I don’t think there is serious debate when a businessman is now said to have a flock in the same context of the Pope having a flock. Sorry, but that really is weird.
Okay, I believe in being like the Vicar of Christ on earth and Jesus Christ, and to respect other people, their opinions and so on. Thank you.

Not denigrate, using “weird” and talking about “Rod Serling” in a conversation.

Sure, I like brevity, but that brevity needs to make sense. To say Trump has a flock is utterly ridiculous. To say a politician has a flock is ridiculous.

This getting more weird with every new post.
Flock

Constituency,

They are pretty similar. This is just a tacit deflection.

Politicians have a constituency they must watch over.

Flock is actually a bunch of sheep, so perhaps we should call it “weird” that a Pastor looks over a bunch of sheep.

Right. The workers will be carrying around dictionaries and laptops (or smartphones) when they can barely read. I think I can communicate with them in other than English, even if I have to draw pictures and use hand signals.
Many of us have ancestors that spoke a foreign language, Polish, Italian, German. Somehow they learned English.

In fact, this reminds me that the US would not allow in Louisiana unless it was an English speaking territory.

But I guess we can make exceptions to the rule.

Perhaps we should be called an “English first society” because it is okay to speak other languages but even Puerto Rico has English included as an official language.

At the same time, this is a domestic issue, the Pope is not running for the Presidency of the United States. If one enters the fray, thorough debate, pro and con is natural.
Haven’t read all the comments but I’m not sure why a Catholic would have a problem with the Pope’s remarks. The Pope has been accused of going against his ‘who am I to judge’ statement but he was talking about the heart. We certainly can judge actions and if someone who only considers building walls and not bridges in a particular issue could be called out for not having Christian principles.

The way the question was asked could apply to anyone and that was shown in the rest of the interview. The Pope then went on to talk about other teachings of Jesus that liberals have a tendency to dissent from and was pretty strong in his statements… the evil crime of abortion, reinforcing Jesus’ teaching against so called homosexual ‘marriage’ and even though their was some confusion brought to the forefront Jesus’ teaching against contraception which allowed the teaching to be explained correctly in reply to the liberal media’s wrong interpretation… Those are all walls to life and family and we can infer that the Holy Father was admonishing politicians that enable and support those walls as certainly not practicing Christian principles.

Okay–butt it is weird/strange to refer to Trump having a flock and to compare Trump to Pope about issues of faith and morals. If would think it would be weird if the Pope preached to Trump about what he should do with his casinos.

Jesus has a flock.

The Pope has a flock.

A Bishop or Priest has a flock.

Businessman and politicians do NOT have flocks. Of course, you know that, you just seem to be in a contrary mood. 👍

How many times has “weird” been used in the past few pages.

Anway, now we know, the definition of flock and low and behold, #2, not that weird and please don’t try to change this thread into somehow castigating one man about all of his sins. That is really off-topic.
Definition of flock
1 : a group of animals (as birds or sheep) assembled or herded together
Code:
2 : **a group under the guidance of a leader; especially : a church congregation**
Code:
3: a large number <a flock of tourists>

One has no back up and expect things to see it that way.

Feel free to bandy the word weird around, the definition of flock is out there and I don’t think we are going to supersede the dictionary.

Oh please – just stop. This is really beneath us both. We both the common use of the word flock, and have no clue why your such a strange pov.
This smacks of being personal. The dictionary clearly lays out a definition, Merriam Webster.

Facts matter.

If one is insisting everyone to a reasonable percentage coming across is from Mexico, that may well be confronted as not being correct.

If one is making out as if every word uttered by the Pope is equal to promulgated doctrine, that issue may again be confronted as not being correct.

I can not believe that some one is going to have their own personal definitions be what is used versus what is in a universal dictionary.

:hmmm: I wonder why this has turned into a semantics debate about what simple words mean.

To some extent. But my Polish-born parents, especially my dad, never was anywhere near comfortable with the English. And he was a world traveler who lived to be 91…

I know from experience that English is a tough language to learn. There are no consistent rules on pronunciations and there are so many homophones and double-meanings and silent letters I also know most who speak English speak it as a second or third language. They might know enough to do business in or make friends with but that’s about it.

On this issue Trump ought to give them some slack.

And I’m out of here.

It may not contribute much to the debate.

Personally, I do think that a Governor or a President, can be a sort of father figure to the state and to the Nation respectively.

And the Pope, Papa, likewise has that role.

And all of them are leaders. I hope this definition is not going to be argued as well.

I am sure, this can be worked out. Rick Santorum has spoken on this issue and how his father or grandfather learned English. I leave him as a source for further research.

Maybe we don’t need to have English for everyone but English probably should be the first language of the US and maybe official language. People should be unified, not Balkanized.
