Where the responses I gave bad regarding the Covenants (not my demeaning comments), or did I just not play his game?
Baptising and teaching them…then what use is there of having a church or pastor.for all know God???why did Christ say "Go to all nations …TEACHING…"since the new covent is in effect everbody knows…notice to Christ says teach them after He tell the apostles to baptise, not teach before baptism but after baptism…either Christ got it wrong or you.my money is on Christ having it right not you,Hisalone.
He is quoting scriptures, but not correctly, and not fully.Where the responses I gave bad regarding the Covenants (not my demeaning comments), or did I just not play his game?
Hisalone=former catholic who has been "enlightened"by non- other then another man??He is quoting scriptures, but not correctly, and not fully.
He needs to look at the scriptures in totality.
I think you or any other catholic more versed than a student as I am can help him/her better, but I will try.
I am confused about the position this poster is taking.
Well, that helps. However, I still am wondering what his new found love has to say on the matter, since faith statements usually include their essentials of belief. I just want to see Hisalone’s faith statement. I have already rejected all non catholic faith statements for one reason or another so far. But, he may be in the one true church. Let’s see.Hisalone=former catholic who has been "enlightened"by non- other then another man??
You did not play his game. He went to bed.Where the responses I gave bad regarding the Covenants (not my demeaning comments), or did I just not play his game?
Would a man like Billy Graham have served the Kingdom better by being a priest? Would those who are seen practically 24/7 have served the Kingdom better by not marrying and by staying within a diocese?I think God calls men to be leaders and shepherds of his flock. Men who are unaware of the truth of the Catholic Church and who were raised in a different faith tradition answer that call to the best of their ability, and some become non-Catholic Christian pastors. I think that’s a good thing, but a thing that could be even better if these men responded by becoming good Catholic priests, and leading their flocks into unity.
Just my two cents.
Peace,

I love that story.Hey HisAlone,
My uncle raised a Catholic, then became JehovahW during college days, finally leading to AOG as a prominent pastor in its church, sincerely believed he was ’ Called by God ’
It was precisely after his mother’s death 7 yrs back that he began to question his belief, for it occured to him that how could the same Holy Spirit produce so many churches driven by ‘called by God’ pastors, that contradict one another & even considering themselves prophets…
He also realized that his ‘called by God’ belief made him compromising, attacking other christian faith and finally preaching what seems right in his mind…But wasn’t he speaking for God ???
His family upbringing had given him to despise self-pride (which dawned on him that It was controlling his mind, heart & emotions…not the holy Spirit) and to respect humility…
6 yrs back he left AOG as a " traitor of Christ " who told the congregation that all that he preached was “somehow not correct” and left.
After 1 yr of depression & soul searching he went to a Catholic Church ( despised by him for 20 yrs) at 1 am, pounded the doors and told the priest " I want some answers from you !!!
Today he is a true blue Catholic, believing in being led by God through His Church and is the most active member of anything Catholic( caritas, world vision, events etc…)He has started discernment for priesthood & plans to join the salesians…
Shun Self-Pride and question Why u criticise something/someone is all he has to say![]()
Jesus prayed fervently to the Father that we be one (John 17:11 and 17:20-22). If we disagree on all sorts of things, we are not one. Well-intentioned, yes, but still divided and Christ’s Sacred Body is weakened. I could open a corner church and be a mediocre pastor, but it would be my ego leading. However, I believe the entire bible - not just selected verses. Thus, I have denied myself, taken up my cross daily, and followed Christ into His Church.Does God call Christians to be protestant pastors ? I think he does I know a number of pastors who were called by God to lead his Flock
He should have been a catholic public speakerWould a man like Billy Graham have served the Kingdom better by being a priest? Would those who are seen practically 24/7 have served the Kingdom better by not marrying and by staying within a diocese?
This is not an easy question to answer, because we do not know the path that he would have followed. For all we know, he could have ended up a Bishop or even Cardinal or Pope, and re-energised American Catholics like no one ever had. Or, God, in his Wisdom, could have had him as a parish priest who becomes a saint or who teaches others to be saints.Would a man like Billy Graham have served the Kingdom better by being a priest? Would those who are seen practically 24/7 have served the Kingdom better by not marrying and by staying within a diocese?
