In my opinion, if you want to use that definition you are sapping the historical meaning out of the word Protestant. Now exactly how far that term should apply historically, taking into account numerous split of splits, I don’t have a clear answer. Somewhere along the line “christian cult” hits the scene, but this is for labeling purposes and doesn’t help much when actually engaging with said individuals.

And since they don’t realize the protesting part (whether Protestant or not), labeling them such, especially against their will, doesn’t do seem to do much practical good.
If you are against the Catholic church and it’s teachings, you are a Protestant, whether you or they, like it or not. It is what it is.

AND THE LORD ADDED TO THE CHURCH DAILY SUCH AS SHOULD BE SAVED" (ACTS 2:47) KJV
Note the singular “the church”.

The interpretation of church in this scripture is “community”, or group. It’s not a structure “church” is the collective of those who believe the TRUTH, which is interpreted as teachings, GOD, and Jesus.
**Says who, you? Who teaches you these things. Christ taught his church, the Catholic church in which he established. Even though I so clearly give you the words of Christ, you reject them…🤷 **

But you are a Protestant. Anyone against the Catholic church but not for it, is a Protestant. You are P-r-o-t-e-s-ting the Catholic church…you don’t even realize it.

IT is only through your negative “opinion” that you can say that.

I’m not protesting, I’m sharing the Truth. Just because you can’t see it, doesn’t mean it’s not so.
But you are NOT in fact sharing the truth. The truth lies with the Catholic church. That’s it. period.

f you are against the Catholic church and it’s teachings, you are a Protestant, whether you or they, like it or not. It is what it is.

The above is untrue. Don’t you remember the brief story about when the disciples ran up to Jesus and said LORD, those men over there are healing and casting out demons and they are not a part of us? Jesus said, " if they aren’t against us, they are for us".

That can be applied to this forum also. Just because people don’t believe exactly as you do, it doesn’t mean they do not love GOD or JESUS or do not follow the commandments and teachings. It’s rather negative of you to think otherwise. Being negative only tells that you are doubtful and are afraid of what you believe, that you must defend it. The TRUTH is what it is TRUTH and it doesn’t need defending no matter what level the Truth is being spoken.

GOD and JESUS built bridges narrowing the gap between people, so they can be gathered and stand as ONE PEOPLE.

I pray that your heart widens to accept those who also know the truth, so there is ONE FAMILY under the LIVING GOD, not a million.

John 7:24 Jesus is speaking. Quit judging by external standards, and judge by true standards.

What this means is do not judge by human standards, judge by spiritual ones.

Jeremiah 17:10 GOD is speaking I, the LORD search the minds and test the hearts of people. I treat each of them according to the way they live, according to what they do.

Do you want to know what the distinguishing signs and characteristics of a true church is? It is Unity, holiness, Catholicity, and Apostolicity are the signs of a true church. There can be no doubt Christ at least intended Unity to be one of the outstanding signs of the true church. Even Protestants admit that. Yet since they want to be regarded as member’s of Christ’s church even while they are divided externally from each other, and above all from the Catholic church, they have to think out a special scheme of unity adjusted to their circumstances.
If only we can believe that all Christ’s references to unity are concerned with invisible bonds of Grace, and love, and good intentions all will be well. So they kept repeating such expressions as, “We all intended to serve Christ”, or “We are all going the one road”, as though the one Christ or the one road idea perfectly safeguarded the unity intended by the founder of Christianity.
Unity in belief does not matter. The Episcopalian who believes in Episcopacy and the Presbyterian who does not believe in Episcopy rejoices in all the unity that is required.
The Seventh Day Adventist who believes that the pope is the 666 of Revelation and the Catholic who believes that he is the very vicar of Christ–but no, that won’t do. It is hardly fair to bring the Catholic church into it. Our Protestant forefathers had to leave Roman Catholicism, and any talk of unity with Catholicism, is of course, absurd. Protestants mean unity amongst themselves only–and in that unity, unity of belief does not matter.

