Pope's Latin mass plans spark concern

As soon as the SSPX and the Holy See are reconciled, you will want to find your nearest SSPX location.
I can already attend Latin Mass either NO or Tridentine in my diocese. I see no reason to mingle with schismatics or ex-schismatics in their “chapels,” “temples,” or whatever.

I find it interesting that liberals will do anything under the sun to accomodate Muslims, Buddhists, Hindus, and Protestants–ooo but make a policy decision to accomodate the SSPX–it’s outrage to them. Ugh.

I already have a TLM and there is no SSPX chapel nearby, but if they were reconciled I would have no problem going to an SSPX Mass, just like I would have no problem going to a former Anglican parish that was reconiled (and uses the Anglican Use). I also have no problem going to Byzantine or Chaldean Catholic parishes–they were formerly schismatics a few hundred years ago as well.

Forgive and you will be forgiven 🙂

Rich,

I think the original poster is looking for more than a Mass said in a classical language.

Sure, but, the Chaldeans and Byzantines and Anglican Use parishes have separate or at least differing rites. Are the SSPX people going to have their own Rites?

Oh, I don’t know. I don’t think so. The Roman rite has always had multiple liturgies, like the Ambrosian for example. I think the SSPX would be treated like an order within the Roman rite who’s charism is using the old sacraments. I don’t see a problem really–they would be similar to the FSSP if not combined with them in some fashion. Switching parishes to an SSPX parish would not be a big deal like switching rites. I was just talking about attending those others once in a while, not switching rites.

In a way. My understanding of what Pope Benedict discussed in his meeting with Bishop Fellay last year was that the SSPX would be granted an apostolic administration whereby they would not come under the jurisdiction of the local ordinary, but would have their own jurisdiction with a chain that answers to the Pope. Kinda like how the Catholic military bases currently have an ordinary, which is not the diocesan ordinary.

A model of how it would work might be seen in the Institute of the Good Shepard, a group of former SSPX priests who just recently were reconciled with Rome and have their own church and seminary in France, outside of the jurisdiction of the local Bishop, and answering to Ecclesia Dei.

Please remember us in your prayers.

If you’re ever in Pittsburgh, come to where I belong, The Piitsburgh Latin Mass Community. www.pittsburghlatinmass.com. Confessions before every mass, up till the Sanctus. Until I started going there, I’d never seen a confession line so long that people were turned away! It’s like that at both the high and low masses, every Sunday! Rosary before every mass, too. We have an amazing chaplain and assisting priests. I’m so grateful for the TLM. It’s a treasure! Our diocese is sede vacante right now (Wuehrl went to D.C. to take over for McCarrick) so we’ve been praying for a new bishop who would be friendly to the TLM. If the universal indult becomes official, we may not have to worry!
I go to St. Boniface/Holy Wisdom for the TLM sometimes. It is a beautiful church. I love the old liturgy.

Let’s get that altar back like it should be so the priest has his back to the worshippers, put the communion rail back where it belongs, say the Mass in Latin and ring the sanctus bell to wake up the sleepers so they will pay attention, like we used to do when I was a boy; also, this thing of having real estate salespersons, dental assistants. day care providers, mail carriers, and grocery store check-out clerks, and other laity acting as eucharistic ministers has to go. Only ordained clergy should be allowed to do this. And, let’s get those confessionals back. I want to see Catholics lined up for confession on Saturday nights - not these group “reconciliations.”
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMEN.

Plus ties and veils on women. 😃

I would cough up my life savings to pay to put the altar in my church back against the wall, and the tabernacle directly behind it. (It wouldn’t cover a 1/100th of the cost, but I would :P)

Any priest can call on his parishioners to dress more formally at Mass. I’ve noticed that dress varies by parish, and it seems to be the black parishes where the folks attend Mass better dressed. I personally always wear a jacket and tie, though not usually a suit, to Mass. My wife always wears a hat to Mass as she has done for decades. She thinks those hankies on the head that the schismatic women wear are ridiculous. Surely they can afford a decent hat that does justice to their clothing and shows respect at the same time. Just our opinions.

Cool! I was just there tonight, for mass and First Friday Devotions. I hope to be there tomorrow morning for mass and First Saturday Devotions, too. Make sure you come for Christmas Vigil, it’s so absolutely gorgeous. We might even have some of our deacons home for the holiday from the Fraternity of St. Peter in Rome. I attended the TLM for nearly a year before I saw a high mass with deacons; it’s even more beautiful!

A LOT of non-schismatic women wear them too. Every single one at my indult parish.

Edit: Excuse me, I forgot that there is one lady who wears a hat. 😛

Surely you aren’t that ignorant.

When I was in grade school if a girl forgot her chapel veil the Nuns would pin a Kleenex on her head. I always wondered how having a Kleenex on ones head honored God?

Yes, and in the military when a young recruit forgets/loses their hat they are often forced to walk around with their left hand on their head simulating the missing head gear. It’s called reinforcement.

Just a simple question…since so many churches had to suffer renovation that tore out the altars and had the priest turned around at a free standing “altar”, what about the priest facing East when offering the Holy Mass? Do we have a problem here?