This is untrue. Graham spoke publicly against abortion. Just one quote from his newspaper column (click here) in response to a teenager who had gotten pregnant:He never spoke out against abortion, citing his lofe-long affiliation with the democratic party. His one major flaw, as a man of God, was to put the affairs of men ahead of the least of the Kingdom.
Graham was a spiritual advisor to every president during the time of his active ministry - Democrat and Republican alike. Moreover, not all Democrats embrace abortion.Yes, it was wrong for you to get pregnant—but it also would be wrong for you to end the life of the little child who is growing inside you. I know it’s common today to think of abortion as a simple answer to an inconvenient problem—but it is actually a far more serious issue. Your child isn’t simply a mass of tissue; he or she is a human being in God’s eyes. God told Jeremiah, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart” (Jeremiah 1:5).
I know what you are saying, but then I see these quotes from him. This is untrue. Graham spoke publicly against abortion. Just one quote from his newspaper column (click here) in response to a teenager who had gotten pregnant:
Graham was a spiritual advisor to every president during the time of his active ministry - Democrat and Republican alike. Moreover, not all Democrats embrace abortion.
Pigeonholing folks based on political party or religious affiliation is rarely accurate.
O+
Billy Graham writes: “We should accept abortion in these cases: rape or incest or if the delivery of the child is a threat to a mother’s life.”
In the 1996 copyright revised 2001 edition it says,
Even sincere Christians may differ on whether or not abortion is ever justified, especially in difficult situations such as rape or incest, or when tests reveal that the unborn child has severe abnormalities. (The Billy Graham Christian Worker’s Handbook, p. 21
Concerning the issue of abortion on ABC’s “Good Morning America” (GMA) (9/5/91), Graham, when asked the Christian position on abortion, said: “… there is a Christian position, I think. But I’m not prepared to say what it is.” And, again two weeks later on GMA (9/19/91), Graham said: “But there are occasions when abortion is the only alternative” (although he didn’t say when it is okay to snuff out innocent, unborn human life). (Reported in the 2/22/93, Christian News.)
In an interview in TV Guide (8/6/94), Graham says, when asked about the issues of abortion and homosexuality:
It just seems like he waffled a little too much, at least for my liking.“I don’t get involved in the abortion thing. I agree with the Pope, whom I know well, on abortion. But I just don’t take extreme positions. I preach to unite people. There is a great division in the religious community today. God loves homosexual as much as anyone else. I think homosexuality is a sin, but no greater than idolatry and adultery. In my judgment, it’s not that big.”
Don’t get me wrong, the world is a better place for having him, even if he had only touched one life. He touched millions. There is no doubt that he played a major role in spreading the Gosple.People change, Ralph. That was the point. More to the point, is the wonderful witness of people like Graham and Bishop Sheen - who did a wonderful amount of good.
Why tear them down?
He’s calling me to be the shepherd of a congregation = a pastor. He is probably calling you to be a priest or a devout married person (if your married). If your married and feel a need to spread the good news, then become a public speaker.
My dad was a Lutheran pastor. I’m kinda glad he wasn’t celibate. He’s calling me to be the shepherd of a congregation = a pastor.
I do not yet know if he’s calling me to celibacy also (though I pray heavily that it’s NOT the case…)
I believe that being a shepherd and being married are not mutually exclusive. I can find no biblical basis for a demand for clerical celibacy, and I therefore see no reason for anyone to lay a burden on pastors that Scripture does not. Indeed, I believe it can be argued that Scripture ENCOURAGES (at least!) shepherds to marry, and also assumes it as a matter of fact.
But I don’t want to derail this thread anymore than neccessary.
You can never know. We are glad for what God has given us - our parents, our friends, et al, but we would never know what would have happened in a different situation, different place. I am glad you were born of a Luteran pastor and I am sure you will never trade it for anything else. We all do, though I know from such encounters during ministry work, there are people who rather not be what they are. That kinda sad but that’s how the world is.My dad was a Lutheran pastor. I’m kinda glad he wasn’t celibate.
