Priests and cassocks

I suppose you could put it on an outhouse, but you better make sure no-one is inside . . .

My priest always wore his cassock and all the ones near my house do too. I always see them in the stores or walking in the neighborhood. I love
It!

I donā€™t agree with seminarians wearing clericals prior to ordination - itā€™s confusing and premature.

As a priest, I do wear clericals, basically as a means of visible witness to what I do. Granted, itā€™s not really possible to separate inthepew the person from Fr inthepew but that also works both ways. Wearing clericals doesnā€™t make me any different to who I am as a person - it expresses an identity but doesnā€™t create one and definitely doesnā€™t ā€œcover a multitude of personal shortcomingsā€. I will say though that, if nothing else, it probably makes me behave myself! Still, I am a flawed human being and wearing my clericals doesnā€™t change that one little bit nor would I ever want people to think differently. As one bishop I know put it ā€œI canā€™t be Fr X unless Iā€™m already Xā€. A priest can hide behind clericals just as much as he can hide behind not wearing them The interesting thing about living in a small town is of course that many people recognise me even when Iā€™m dressed down which of course highlights the hardest thing about wearing clericals - Iā€™m always on show; everything I do reflects not just on me but on the Church and on the priesthood. then again, thatā€™s not such a bad thing - difficult though it might be - like I sadi, if nothing else, it at least makes me behave myself!
