Protestants, did Jesus Christ gave us a Church with authority?

Take a look at the Marian doctrines for starters. You don’t see them taught in the NT.

Where do we find anything about contraception in the Scriptures?

Portestant churches that i’m aware of do agree on core doctrines such as the deity of Christ and frogiveness through Him.
The Catholic church on the other hand has made celibacy a requirement for church leadership (denies I Timothy 3:1-13). There are other things that we could discuss but i think this enough for now.
A little test I ran on another website (Protestant) went something like this, and I am going to ask you the same questions.

a) Do you believe that Jesus Christ is a human person?
Code:
                             or
b) Do you deny that Jesus Christ is a human person?

Both Protestants I asked failed miserably. So, if you would be so kind, please answer “a” or “b”. Since, as a Protestant you have only the Bible to fall back on, do not quote any of your spiritual forefathers (Luther, Calvin, etc.) to substantiate your position.
Code:
                         "A" OR "B"
(I’m going to give you a break. Before answering do yourself a favor and research the heresy of Nestorianism)

Ummm . . . the Anglican Church ISN’T a man-made institution? You mean it was founded by Jesus over 2000 years ago?
WRONG.

It was born of divorce - as is ALL Protestantism.
Actually, it was born of annullment, if you make the distinction between it and divorce.

Henry just wanted the same “shameless sentence sent from Rome” that the Vatican had granted his sister Margaret, Queen consort of Scots.

Tomster,
Since your comment which I have bolded is an incorrect understanding of sola scriptura, I choose to answer with the Augsburg Confession:
Also they teach that the Word, that is, the Son of God, did assume the human nature in 2] the womb of the blessed Virgin Mary, so that there are two natures, the divine and the human, inseparably enjoined in one Person, one Christ, true God and true man, who was born of the Virgin Mary, truly suffered, was crucified, dead, and 3] buried, that He might reconcile the Father unto us, and be a sacrifice, not only for original guilt, but also for all actual sins of men.
and the Nicene Creed:
And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of the Father before all worlds, God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God, begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father; by whom all things were made; who for us men, and for our salvation, came down from heaven, and was incarnate by the Holy Ghost of the Virgin Mary, and was made man,
Jon

**All Protestantism - especially the original offshoots/schisms during the Reformation were born of divorce. **
They divorced themselves from the Catholic Church.

The answer is A even though He has another nature.

What is your defintion of a man-made doctrine? What are its characteristics?
Something that emanates from man, without grounding in Sacred Scripture or Sacred Tradition. Examples are Sola Scriptura and Sola Fide.

This passage has nothing do with determining doctrines and such but its about church discipline.
This is what you have been taught to believe, because those who taught you must reject the authority of the Catholic Church. However, if you think about this, you will realize that persons who have not been given authority have no business in charge of church discipline. Furthermore, since most of the problems in Church are related to people not following right doctrine, this should never be separated from discipline. Correct discipline cannot be provided apart from right doctrine. If the people in charge cannot determine the one, then they have no right doing the other!
What was the unity that Christ prayed for to be based on?
The Rock. 👍
Can there be true unity if there is error? Of course no. That’s why the Reformation happen.
The Reformation happened for a number of reasons. However, I agree with you that there is no unity if there is error, and error was committed. However, the wrongdoing of man does not change the Holy Teachings of God. Judas betrayal did not make null the Teachings of Jesus. He chose not to follow them, but that does not make them invalid.
The church was guilty of promoting error even by its own standards.
No.

Sinful men, who are always in need of reform were guilty of promoting error. Yes, by the infallible standards of the church were these sins committed. Rebellion against the authority appointed by Christ is not the answer, though.
How can there be “one faith” when the Catholic church has added and subtracted from what the apostles taught?
I am sure it seems this way to you, since you are missing part of the deposit of faith.
Take a look at the Marian doctrines for starters. You don’t see them taught in the NT.
Well, we do. 😃

However, such a statement is based on the erroneous assumption that all of what they taught is found in the NT. 🤷

Good grist for another thread. Perhaps this is the source of some of your animosity toward the Catholic Church? My experience here has taught me that most of the animosity originates below the waist…

Seems like you have some awareness that will be raised! 👍

No, ja4. Somehow I knew this was going to get recycled again soon. Church leadership is not related to celibacy. In fact, in the West, most parishes are governed by a parish council that is comprised of married couples. The ministry of the priest is sacramental and teaching, and does not require a person who necessarily has leadership ability. Nor is celibacy required to be a pastor. This is an ordinance, a discipline that is used in the Latin Rite primarily. Many priests serve in roles other that parish priest or pastor, and have specific ministries that are not considered leadership, but service. The fact that a priest presides at the Mass does not necessarily make him a good leader either.

