Pope suggests Trump: not Christian

While I don’t necessarily disagree with the Pope, I am wondering why he singled out Trump. Honestly, supporting the wholesale, widespread slaughter of innocent babies is definitely NOT CHRISTIAN, but to my knowledge I have never heard him call out a single Democratic candidate on that especially the so called Catholic ones.
Pope Francis did not mention Donakd Trump by name. The question he was asked did concern Donald Trump.

I’m glad our Pope has said this. Catholics must choose whom they will follow. Christ’s Vicar on earth? Or a demagogue preaching fascism? You cannot serve God and mammon.

Laws are the hallmark of any Civilized society, so I wonder why the Pope would suggest that the US should not follow and effect the laws that are already on the books.

Trump is not a religious man, but if he says he is Christian (Presbyterian), that’s good enough for me. I do NOT support Trump’s policies, including the wall he wants to build, but at the same time, I believe his faith should not be questioned.
Why?

How have we come to a place where we won’t even question a person’s background or faith? Whether a person holds a genuine and strong faith says a lot about them. I think this culture is afraid to ask those questions, and yet they are critical to get to know any candidate.

As I have said, the most important thing about any candidate are their core values–what are Trump’s true core values and beliefs? What are they for Cruz, and Rubio, etc.?

How else does one keep drugs out, drugs like heroin and so on.

I think I will write to the Vatican that members of his flock need to not support and enable inherent evils such as abortion through political candidates.

With the Catholic voting bloc; perhaps that should be addressed as well.

UCSSB pronouncements do affirm a country’s rights to their sovereign borders, if that is codified in Vatican documents, I would think those documents are the ultimate authority.

I thought this Pope was not here to judge? Well, I guess that I am not a Christian either as I believe that we have the right as a sovereign nation to control who comes into our country and if a wall makes that job easier than I am all for it. The Pontiff should be concerning himself with spiritual issues, and not the workings of secular governments.

I would like to ask the Holy Father what he thinks of all those people who are violating our laws if they are likewise not Christians? The Scriptures tell us that we are to obey those who are our secular leaders and the laws that are imposed upon us, and all those who are illegally entering our country are in violation of that scriptural teaching.

I think its dangerous for the Pope to imply an individual may not be a Christian. Has he done this with Catholics who support abortion? With Obama, with others.

Its a dangerous road to go down.

Who am I to judge?
The Holy Father like everyone else picks and chooses the things on which he should not be judging. Homosexuals seem to not get this judging option, but Donald Trump does. I’m sorry, but I a very disappointed with this Pope - he seems to be nothing more than an out and out leftist.

The Holy Father spoke about those who only think about building walls, and not bridges…read the quote, please. it was not even directed to Trump in name. The Pope made a broad statement that covered anyone who is obsessed with building walls, while not bothering to build bridges.

I disagree, and hope that America NEVER becomes a place where one’s faith is questioned, especially in politics. To me, faith is a private and personal thing, and no one can claim to know another person’s heart and soul. Yes, one can question another’s political motivations, ideological beliefs, and social values as demonstrated by their political actions; but NOT, either explicitly or implicitly, their private faith, unless perhaps if they make their faith a part of the political campaign and agenda.

No, I think the pope has the ultimate authority. Good try, though.

Is the wall around the Vatican used to keep pilgrims out? It appears to me that the Pope is not talking about the mere existence of walls but about the “othering” of people beyond the wall.
I think he did mention the point about only laws. Here is the thing though we can welcome immigrants AND have a wall. I think we need to recognize the economic and crime situation with out neighbors do what we can to help and make it easy for folks to come here legally.

But we do need to control our borders. It is not just innocent migrants who are trying to come here.

It would help I the Pope made it clear that yes we get to know who is coming.

But, yet, he is willing to take that risk. Go figure.

I’ve seen too many Catholics struggle with addiction, rehab, and death. Jeez, Pope, building a wall sounds like a Christian way to decrease those devilish temptations…