Not helpful. We should try to bring people closer to the Catholic Church instead of pushing them away. You can be faithful and uncompromising to the truth without using negative labels (even if the label is technically true or not). I used to say things in a similar way; lay the “truth” out no matter what and let the chips fall where they may, no matter who is hurt… they’ll just have to deal with it. There is some truth to this, but that doesn’t mean I have to lose my brain while speaking the truth. Ie. I can refrain from remarks that criticise others directly, and instead engage with what the person says.

Obviously these types of remarks happen all the time and almost give forums in general their life-blood. But it needn’t be so! Think of how many people we can prevent from storming off saying sarcastically, “Wow, you’re Christian!”… something I see sooooooooo much.

St. Paul says somewhere (hehe, soo typical of me) that he is all things to all so that he may save at least some.
To debate with me is to debate with Christ. To be ignorant of Scripture, is ignorant of Christ. There are 30,000 denominations and ONE, ONE Catholic church in which has existed since the time of Christ and has stood 2,000 years. Doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure it out.🤓 :newidea:
To debate with you is not to debate with Christ in the same sense that being ignorant of the scriptures is ignorant of Christ… unless I misunderstood and you just mean that you got His back.

Also, don’t use the 30,000 denominations figure as it is likely wrong. There is some manipulation of data and caveats, so it is just better to say that there are many denominations. More than one denomination should be enough to get the point across… the 30,000 figure is shock tactics and shouldn’t be used.

Again, it is better to use more charitable language. I guess I have to point this out to you. Calling someone dumb is not going to bring someone closer to the Catholic Church. “What???” you say? By saying it’s something that doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out, you are basically saying that person is dumb… that’s the common connotation despite what the words literally mean apart from each other. Please be more careful.

peace,
Michael

The same can be said to you as well.

I’m not debating, I’m not creating an argument, as I am well aware that is against GOD’S ways. It is only through your negativity, that you feel that I am debating. It’s really sad to see that you can’t tell truth when you read it, unless it comes from something similar to what you know. That shows fear, as well as you not really knowing the scriptures or GOD or Jesus. All you know is what you have learned from “others opinions”, and not direct from GOD.

The problem with any organized religion is they rely upon mortal beings for education, because they are afraid to allow GOD to be their teacher. Why? Because they don’t know how to discern whether it’s GOD speaking or someone else. They are afraid of what may not be familiar to them.

It saddens my heart to meet people who say they love GOD and Jesus Christ, follow their teachings but yet they don’t TRUST them enough to have them as their teachers.

People of biblical times and people of modern times are the same, they would rather depend on each other, rather than trusting and depending on GOD MOST HIGH or HIS Anointed Son.

This is the last I’m posting on this thread.

I am not Catholic, Protestant, Baptist, HOly Roller, Jahovah’s witness or belong to any other organized religion. All I am is a Child of GOD, who has learned from HIM how to listen to HIM when HE speaks. I live in complete obedience to all HIS laws and commandments. I am HIS Child.

Yes, one family under the same roof/church. Unity of belief is an important part of this process.

Minor quibble, but for the sake of clarity it would be better to say, “judge by spiritual standards as God sees them.” Humans are matter and soul, so spiritual standards don’t necessarily mean God’s standards. But we agree, on this point.

But you seem to be ignoring the greater problem of the Church as the body of Christ. Not just a metaphor but a deep and true reality. Are you trying to say that the incarnation of Christ was just a spiritual one? That doesn’t quite work.

God gave us an intellect and a will. So I hope by what you say you aren’t downplaying the role of intellect. One example of this is the “brute/blind faith” method where someone believes what a book says because of some feeling of some sort. Some people even go as far as to say, “just have faith”… but faith in what? Faith in faith? That’s doesn’t quite work.

peace,
Michael

Well, its true. Just cause you say the Church is the true church does not make it truth, it makes it a opinoin.
Yes, but at least give him the benefit of the doubt that he has at least a educated opinion on the subject… that he could explain if asked to.

