In related news, after Sam posted pictures of himself kissing his male partner, a player from the Miami Dolphins tweeted “OMG” and “horrible” in response to the picture. The Dolphins fined and suspended that player and sent him to sensitivity training. No joke. USA Today story.
Good. I’m hoping Pouncey is in trouble for his tweet too. (Not about Sam-it was about the team drafting Jawaun James).

The Dolphins really don’t need another PR nightmare because their players just couldn’t be normal, gracious people. I’m glad to see the team making respectability and sportsman like conduct a priority.

How do you think your company would respond if you starting making negative, unsolicited, public statements about your new coworker’s family or romantic life?

IMO, the objectionable thing about the tweet was not that, but that it was expressed immaturely/insensitively.

If he had respectfully expressed that as a Christian (or w/e he is) he believes same-sex kissing is objectionable, something tells me the team would not have responded with a punishment.

I wonder what will happen now if fans simply boo (not shout epithets, slurs, etc) Michael Sam ?

If that new co-worker was being hired and publicly celebrated and congratulated because of his “romantic life” when more qualified applicants were passed up in favor of “diversity”, I’d have more of an issue with the company.

Maybe. I don’t know. I still have a hunch that they would have gotten him for making unsolicited public comments on his coworker’s personal life-especially with the issues the Dolphins have had lately.

Let’s face it, no one would believe that it was anything but bigotry no matter how he worded it. I certainly wouldn’t. Now, if he’s been using his Twitter to denounce his coworkers’ cohabitation and out of wedlock children (both very common in the NFL), I might believe it was about morality.

The NFL, nor the team, want this kind of publicity right now.

So you believe the Church is wrong about the sinfulness of such behavior? Should I, as a devout catholic, be comfortable with all public displays of grievous sin or just those by homosexuals.
I’m in no way implying that homosexual behavior is not sinful. All I’m stating is that society as a whole is about to grow more accustomed to acts of affection between gays. I admit that I found the photo disturbing, but I also recognize that I can stand to grow more accustomed to such displays of affection even if I still view homosexual behavior as being sinful.

LOVE! ❤️

Not likely. He plays for a gay friendly city very close to where he became a college star. More to the point, his jersey sales are 2nd only to Manziel for rookies. He’s even ahead of Clowney.

Also, NFL fans don’t usually behave that way. It would be pretty embarrassing to be part of a fan base that booed someone just for being gay.

Thank you for clarifying.

I find such photos to be sad Desperate attempts to normalize deviancy. And we don’t have to get accustomed to it.

I don’t know. PDA is a bit different than private/domestic issues. Plenty of people object to hetero PDA. But I do agree with you that it’s unlikely this tweet was about morality.

On what do you base that? The consensus was actually that he deserved to go sooner based on his numbers. The link below provides a good breakdown.

Except that Mr. Sam made his personal life very public.

Did you watch the draft? There is so much PDA. When people get good news, they tend to fall into their loved one’s arms and kiss. It wasn’t about PDA.

It’s not something I would like to get accustomed to.

Most NFL players have made it known who they’re romantically involved with. He didn’t do anything anyone else didn’t. Jones behaved unprofessionally and he disrespected his coworker.

I suspect had he not he wouldn’t have gotten drafted at all.

Really? On what do you base that? You should read the link I posted earlier.

Being an oldster, I don’t like to see overt displays of affection from hetero or monosexuals. That does not mean I am a prude by any means, I just don’t think it is in good taste.
