Would not a legal power of attorney and a living will give gay couples the same rights they want? Simple fact is it is about the money. They want medical and health benifits along with drawing SS money if their partner was to die.

There is in fact nothing courageous about claiming a sin is good. Real courage is submitting to God for help and healing. This apparently is something most people with deep seated SSA have difficulty in doing. … **Worse still is when they embrace it **according to the Bible. Such is the case of people coming out of the “closet”.
I don’t know the Sam case, and don’t refer to it here. But it should be noted that admitting one experiences SSA is not the same things as “embracing” it or rejoicing in it. Certainly, some people - typically the “famous cases” - on coming out do that.

Others, such as posters on this very thread, have admitted the experience, and are clear that it is an unwelcome experience, and one with which they battle.

Many more are in the “unwelcome experience, battle with it” camp, share their situation with a select few.

Civil unions can be between chaste roommates too. They often will want the legal advantages that civil unions provide.
And a civil union is not a Church function. It is a government activity and “render to Caesar that which is Caesar’s…”

That’s theoretically possible but I am not sure that this form of civil union exists anywhere as of today. There have been some Catholic theologians who have posited, however, that civil unions* might *be tolerated by the Church if they were offered to all people (not just “couples”) including roommates, friends relatives or any two people that could gain a civil benefit.

Part of the problem is the word “union” which implies an emotional relationship rather than a more neutral word such a “contract”.

Good catch, I saw Yahoo changed the title.

I still don’t get why the church needs to “study” civil unions? We already know that the reason gays want to marry is to have equal right as heterosexuals. Either we agree or disagree with this opinion.
They already have equal rights to marry someone of the opposite sex.

I’ve read this thread twice, yesterday I replyed, but I think I failed to submit. I’m now
at a point that is where I think Pope Francis is seeking to bring us. Let me use an example; an adulterest male or female is recieving Mass just ahead of you, a major sin
but the few that are aware of that persons behavior are not, because of any number of reasons, going to out that person. St Paul speaks to fornication and Jesus, directly to adultery. Of the sins, where do we place these folks, it is also about unseen sexual behavior. The Pope would that we stop judging by our imagination because the man may be a littlle effeminate or the gal a bit macho, Or that they travel with people of like traites
It is not ours to JUDGE, this group of writers needs to read what they are saying.

Not necessarily. If the hospital doesn’t have a copy of the living will, then they would most likely go with next of kin. Marriage makes someone your first next of kin.
