fact it was.
