If a person confesses Jesus as lord, he is considered a Christian. What sins has trump committed, in your eyes, that he can’t even be considered a Christian? We can call nancy Pelosi, a staunch pro-abortionist, a catholic but trump, no way he is a real Christian. The only thing yu could point to is his divorces but now he has a good family and is on good terms with his exwives. Is it because he’s just too rich, and he’s too loud? By your standard, there will not be many Christians left.
I wont decide if Trump is a Christian or not…thats IMO for God to decide. What Pope Francis has said according to the translations is that if you support building a separation wall and if you support the deportation of Mexicans then you are not a Christian. This is nothing to due with wealth and everything to do with common courtesy which is a major element in Christianity. Donald Trump lacks common courtesy wrt how trump speaks about minorities…and I think this is why the Pope is calling out Trump.

God bless Pope Francis,
cnn.com/2016/02/18/politi…hristian-wall/

This is a monumental thing and a very positive thing for Pope Francis to say…its crystal clear…Your not a Christian if you support Donald Trump. Pope Francis is a hero for the world because of how the Pope stands up for Christians and non Christians alike. I feel very proud to be a Catholic today.
Please. No one per Scripture can judge a man’s heart. Only God.

Are you a Christian if you support Obama?

Is abortion a secondary issue now to “the wall”.

This is IMO a negative for the Pope and Church unless he clarifies it. Maybe come out and condemn Hillary as a candidate as non-Christian too?!

What Pope Francis has said according to the translations is that if you support building a separation wall and if you support the deportation of Mexicans then you are not a Christian.
So this is the correct interpretation? I support the deportation of illegal mexicans and illegals from other countries. I want them to come in legally. If that makes me a non-Christian, I won’t know what to do!

So now everything is the fault of Trump and his supporters. Got it!
I never even implied that. Paranoid much? LOL

I think it indicts us when Catholics can so easily side with an opportunistic businessman over the Vicar of Christ–and there are not a smaller number of Catholics doing that.

We are talking about an issue of heavy moral and faith importance, and Trump knows better than the Pope? Wow.

But here is what I don’t understand. You are insisting that the Pope didn’t necessarily condemn Trump. He was talking about some theoretical person who “only thinks about building a wall and not bridges.” and according to you, the Pope is not talking about Trump.

So why are you insisting now that since this is such an important moral issue, we must listen to the Pope and not Trump? What does Trump advocate that the Pope condemns? I thought there was no conflict between the two people.

What does that even mean? What does it mean to not “other” people? Does it mean we can’t lock our doors, have to welcome all strangers into our houses and country, not worry about drugs and crime, not make a peep when people break our laws? Trump wants immigrants but legal ones. What’s so wRong with that?
The problem is how Trump speaks about Mexicans, migrants, refugees, immigrants and Muslims for example…Calling on a ban of Muslims traveling to the USA…and calling for 12 million so called illegals(many of whom are nice good working people) to be deported is probably why the Pope is speaking up…not to mention the Pope is in Mexico and I think maybe the Pope while speaking to Mexicans saw in these Mexicans loving king and wonderful Christians. So the Pope is not at all going against security, but rather…very clearly saying that intolerance has nothing to do with Christianity.

I’m not into politics much btw…I care about people and I will look for leaders who preach tolerance and strength . . GWB said clearly … Islam is peace and those AQ terrorists do not represent Islam. GWB also said it is not the American way to discriminant against others. It is not the American way to deport 12 million people…many of whom are illegals but are still very good productive citizens… There are just as many criminals in that 12 million illegals as there are criminals percentage wise wrt the 300+ million Americans. Trump should take lines from GWB…after all GWB stood up with the firefighters in the after math of 9/11 unifying the country(Muslims, Atheists, Jews and Christians and more) against terrorism.

Illegal immigration cannot be stopped unless the US is decisive about it. The wall hurts no one.

I agree. So? That just proves how “not” Catholic those catholics are/were.
You just seemed surprised in this instance. I’m just saying you shouldn’t be surprised. We have instances of liberals placing more importance on their political ideology than on the teachings of Jesus.

