You can quote all you want, you wont sway my opinion here. my sister is a single mom and went through hell for it. not from my family but from everyone. Nosy old bats at Walmart touching her stomache, noticing no wedding band and asking her if she was gonna be married before or after the baby, dirty looks from nurses and doctors througout her pregnancy and delivery. shes the bravest woman i know. she could have done the easy cowardly thing and ran for the nearest planned parenthood but she didnt. this girl did the right thing and i absolutely commend her for it. I dont believe anyone other than a priest, the Pope, my parents or God himself has the right to tell me what to do and just expect my unquestioning submission. This girl is brave! she has guts and gall and that will take her far in life. God Bless her for it.

QUOTE: "1899 The authority required by the moral order derives from God: “Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. Therefore he who resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment.”

does that mean a german soldier in WW2 given orders to kill civilians make the soldier not culpable for his actions?

We are not Protestants, we have to look at the whole context.

1903 Authority is exercised legitimately only when it seeks the common good of the group concerned and if it employs morally licit means to attain it. If rulers were to enact unjust laws or take measures contrary to the moral order, such arrangements would not be binding in conscience. In such a case, "authority breaks down completely and results in shameful abuse.

How brave it is to follow the culture of today and put your personal feelings above order!

Your sister has nothing to do with the issue. Truth is not subject to feelings.

My sister has everything to do with this issue for me. my experiances help form my opinion. my opinion is allowed in a forum like this. i am sorry but i dont see the gain for anyone in this situation. shaming this girl only gave the impression to other students that its ok to judge and shame others. she deserved to walk, im glad she did. the school should be ashamed of themselves. what ever happened to Christian charity and kindness. im with Space Ghost on this one. “the holier than thous will get theirs”

And forget order. Right is Right. Christs disciples didnt exactly follow order did they?? they did what they thought was right. martors dont exactly follow orders do they? if they did they wouldnt be martors. Order isnt what has ALWAYS achieved good, sometimes you have to go against the crowd to do the right thing.

Ok, I get it…so anyone who has **visible **signs of sin should not be able to graduate in a Catholic high school.

Again, we don’t know the whole truth with regard to the situation.

What inherent right is there to walk across a stage and have you name mentioned whilst wearing a robe? How does not allowing one to do such deprive them of their natural rights?

When you make a “right” out of every little thing, everything becomes a “right”. For perfect example; the “right” for a woman to kill her pre-born child. Her “right” to “choice” trumps the child’s RIGHT to live!

It is an insult to humanity to take trivial things and call them “rights”.

We need to learn to detach our feelings fro situations and examine them in the light of Truth.

The best thing that could happen to our culture would be for everyone to get over this libertine mentality that everyone is entitled to everything they want.

OK lets take a deep breathe here. IN and OUT whhhhheeeewwww. feel better? good! I never said it was a natural right, I said she stood up for herself and what WAS RIGHT. not what was A right. I dont think it has anything to do with entitlement. she worked hard she earned her grades, there fore she earned the priveledge to recieve her diploma and celebrate graduation with her friends. sorry Trelow, youre not going to change my mind here. i have two friends who are single mothers including my sister, they are BEYOND brave and i pity anyone who looks down on them for a mistake they made which they owned up to and took responsibility for.

Tarashly,

I agree that the father should have been held accountable as well and I have so many times.

I strongly disagree with your “she is brave” line. I think she is a public sinner and very proud of that fact. I see no difference between her and gay men who wear rainbow sashes to Church in protest. She and the father commited a very grave sin and many people are applauding her courage. How can we ever expect to convert our culture if we think fornication is something to be proud of?

🙂 No insult intended.

katnerine2,

Wrong! Both the girl and the boy should have been told not to walk, theschool made a huge mistake by applying it only to the mother, the father is every bit involved. This is NOT about womens rights or modernists agendas, it is about proclaiming our sins to the public and expecting to be treated with honor for doing so.

I am really having a hard time believeing that capable intelligent adults believe this girl was up there to be applauded for being pregnant, she was up there to be applauded for graduating high school along with the rest of her class.

No insult intended 🙂

spaceghost,

I agree, we are to forgive 70 times 70. This would not have been an issue if the girl did not throw it in our faces–we would not even know about it. Yet, she chose to make her obvious fornication public, so she should also be ready to here the music. She sinned (we all do) and then she tossed in the face of her school, her educators and to the American public and she expects to be honored.

tarashly,

Doing the right thing does not include spitting in the face of your superiors. It also does not include taking yout sin and elevating it to a place of honor. She was flat wrong to defiantly walk as she did. She earned the diploma, she lost her chance at walking. There are always consequences for our sins and this girl (and evidently the boy as well) wants there to be no consequences at all.

im not saying she should be honored, but she should be forgiven and not shunned. SHAME is what causes most young girls to get abortions, if we dont change that mind frame and we embarass and humiliate and shame and scrutinize every girl who makes that mistake, abortion will always be seen as a better way out. we shouldnt accept extramarital sex, however we should try and be Christ like, forgive them, nurture them and try to help them to “go and sin no more”

oh give me a break! how is her school her superiors? again with the holier than thou garbage! her elders maybe…her superiors?? in whos eyes? The school just wanted to say “look we’re a Catholic high school with no problems look how perfect we are” the only way to do that is to hide away the pregnant girl. the boy walked. the girl didnt. thats just plain wrong!

I strongly disagree with your statements on this post. I think the only difference between a public sinner and a private sin is the self-rightouesness of the private sinner to think that his or her sins has less of a detrimental effect on the church’s flock than a public sinner. All sin is a seperation from grace. The baby is not a sin. pregnancy is not a sin. The act of fornication is the sin, but who is to say that hasn’t been confessed long ago. Making her soul as clean as morning snow? The sin of pride is on those that judge her as being unworthy to walk alongside other classmates because of past sins. Those that judge her are evildoers according to scripture, the only difference is they give wordy testement to the fact.
Holier than thou attitudes really suck, in this authors humble opinion. Its the intention of those that judge to appear to speak from a seat of authority they haven’t been granted. That is a public sin.
I’m sure any male on this board has masturbated (a mortal, grave sin) more than she has fornicated. (ditto). Don’t judge, makes you look like a fool.
Humility… now there is a lost grace.

:clapping: well put my friend. well put.

thechrismyster,

If this had happened in my backyard, I would never say a word because it is not my place to judge anyone–that is a fact!

However, this walking across the stage in sinful defiance is something that the school has every right to control.

This is about how Catholic schools should respond to these situations, it is not about what I think.

Who says that school officials, such as teachers and principals, are in positions of authority over students? Well, that would be the Catholic Church, for starters. From the CCC:

The fourth commandment is addressed expressly to children in their relationship to their father and mother, because this relationship is the most universal. It likewise concerns the ties of kinship between members of the extended family. It requires honor, affection, and gratitude toward elders and ancestors. Finally, it extends to the duties of pupils to teachers, employees to employers, subordinates to leaders, citizens to their country, and to those who administer or govern it.

This commandment includes and presupposes the duties of parents, instructors, teachers, leaders, magistrates, those who govern, all who exercise authority over others or over a community of persons.

Humility, huh? You mean like a student submitting in humility to the authority of her school to deny her the privilege to walk across the stage at graduation?
