I agree!!! If we believed everything we hear on the news, we’d be the most misled of people. The Catholic Church has no authority over other denominations except if they are wanting to reunite with The Catholic Church. Then that’s a different story, they would have to abide by Catholic teachings and laws. The charism to declare ex cathedra is reserve exclusively for the pope and when clarifying an issue that has been called into question. Now, ex cathedra status of Sacerdotalis Ordinatio has been speculated on by many individuals, however, the Prefect for the Congregation on the Doctrine of the Faith has said that while SO is not an ex cathedra pronouncement, because it does not fall outside the extraordiary magisterium of the church, i.e., it is an infallible proclaimation that falls within the ordinary and universal magisterium of the Church. However, they note that its public nature was used to clarify an issue that was being called into question even by some bishops, who possess the charism of infallible under ordinary circumstances. So, this letter did not declare a NEW doctrine or clarify an old one, it was meant as a teaching pronouncement to ensure that all of the faithful clearly understood what the Church’s stand on the matter was. Wonder why we haven’t seen complaints about him shaking hands at the Archbishop of Canterbury??

Have we not got better things to do like trying to be the best in Christ and not judge. Is Pope wrong for being manorly and reaching out to a woman. Is she wrong because she felt some kind of calling to God. Am I wrong for thinking that we should stay out of it. All of us even you could be wrong. Stop and think about the times Jesus reached out to women. The Samaritan woman at the well, the woman caught in adultry. What about the women that Paul and other apostles trusted to watch over the Gentile churches? (Phoebe)
Society has changed and Jesus did not chose women for the roles that he started. Women in Jerusalem would not have been accepted or safe to do that role. Gentile woman were used to being Priestess’. Yet He entrust the whole world to his Mother Mary. Should we or should we not let God fearing women take part in a devout society instituted by Christ to build His Church. Women have become more invovled in Church than ever throughout history. At times it appears women have kept many struggling churches going. We have many Saints who are women and they played a strong role in protecting and encouraging others to take their faith seriously.
I don’t know. I myself have no desire to be a priest and I am not against the Church in it’s decision to protect this Order. Yet I see the institution growing smaller. A sign from God ??? Are women the answer??? I fear that some women approach this as an opportunity to be the first, to gain recognition and not have a true calling. Those women would be hard to eliminate from the selection. Yet I have heard some women in Diocesan Workshop Programs and even talk at World conferences and I tell you they sound more faith filled than some of the parisih priests who have become lax in their roles in their parishes. The people are not challenged to become active in their faith. Vatican II was a call to make our faith active. Just attending mass and making public showing. Some fears comes from loosing parishioners instead of losing souls.
I have been praying about this and will continue to pray. All I ask is that we need to remember the Church is not democratic organization controlled by men and just because we live in the US and can give opinions does not mean we understand God’s reasoning. After all he has the last vote; whether it be that He chooses to annoint women or not. The Vatican manages our faith but in the end they too must be open to God’s call. If it is his idea to do this then if we are truly following Christ and not just living out tradition we must respond to His will.
I believe in time God will reveal HIs desire to us and our role is to respond lovingly to His will. I pray that I end up being one the elect who is chosen to remain loyal to His call whatever the role might be. God comes first and then my church. When the 2 are united I am happiest.

There does not seem to be anytjing wrong in the shaking hand with a woman priest of the Anglican church. The Pope does not recognise that she was truly an anointed priest of Christ. However he just wants to show respect to her in the western style of meetings. If the Pope shakes hands with an atheist it does not mean he agrees with atheism.Oh, what a pity.
