Your kidding, right? Pope Francis is probably the most talkative Pope we’ve had. Modern communications helps but still.I’m sure he knew full well she would eventually say what happened -human nature being what it is. And I’m quite sure he is not at all upset by the revelation, its how Pope Francis preaches without using words, his actions speak louder.

Why should it matter that Kim Davis is Pentecostal and not Catholic? The pontiff grants private audiences to Jewish, Muslim and Protestant clergy and lay people. The private time of His Holiness is not limited to Catholics! There’s an article about this in the British newspaper, The Guardian:
theguardian.com/us-news/2015/sep/30/kentucky-clerk-kim-davis-in-secret-meeting-with-pope-francis-report-says …
The fact that Kim Davis is Pentecostal and that the Pope would give her and her husband rosaries (something not used by Pentecostals) makes this story kind of fishy, too.
As with other public figures, the Pope can choose to keep some meetings low key.If the Pope strongly supports her cause, then why meet with Kim Davis in secret and then refuse to confirm the meeting afterwards? His meeting with Castro was not a secret.
If refutation fails, change the topic. They’ve been listed as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center![]()
He’s actually not that talkative. The difference is that he started having press conferences on the return trips, similar to the press conferences that JPII had before he became ill and old. Benedict only had scripted press conferences on the plane, but Francis is doing it similar to how JPII did early during his pontificate.Your kidding, right? Pope Francis is probably the most talkative Pope we’ve had. Modern communications helps but still.
Anyway the breaking news for liberals is that the Pope is Catholic and upholds the teachings of Jesus Christ and His Church, the Catholic Church. Did any of them actually listen to his speeches? They all upheld the family. It’s not the Pope’s style to say straight out homosexual unions are wrong. He just affirms what is true and right.
It’s like when Jesus was teaching the apostles about the indissolubility of marriage he was also saying what marriage is. A vision of marriage that is rooted in Genesis 1-2 and does not include homosexual unions.
Why all the secrecy and all the “private” confirmations (but no official public ones) and the refusals from the Vatican to confirm or deny? It all seems rather silly.![]()
I agree with you it is silly to be so hush hush. I wish it had come out and overshadowed his public statements. In Rome, the Vatican press office originally said that it would not confirm or deny reports of the meeting–a formula to avoid official comment on private meetings-- but later confirmed that the meeting did take place, declining further comment. A spokesman for Kim Davis said that Vatican officials had wanted to avoid reports about the meeting during the Pope’s visit, so that the news would not overshadow his public statements.
So have the Care Bears. So what? They’ve been listed as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center![]()
True and I don’t know much about Pentecostals, but agree with Professor Andrew Chestnut when he said, “One of the great ironies is that Kim Davis’s Pentecostal faith has historically viewed Catholicism as an idolatrous abomination of Christianity.”Why should it matter that Kim Davis is Pentecostal and not Catholic? The pontiff grants private audiences to Jewish, Muslim and Protestant clergy and lay people. The private time of His Holiness is not limited to Catholics!
If the Pope wanted to keep this meeting low key, he obviously didn’t succeed since it’s all over the news.As with other public figures, the Pope can choose to keep some meetings low key.
Not every meeting with the pope needs to be publicly broadcast. When Pope Benedict came in 2008, he had an unannounced meeting with sex abuse victims. I think news of that broke while his visit was still underway, though. Why all the secrecy and all the “private” confirmations (but no official public ones) and the refusals from the Vatican to confirm or deny? It all seems rather silly.![]()
You misread my meaning or maybe I didn’t word it properly. He more directly evangelizes the church teachings through actions. Visiting the poor, the imprisoned, the homeless. President Obama preaches religious freedom on the White House lawn and instead of direct confrontation on the hypocrisy of his speech he makes an unscheduled visit to The Little Sisters of the Poor. He made his point without speaking. Instead of directly confronting the supreme court ruling on supposed same sex marriage he visits with Kim Davis. He made his point without speaking.Your kidding, right? Pope Francis is probably the most talkative Pope we’ve had. Modern communications helps but still.

I’m not the one who originally brought up her being in Washington to be honored by the Family Research Council. I was just responding to someone else who mentioned this. And the FRC is pretty hateful in my opinion. If refutation fails, change the topic.

Thanks for posting.Vatican spokesman has confirmed:
nytimes.com/2015/09/30/us/county-clerk-kim-davis-who-denied-gay-couples-visited-pope.html
Hopefully this experience will help her rediscover her Catholic faith (the article says her parents are Catholics, so I assume she was at some point).
what is an apostolic christian?
That’s a pretty good run down. I agree that we need to be careful about reading too much into the meeting.I admit I was taken aback by news of the meeting. Pope Francis usually seems to be uninterested in culture war issues. Here is a good synopsis by Fr. James Martin S.J. for those that are concerned about the meeting:
The Pope and Kim Davis: Seven Points to Keep in Mind
Honestly, the most shocking thing I learned in that article is that Apostolic Pentecostals are not Trinitarian. I’ve always thought that you need to believe in the Trinity to be considered a Christian (by definition). Who was Jesus praying to if there’s no distinction between the Father and Son?
I hope the Holy Spirit touched her and her husband during the visit with the Pope and they both will practice the Catholic faith soon.Vatican spokesman has confirmed:

On the other hand, based on viewing his FB page, I could see Martin wanting to not read anything into the meeting at all. That’s a pretty good run down. I agree that we need to be careful about reading too much into the meeting.
I agree it is unfortunate that there is so much heated debate about this topic. But the reality is that Kim Davis and this whole episode over the SSM licenses *is *about defending religious freedom in the US. *And this gesture of meeting her does confirm the Pope understands that. *That is a great thing for Christianity - I don’t want that downplayed; it is not good for the Church to downplay it. I likewise don’t want to offend anyone and my goal is not intolerance. I am defending a Christian’s right to exercise his faith in modern society - and not get fired or otherwise mistreated for it. We need compromise, not intolerance. (and of course the Pope understands this too)That’s a pretty good run down. I agree that we need to be careful about reading too much into the meeting.
Father Martin seems to be the one that is bringing the political into this. Why even mention it at all. Seems to me a pretty straight forward account of the Holy Father upholding a teaching of Jesus Christ and His Church. But also finding what’s good and true in what may be outside the Catholic Church and saying yes we agree. That’s a pretty good run down. I agree that we need to be careful about reading too much into the meeting.
