Thats it I am switching back! I am tired of having to do good works, follow the Pope etc. I am switching back! This Catholic things is just too hard! 😃
this bring up (if only to me) an interesting point:

i think Protestnats are so into that ā€œProtestant work ethicā€ (as if they invented the value of work  ) they just don’t have time to work on their salvation with fear and trmebling very much (??)…

You know… they are tired from all the work and the worldly stuff they are involved in,… that when it comes to doing something spriitually difficult… well, they just figure… I’m tired… and God (salvation) should not be so HARD… It should just not be *work… *

If I combine the right scriptures together I will be able to combine OSAS, Properity Gospel and the Rapture all in one theology. That is the life for me!

Live like a millionaire, don’t have to worry about my sin and when the times get tough I get zapped out of this world and transported to heaven.

It is amazing the mental gymnastic we do to make God into what we want him to be instead of listening and obeying him.

losing God is not real and that’s what hapens when people sin… So God gives us Purgatory to … well, become like a child again… as he tells us we must…
can you show me that in the Scriptures? I won’t just take the Catholic churches word for it. Sorry.

this doesn’t make a lot of sense…

you say no osas (James) then you say yes to osas… (your opinion)… Two opposing ā€œfactsā€/opinions cannot both be true…
The Scriptures obviously don’t make alot of sense to you.

If Purgatory is not real how does one get to Heaven? If you are a Protestant you must believe in some sort of depravity concept. Obviously nothing unclean can get into heaven. So how do you get in? The answer that God’s Grace is enough is not an answer. It doesn’t tell you how you actually get in. We all agree that God’s grace is enough for us to be saved. How are you purified to get into Heaven. Here is the Protestant dilema when they do not follow scripture and make up feel good ideas. They have to reject scripture and the Catholic Church; but, then they do not have a solution. If one is unclean and one has to be clean to enter heaven how does one get in?
Read the Bible! There’s a start.

guess you’ll find out when you get there… (assuming you do?? ) Jesus said the wy to eternal life is narrow & few find it…
So then, that means purgatory specifically? I believe that your magisterium is wrong on Scripture interpretation, dead wrong.

Those Protestants who believe in sola fide and/or sola scirptura: How do you explain these scriptures:

St. Mark 10:17: [A man asked Jesus:] What must i do to inherit eternal life?" Jesus answered him… ā€œYou know the Commandments…[He lists them]ā€. He… said… ā€œTeacher, all of these i have observed from my youth.ā€ Jesus… said to him, ā€œYou are lacking in one thing. Go, sell what you have, and give to [the] poor and you will have treasure in Heaven; then come, follow Me.ā€

2 Thessalonians 1:7: … Jesus from Heaven with his mighty angels, in blazing fire, infliciting punishment on those who do not acknowldege God and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. These will pay the penalty of eternal ruin, separated from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his power…

I know many Catholics and Protestants, both, who do not obey ALL of what the gospels say… (myself included)

Not trying to be a smart – but… i can’t help but think:

We had all better HOPE with all our hearts that there not only IS a Purgatory but that we make it there.

(Of course, we Catholics know Purgatory exists [St. Matthew 18:23, 1 Cor 3:13, Rev 21:27, etc…])
So you think Protestants preach breaking the commandments is either good or will not impact our spiritual state?

I guess this comes from the minority position of OSAS held by the evangelical community.

This inference is alien to the Protestant faith. If you’re going to toss us under the bus at least know what your talking about? šŸ™‚

Read the Bible! There’s a start.
Reading the Bible does not remove the stain of original sin. How does one get into heaven when one is unclean? Again only someone cleansed can get into heaven and we are still attached to original sin. What happens to cleanse you?

I will also reiterate that the statement that God’s grace is enough is not a response. We all believe that. Tell me exactly how your soul is cleansed to get into heaven?

i totally agree (of course 😃 )…

Mental gymnastics… that is a good term for it…

what else is scary is that they may even believe a lot of what we Catholics here are saying… but they don’t want to change… and/or admit they were wrong…

But you know, the other day there was that reading about how the Wine grower sent out workers to find and invite people to the banquet… but many refused and the master of the vineyard got angry… said to go and invite whomever… (paraphrase 😃 ). then someone came in but was not dressed in the proper wedding garment… he was bound and cast outside…

I wonder if that wedding garment is, in a nutshell, the Church???

I agree with you, I chastise protestant groups for this type of nonsense all the time. However, if I were a Catholic I could sin, go to confession, say ten Hail Mary’s and maybe an Our Father, and I’m good to go right?

A little more effort but still not to cumbersome. The reformed tradition is much more dogmatic than either the RCC or these here today gone tomorrow the world is gonna end in three weeks OSAS types. 😃

So when you use the silliest of protestant sects to paint us with your broad brush you should understand we’re not all the same. Moreover, it would be simple enough to point to the sins within the RCC – but as for me I won’t play that game?

Who said anything about not being baptized? Again, Read Your Bible!

Baptism doesn’t wash sin without faith (baptism of the Spirit); but baptism is still a necessary sacrament and infant baptism is fine. The sin of Adam caused our fall and made us all sinners, totally depraved. However, we are not responsible for Adam’s sin per se. Every man is responsible for his own sins, not for the sins of another.

PROTESTANTS BELIEVE ONLY WHAT THEY CHOOSE TO INTERPRET FOR THEMSELVES, WHICH EXPLAINS WHY THEIR MORTAL TRADITION IS A DIVIDED HOUSE WHERE NO UNITY OF FAITH AND MORALS CAN POSSIBLY EXIST.

I would add that I have never heard of an OSAS preach that breaking the Commandments and being a ā€˜bad Christian’ is a good thing. What they will say is that it will not cost you your eternal Salvation; however, they will add that it will cost a person eternal rewards (ā€˜treasure in Heaven’) and may lead to temporal punishment/chastisement.

Actually I’ve done a little research on OSAS (due to the many conversations about it here) & the doctrine is not so bad (it’s title is probably misleading though). Indeed it is similar to perseverance in that it will say one who continues to walk in a sinful lifestyle was likely not saved and had no sincere faith (acknowledging all the passages that tell us this). Perhaps they should just call it perseverance and stick with the Reformed definition (why reinvent the wheel)?

We’re more united then you think.

Not exactly.

If you choose to sin on Friday, with the idea that ā€œI can go to confession on Saturday, and I’m good to go,ā€ that’s a separate sin called presumption.

You have to have contrition, which means you have to regret sinning. You have to have the intent to ā€œgo and sin no more.ā€ Without those, the sacrament fails.

you can believe what you want… It is what you KNOW that will judge you…

I do not believe the Church’s interpretation of Scripture is wrong…

I KNOW It is…

not a good thing?

keeping the Commandments is NOT optional… it is required to get into Heaven… St. Mark 10:17 (etc, etc)…

They are NOT the 10 Suggestions…

That is certainly true.

And no one can keep them perfectly.

Which is the entire point of why Christ kept them for us.
