You have ask yourself a very simple question. “Does my faith form my politics or does my politics form my faith”?

The idea that we have to check our brains at the door to be Catholic is specious. And yes, we should put the teachings of the church ahead of the Constitution and Bill of rights-however I personally see no conflict between them
lmao you’re not getting what I’m saying what I’m saying is we need to live our own lives and leave everyone else alone.

This is a forum for discussing. So far, you have mischaracterized every post here.

Please address what was actually said rather than repeating talking points.

Thank you and God Bless.
well that’s all that I’m getting… in my mind what you guys are trying to do is put Christian beliefs into the government and that’s not right.

yes and everyone else is going to live by our views right? and if they don’t well we should force it on them right?
I don’t recall forcing a distorted definition of marriage on anyone. As Catholics we don’t have to sit idly by and yet the culture mock our institutions and suppress our beliefs. You seem quite comfortable with secularists forcing their beliefs on us but oppose us fighting back? I have just as much right to promote my views as do those who have no faith-and I have the creator of the universe watching my back. Ill take those odds any day

Any time the government grants special rights and privileges, it leaves somebody out.

So unless you abolish marriage laws across the board, you are imposing a view on people who disagree with you that X relationship is more deserving than Y relationship. Or in the case of some privileges, that people in relationships at all are more deserving than single people.

again this isn’t a Christian nation this is a multicultural nation filled with people of many different religions. what you wanna do is turn this nation into a Christian nation and that’s not how it is meant to be. you can promote your views but you can’t promote putting religious views into the government.

So Jesus was wrong when he instructed us otherwise? Can you find anything in the teachings of our church that supports your view? Does your view mean I am relieved of my personal responsibility to help the poor and needy?

is everybody in this nation a Christian? I think you know the answer to that one and even the vast majority people who call themselves “Christians” live a very sinful life

I see no problem with secular gay marriage or pagan gay marriages just keep it out of the church there’s a separation of church and state for a reason.

What about Jesus? Should he have just let all those Hebrews alone? Had he shut up and just lived his own life, he certainly would have not been crucified.

How would you address St. Paul’s missionary journeys? Do you think he should have stayed in Jerusalem and left all those Corinthians and Ephesians alone? He certainly would have saved his life had he done that.

What about the saints who were martyred for trying to spread Christianity and were fed to the lions? Were they “forcing” people to adopt Christianity?

There is no separation of church and state in this country. It is not in the Constitution.

What religion? The promotion of traditional marriage doesn’t require belief in any religion or God at all. You can be a completely unaffiliated agnostic or atheist or humanist and want the government to set aside certain rights to natural families.

actually there is a separation of church and state in this nation
Even if that were true so what? how does that change my obligations as set forth by Jesus and his Church? Do I ignore all the teachings of the Church or just those that interfere with my politics?

no that does not change your obligations what you need to do is realize that this is a sinful world and you’re not going to change everybody and this nation has laws and putting religion into the government is illegal and unconstitutional

This article has nothing to do with our Constitution. Please state where in the United States Constitution one can find this “separation of church and state.”
it doesn’t but in other documents like the Treaty of Tripoli and others it does and those documents were created by the founding fathers.

Establishment of a state religion is illegal. Not “putting religion into the government”. Promoting traditional marriage doesn’t have to be linked to religion at all, let alone the establishment of a state religion.
