What the apostles knew or did not know IS irrelevant. And you make my point. That priest, and YOU, are NOT Jesus, and therefore are not more righteous than HE. Sacrilege, (BTW with an “e”, not an “a”), has nothing to do with this woman’s immortal soul. The MAIN paramount concern in, and about communion, is participation in communion with the Lord, and the Body of Christ, and not about"giving scandal". Time and time again, Jesus showed us in the gospels, that “giving scandal”, was unimportant to Him.
I do not understand your point. As a man, the priest cannot judge her soul, he can only judge objective facts. The objective fact is, that as a practicing lesbian who has left the practice of her faith and is practicing Budhism, she is not properly disposed to receive Communion.

Thank you for correcting my spelling. But sacrilege has a great deal to do with this woman’s soul. [BIBLEDRB]1 corinthians 11:29[/BIBLEDRB]

Exactly! For those who are properly disposed.

One thing to remember is that the priest acted in the woman’s best interest also. The Eucharist does not convey grace to those who partake like this, but rather, according to St. Paul, damnation. He said that this particular sacrilege was responsible for the illness, and even the death of some.

When can we expect the Bishop to retract his statement and apologize to the Priest? Next time, let all the facts come out before making rash statements that throw one of your Priests under the bus. Oh and im glad to see this updated story is all over cnn, msnbc, foxnews, etc. :rolleyes: This addition to the story doesn’t fit in to well with their hatred of everything Catholic.

Seconded.

Also agreed.

If she’s a buddhist… then why would she WANT to take communion? As for the lesbian thing… well that pretty much speaks for itself.

🍿
I think the bishop needs to apologize for apologizing and then apologize to the priest. 😉

I work in a parish, and one day at lunch a couple of the ladies in the office were going on and on about what this priest did. (they didn’t agree with it) I simply commented that we probably didn’t know the whole story.

For the opportunity to commit a sacrilegious act, and to gain publicity in doing so.
“I was forewarned, and now any problems I might have would surely be of my own making, and most likely, in need of my own solutions,” she wrote. “The decision was mine to make, and I made it with all the zeal and enthusiasm of any naturally born agitator who every now and again enjoys challenging the status quo. And how could I not take this opportunity to challenge this status quo where our laws ‘facilitate and nurture an educational system where schools are able to use tax money [or in this case government voucher money] to speak about respect while modeling bigotry’?”
… Johnson introduced herself and her “lover” to Fr. Guarnizo before the ceremony. She then reportedly stormed out, with her lesbian partner blocking the door. After being denied the Eucharist by Fr. Guarnizo, Johnson went into another line and received Holy Communion from an Extraordinary Minister.

Siddhartha Guatama, the Buddha, would not have condoned the affrontery of this woman’s attempted sacrilege. If she is indeed a Buddhist, she needs to follow her masters teaching more closely.

**Look. Let’s get real here. This woman is a child of God.
She likely had ONE interaction with the Christian community, at a time in her life when she had a right to expect compassion, empathy, and gentle acceptance.
What did she get ?

Rejection.

Matthew 22:37-40
Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”**

You obviously have not read about the woman. She teaches at a Catholic school and says she was baptized Catholic and rejects the Church. To claim that this was her ONE interaction with the Christian community is pure ignorance on your part.

No, what she got was mercy. The woman, who as you pointed out is a child of God, is also a practicing lesbian and Buddhist. The priest was informed of being a lesbian prior to the start of Mass. At this point, he asked her not to present herself for communion. She chose not to follow his request and presented herself anyway at which point, he quietly informed her that she could not receive communion.
1 Corinthians:
Therefore whosoever shall eat this bread, or drink the chalice of the Lord unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and of the blood of the Lord. But let a man prove himself: and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of the chalice. For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh judgment to himself, not discerning the body of the Lord.
Haydock Commentary:
The real presence in the sacrament is also proved by the enormity of the crime, in its profanation. The unworthy receiver imitates the Jews in crucifying Jesus, and trampling under foot his sacred blood. Hence the dreadful punishments we read of in verses 27 and 30.
The spiritual works of mercy are:

To instruct the ignorant;
To counsel the doubtful;
To admonish sinners;
To bear wrongs patiently;
To forgive offences willingly;
To comfort the afflicted;
To pray for the living and the dead.

The liberal whine about people being judgmental has beneath it a sandy foundation of relativism–that there is no right and wrong, and what the relativist can’t really understand is that it is possible to judge actions and beliefs without judging the person who holds them.
If a person says, “I’m a Christian, but I don’t believe that Jesus rose from the dead.” I can judge their beliefs. They are not actually a Christian. They are a heretic. That’s just an objective call. The same is true of moral actions. “I’m living with my boyfriend” says a young girl. When you object she cries, “You’re being judgemental!!”
That’s right. Like I’m judging the heretic’s beliefs, I’m judging your actions. They are immoral according to the teaching of the Catholic Church.
What I’m not doing is judging you. That is, I’m not judging the state of your mortal soul. I don’t know if you’re damned or not. To say you’re going to hell would be to make a judgement. That’s for God to do.
Catholics should be the most objective about this because we have clear teaching both doctrinally and morally. We should be able to say quite honestly and openly that someone is “living in sin” if they are or that someone is “a heretic” if they are. It doesn’t mean we have to be mean to that person or shun them or be constantly disapproving.
We might have to distance ourselves if we have the consciences of young children to protect, but we are tolerant. We let them make their own decisions. We don’t impose a way of life on them. We don’t rant and holler and blow and have steam coming out our ears. We make the objective call and leave the rest to God.
I’m not an admirer of Bridey–the prig of a brother in Brideshead Revisited, but we can at least admire his objectivity. He understood mortal sin. He understood the objectivity of Catholic theology and moral teaching. What he lacked, however, was mercy.
Mercy is the quality that allows us to judge an action or a belief and yet still embrace and love the person who has made the mistake. The point of today’s gospel is that everyone deserves that mercy. There is usually more than meets the eye. There may be circumstances and intentions that mitigate the guilt. There may be ignorance and inability that inhibits grace. There may be good reasons for the person’s error or sin.
Everyone deserves to be given the benefit of the doubt, and if we don’t grant others mercy…
…we will be denied that mercy ourselves.
By all accounts the priest was quite gentle with her and handled things very discretely.

How inhuman do you have to be to turn your mother’s funeral into a farce?

You know, that is a very astute observation. At my mother’s funeral, I could barely breathe, let alone scheme and plan. Horrifying.

This poor Priest was doing EXACTLY what he was supposed to do. I really cannot understand the mindset of someone who would go to such legnths to “set up” a Priest, especially the Priest that was celebrating the Funeral Mass for MY OWN MOTHER? MY OWN MOTHER?? The hatred and vindictiveness is something to behold. Something that I really cannot wrap my head around.

There is an email address of the Bishop at the bottom of the article. I did email him myself asking if he would kindly publish an apology to Fr.