“There is a reason people don’t build fences in the middle of nowhere; it doesn’t change the enforcement profile in the middle of nowhere,” the migration expert said. “The existing fence has worked because of where it is, near populated areas. Both Democrats and Republicans have testified that they have the fencing they need,” Rosenblum said.
The actual cost for the rest of the border wall (roughly 1,300 miles) could be as high as $16 million per mile, with a total price tag of $15 billion to $25 billion. Rosenblum said the $15 billion low-end estimate is “probably an underestimate,” because the parts that have yet to be fenced are the most difficult — the most dense and arid. At $16 million per mile and with 1,300 miles to secure, the estimated cost would be $12 billion, and the price of private land acquisitions and maintenance of fencing could push that total cost higher.
The U.S. government would have to pay to maintain the wall, which could cost as much as $750 million a year, according to an analysis conducted by Politico. And then if it wanted to man it with personnel, that would be an additional cost — border patrol has an operating budget of $1.4 billion for 21,000 agents.

We already don’t seem to have the money to replace aging infrastructure like bridges, roads, etc. So where would the $25 billion come from?

I still can’t help wondering why Trump would make his “disgraceful” remark about the Pope. To me it would seem politically stupid of Trump to pick some sort of fight with the Pope since he risks alienating Catholic voters. He could have just refused to comment. But I would never presume that Trump is stupid and he could be intending to stoke anti-Catholic prejudice to defeat his opponents.
I’d be more worried about the Pope alienating Catholic voters. There are a lot of lower and middle class Catholics who are being killed by open borders. The Pope seems to act is if it is the rich and powerful who are opposed to open borders, but the reality is it is the rich and powerful who are its biggest supporters and the poor and middle classes who don’t.

Francis said nothing not aligned with Catholic teaching. Should he have to bend teaching to attract US voters? Should he even have to care about attracting or alienating voters?

It would probably be cheaper to give more economic aid to Mexico so that less people there would be inclined to want to come illegally to the US than to spend $20 billion on a wall.

Yes. He is aligning himself with the elites who want cheap labor.

Exploit the immigrants and deny working class Americans fair wages.

The Hb1 visa program is rampant with fraud too.

The elites want cheap labor and support global warming issues as they will make money from it.

This is so sad that the Pope does not see he is being played.

I think the Republicans know that the wall isn’t going to work. They are prepared to waste $25 billion to get a vote. People seem to think that wall in the south will be effective. It won’t. This is not who we are as people. This is just a total waste of money, and an insult to thinking Americans.

I agree, sadly. The very fact that so many Catholics do not seem to understand what the Vicar of Christ is, that is amazing and painful. Pope Francis is a successor to Peter, who was appointed directly by Christ–which in turn means the Pope is part of a direct line back to our Lord. He is the Pastor over the entire universal church on earth, and he holds the Keys to the Kingdom. Yet, regarding an issue that covers politics, morals and faith, many Catholics are siding with a businessman over the Vicar of Christ.

And just how offensive is it to hear the refrain from USA Catholics stating this Pope is a leftist, which is some backward way of trying to claim the Pope cannot think clearly. It also implies the College of Cardinals and the Holy Spirit picked the wrong man, because according to those views this Pope doesn’t have a balanced pov.

The Pope is not left or right–he is Catholic, the Vicar of Christ. One would expect the Pope to be an equal opportunity upsetter, in that if we think about Jesus, His message of truth upset people of all types…seems nothing ever changes.
Irishpatrick, I can tell by your posts how sincere and concerned you are about the future of our nation. I think the rhetoric in this country has gotten so vitriolic because no one has said enough is enough. It is no surprise that it has now enveloped the pope in his statement about walls. This growing cloud of nastiness is now over everything. I personally think that the pope has noted this and it was not an accident that he said what he said. It should give us all pause.

Not surprised. Sad and concerned for our nation.

So now what defines trump is that he doesn’t mind using extreme measures in order to protect innocent lives? So what determines a persons soul has come down to this?
When it came to the gays Pope Francis infamously said “Who am I to judge?” When it comes to Trump he is “not Christian.” Does anyone else see a problem with this? I am not a Trump supporter. In fact, I hate politics. My concern now and going way back is that this Pope keeps saying things that are confusing to the faithful, and the fact that he should be shepherding the flock, not becoming involved with the affairs and the politics of the day. And if Benedict hadn’t resigned for whatever reason I wouldn’t be feeling this way right now. So yes, I am not happy with the latest developments

They are the biggest supporters of open borders because they profit the most. Let’s not kid ourselves that they care for the welfare of these people. Perhaps that is what the pope is alluding to. He has often talked about human trafficking and the exploitation of the poorest among us.