I think that it might be time to abandon this worn out lie. Do you really have no concern about bearing false witness against your brother?

Sometime I would like to plunk you in a Coptic Church, and talk to you again a year later, or maybe an Orthodox monastery. I think such an experience would do wonders to get you over your “Roman” bigotry.

Regarding celibacy, JA4 may want to read what Jesus says in Matthew 19:10-12 about some men “becoming eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven” (and Jesus never married), as well as Paul’s recommendation in 1 Cor 7:32-34 how how unmarried men can serve the Lord undividedly. Also read about the the Lamb’s companions in Rev. 14:4 who are virgins.

We have been over this and over this with the ja4 cadre. He (they) choose Paul’s disciplinary instructions to Timothy as a higher guide than the words of Christ. Since they reject the authority that Jesus gave to the Church, they cannot accept that the successors of the Apostles have the authority to change rules of this kind. 🤷

What Catholics all too frequently forget is just how wicked the Catholic Church was pre Reformation.

God who is the same yesterday, today and forever took authority away when the religious rulers were wicked in Isreal. Why would He not do the same in the middle ages?
In fact it is clear that He did.

see 1Sam 4 and Ezekiel 34

no, there were wicked people at work. But wicked people do not nullify the Truth. This is like saying that, because Judas betrayed Christ, all that He taught is made void.

People are always in need of reform. Jesus promised to be with the Church until the end of the age, and he will not deny Himself.

If you look at the context of the passages you use here they are not about the requirements for church leadership. For the requirements for church leadership go to I Timothy 3:1-13

Wrong! Jesus is not a human person. He is a Divine Person.
You are incorrect. Jesus was fully man i.e. human and fully God. He had to be fully human so that He could pay the price for our sins. Secondly He was also fully human in that He got hungry and tired and knew the limitations of being a man. If He was a divine person He would not have shared in our humanity nor have our physical limitations as a human.

The answer is A even though He has another nature.
Christ is true man as well as true God. Now, if He were a complete human “personality” as well as a divine personality, He would be two “persons,” and the person who is really God would not be the same person that is really man: He would not be the God-Man. Therefore, while Christ has the true and full nature of man, while He has a true human body and a true human soul with its faculties of understanding and will, He is NOT a human person. He has the nature of man united substantially with the nature of God, and this is in the unity of the Second Person of the Blessed Trinity, the Son of God. Christ, therefore, has two natures (a divine and human), but he is only one Person, and that the second Person of the Blessed Trinity. The union of the two natures is effected in the Person of the Son of God; this substantial union is called the hypostatic union, a term which comes from the Greek hypostasis, used to signify a Person of the Blessed Trinity; hence the Hypostatic Union is the union of the two natures (of God and man) in the one Person of the Son of God.

Jesus gave Peter the keys to the kingdom, ja4. He gave the Apostles the power to bind and loose. This means that they have His authority, under the guidance of the HS, to change the Church disciplines to meet the needs of any given age.

In the Latin Rite, there was rampant corruption in the clergy in Europe, and one of the ways this was addressed was to appoint priests from those who have given their whole lives in an undivided way to Christ. This was one approach to eliminate illegitimate children, adultery, and other problems facing the European parishes.

It is sad that you cannot recognize or appreciate the authority that Jesus gave to the Apostles to manage the Church, however, this does not change the facts. The fact is that Jesus sent the Apostles with His own authority. He was able to tell one of his followers to sell all that he had, and follow, yet other followers were supported in keeping their property and money. The Latin Rite chose to follow the example of Christ and of Paul in celibacy to bring back purity to the Church. As we all know, this purity still has a long way to go, and the decision to choose for priests those who are undivided in their interests best serves this purpose.

Let me encourage to spend more time studying the Scriptures in context instead of spreading your confusing ideas. What you find is that this passage has nothing to do with determining doctrines but church discipline. Doctrine is involoved here but not determined here.

The Rock.
This is a classic example of your confusion with Scripture. If you had read the passage where Jesus prays for unity you would seen that unity is not based on the “Rock” but on unity-oneness He had with the Father. See John 17:21

In 1 Sam God took away the authority from the wicked people.
In the middle ages God took the authority from the wicked people.
the authority of the Catholic Church has been stripped away and given Methodists, and Baptists and Lutherns and Presbyterians etc.