Well that’s completely untrue.

You capitalized the word “Protestant” - that makes it a proper noun, not merely some generic person who objects to the RCC

"n.
A member of a Western Christian church whose faith and practice are founded on the principles of the Reformation, especially in the acceptance of the Bible as the sole source of revelation, in justification by faith alone, and in the universal priesthood of all the believers.

A member of a Western Christian church adhering to the theologies of Luther, Calvin, or Zwingli.

One of the German princes and cities that supported the doctrines of Luther and protested against the decision of the second Diet of Speyer (1529) to enforce the Edict of Worms (1521) and deny toleration to Lutherans."

Michael, GOD has never been a mortal being, HE Is and always has been a Spirit, so HIS understanding and judgment is Spiritual.

Yes GOD gave us Intellect and gifted us free will.

There is a scripture in Proverbs that says You can pay you way to school and still have no common sense. So Intellect really doesn’t have value with GOD unless it is used to seek HIM, and HIS ways, not the ways of mortal beings.

Free Will is to be used to seek GOD, or not. It is useless for anything else.

To debate with me is to debate with Christ.

Uh - no. To debate you, is to debate YOU - an anonymous poster on the internet with funny ideas.

To debate God would be a completely different thing.

That makes the RCC merely one of 30,000 denominations.

You’ll have to try harder to impress… maybe you could claim that you actually are God. See if that works.

Ugg, we agreed with the point about judging things spiritually. But you are talking to human beings, not God… I was trying to prevent further confusion from other humans. Alas!

I’m glad we agree about the Proverbs quote, it lends quite nicely to my original issue. The Church is the body of Christ, visible and invisibile that is primarily linked concretely together (and if you haven’t guessed by now, I would say manifests primarily as the Catholic Church). Body and soul, intimately connected. To suggest otherwise would seem to make light of the Incarnation. Which leads nicely into my next sentence… 😉

But I now take issue with:
Michael, GOD has never been a mortal being
So Jesus is not God (singular)?

peace,
Michael

What makes you think I didn’t? Really, I stated the truth that he doesn’t speak truth in his OP, he just stated a opinoin of truth.

Why did Jesus change Simon’s name to Rock?

Why did Jesus give Simon the keys to the Kingdom?

Jesus did not change Simon’s name to Rock. HE called him a rock, because he was solid in truth, or the truth was solid within him. see verse 16

The keys were given to him because he proved to Jesus that he loved and trusted GOD. Simon had faith.
Well, sorry, but yes he did. Peter means Rock, and that is what he was called after Jesus changed his name.

Did Jesus have a purpose for giving Peter the keys, or was it just an off hand comment?

Why Peter and not John, for instance? What did it mean?

Lastly, If people owned the Truth within their hearts, as GOD says they do, it wouldn’t be debated. Truth speaks for itself, doesn’t need to be proved, or justified.
Where does God say that people own the Truth within their hearts?

What makes you think I didn’t? Really, I stated the truth that he doesn’t speak truth in his OP, he just stated a opinoin of truth.
And what’s to stop me from saying that the truth you just stated is just an opinion about his opinion. It doesn’t look like it adds to the discussion, other than perhaps an indirect way of saying you have no argument.

Epistemology is very complicated; I vote that it’d be better to focus on the arguments he sets forth. Perhaps you don’t think the OP was an argument, but I think there is definitely sufficient material to argue about. An argument can be good or bad in terms of its validity and soundness, but that shouldn’t necessarily stop someone from engaging it… especially on a forum, a euphemism for argumentation.

peace,
Michael

Well, for one, I do speak truth on that statement. He did speak opinoins. Now if they believe he is some kind of Prophet, and he does speak truth without factual info, then by all means, call my statement false.

Their is no way I can debate the OP. He posts opinoins, and the only thing I could reply to is Opinoins, and I am not here for opinoins. (I am mis-spelling opinoin I think, but sorry)
