Thank you for clarifying your point. I have to agree with you. I 'm deeply disappointed with many Catholic’s lack of respect for the Holy Father.
That makes three of us. They quickly forget about the faith and start using the excuse, well he wasn’t speaking ex cathedra. Folks forget that were Catholic first.

You are making the judgment that other catholics have forgotten their faith by expressing doubt on what the Pope said. Are you also going to condemn those catholics who voted for Obama, then? Just curious if you would do that.

No kidding. The ex cathedra stuff is getting old. Not one poster claimed he was utilizing that privilege.

Do you know why those people voted for Obama? Some people voted for him not bc of his stance with abortion or gay marriage. Some voted for him bc of distinct reasons.

i stated this, I’m a moderate, some things I might lean democrat some republican, but if a pope ever said something, I’m going to side with him bc he is the vicar of Christ. Have you forgotten that?

To me it’s sad. Bc a lot of people here have raved about the pope. Hoorays and hurrahs have been sent to the pontiff on timeless occasions.

But he dares speak against the wall or trump (whose a republican) and people begin to state, "pope stay out of USA politics " or "I don’t have to believe in what he says bc he’s not speaking ex cathedra. I wonder how that’s going to go when they go to the kingdom of God.

My faith doesn’t tell me to side with the Pope whenever he says something. That’s not part of the creed, in case you have forgotten. Which is a more serious sin? Voting for someone knowing full well they support abortion and gay marriage, or asking questions on the way the Pope speaks?

Many posters here have voted for Obama and have no regrets whatsoever. If you are going to judge fellow catholics, you should be an equal opportunity critic. Just saying.

Has the pope had anyone killed? Has he tortured anybody? Has he alienated anybody? Not to my knowledge.

I’m just saying, people at this moment are offended for what the pope said in regards to trump. But guess what? Trump has flipped on issues. Abortion, being a democrat, he’s offended God knows how many groups.

The pope on the other hand has had an impeccable record. Like you asked me I ask you, you rather side with trump than the pope?
Remember trump still doesn’t know what his position on abortion is at this moment. The pope does. You’ll be on the same vote as those who voted for Obama.

The Pope is not running for president, LOL. I don’t think Trump reacted in the best way, so it’s ok when people bash him. I have no problem with that. Similarly you guys shouldn’t be so upset that we wonder if the Pope could have said things a little bit better. That’s no insult to the Pope.
You are insisting that when we dare question the Pope at all, we are abandoning the faith. That is such a strong statement. Overdone!

Mr. Trump is not running on a pro-choice platform, the term, pro-life platform is debatable if exceptions are made; but none the less, then-Senator Obama ran promoting so-called reproductive rights, as a pro-choice politician.

Yes, Trump has shifted his position around.

Let’s not forget, Trump, upon learning of the Center for Medical Progress, CMP videos said “defund planned parenthood”, even at the least, if Trump believes in supporting Planned Parenthood, Planned Parenthood will not be doing abortions.

We should at the least, know these people’s stances and records, they deserve that at least.

To me is a form of respect. I’m going to be brief with my personal story. My parents divorced when I was 16. Being the eldest of 3 I took more responsibility. One was being my mom’s right hand man.

At moments my mom has said somethings that maybe she shouldn’t have. I didn’t attack her nor did I tell her on the spot, clarify what you said. When we were home, I would talk to her privately and said, “hey mom, you could of said that better or been more tactful”.

I did so privately, I didn’t yell at her, nor did I bring other stuff. I had her back and she knew it.

Some people here are so offended. True, you can have an opinion, but some people just seem so distraught. It almost makes you think that country goes first and God second. (Remember God created this church with the Pope as the leader. And the gates of hell will never prevail against her.)

I’m just saying people especially Catholics here can be more tactful and respectful. I’m not saying I’m right, but I know I’m not wrong.

Thank you for sharing that personal story. Please don’t feel intimidated by the posters who disagree with you. Personally, I think some are being paid to defend Trump because that is the only time they ever post. It makes one wonder why. I enjoy reading what you think.

Catholic with a small “c”? Is that intentional?

I think you are misreading the exchanges.

Many think what the Pope implied was against clear Vatican support for National Sovereignty. Much better to ask the Pope to stay out of it than go through what transpired with his response to the Trump question.

I am confused by the title and subject of this thread. Does the Pope teach that Christians must accept indigent migrants from poorer countries whether they arrive legally or not and that it is morally wrong to build a wall to prevent them from arriving illegally? If not, can you explain briefly, what the Pope is teaching?

I can’t speak for the Pope. But my impression of the whole thing is that the Pope was responding to a mischaracterization by the reporter of what Trump actually has advocated. The Pope responded to it in a tentative sort of way. “If he says that, and I would give him the benefit of the doubt, then…”

What I think the Pope was actually saying is that he does not believe a radical and totally exclusionary policy is a Christian approach to the issue of immigration, particularly if “tearing families apart” is a deliberate element of it.

But again, Trump hasn’t been advocating that, so it’s fundamentally a media-concocted event.

I agree with your assessment, and there is no reason for families to be torn apart. Children should be raised by their parents, even if it’s in Mexico. If they also have a US passport (anchor baby) then they have the legal right to migrate when they turn 18.

Wow, I’m really amazed at your ability to nitpick others. I never noticed the “catholic” in my religion description was lower case, nor does it mean anything special. You take every chance to insinuate others are less than Catholic, but you didn’t even to bother apologizing in the other thread for spreading false rumors about a Trump tweet.

To me there is no difference between catholic or “Catholic.” Sometimes I type the pope instead of the Pope but not because I want to insult him. To you that’ll be another big deal.

The thing is, “pope” with a lower-case p is a simple mistake, but everyone knows what you meant, “Pope”. “Catholic” vs. “catholic” is different, because both exist, and they can mean different things …

If I list catholic as my religion, I mean the same as Cathilic. The question coming from Good Tiding, I’m sorry I’m sensing only hostility. He did the same with another poster who made a spelling error with “wont” versus wanton. Even though he knew clearly that was a spelling error, he couldn’t help but humiliate the poster.

And it’s true he never apologized for spreading a fake trump tweet.

Hey, this thread is back! 🙂

Actually, you technically only capitalize “pope” is you are using it along with a pope’s name. So it would be “the pope” or “Pope Francis”.

I’m sure different style guides may vary, but that’s what I was taught.
